Meghan Markle Fashion: When Her Clothes Went Wrong - Duration: 8:51.

Meghan Markle Fashion: When Her Clothes Went Wrong

Meghan Markle is becoming a fashion icon, known for her elegant style choices, which are based on a sort-of casual chic that relies on seemingly effortless elegance.

She's partial to solid, neutral hues in her clothes (and she wears a lot of black.).

That sort of consistency rarely opens itself up to opportunities for major style snafus.

However, as with everyone (although probably less than most), Meghan has had the occasional missteps.

What were her worst fashion choices? We'll give her a break and not delve back into her fashion days before she was more solidly in the post-Harry public eye (although a review of photos shows she's streamlined her look a lot, getting rid of the busy patterns, short hemlines, cleavage, and pastels.).

Before we take a look at some of the choices that didn't go quite right, it's important to remember a few of the frocks that did.

Here's a glorious dark blue dress that Meghan wore to the queen's birthday party:.

Here's a lovely green patterned dress she wore to the Invictus Games reception:.

She gets it more right than wrong.

However, here are the 7 times that Meghan Markle's fashion went wrong.

Shapeless & Sleeveless.

Meghan Markle had a rare misstep when she wore this ill-fitting, rather shapeless dress to the Commonwealth Youth Forum.

It seemed more appropriate for a garden party than a public appearance on behalf of Queen and nation.

It didn't look much better from the back either, and the color didn't flatter.

Meghan sometimes favors the nautical inspired, and it doesn't always work.

According to Town and Country, Meghan wore "a midi dress from Altuzarra, with button details, sky-high black stilettos, and a blazer by Camilla and Marc.".

Too-Long Trousers.

Meghan almost nailed this look (the jacket and purse are great, especially considering she was in Scotland), but the too-long, dragging-the-ground trouser look took casual and messy in the wrong direction.

Some might say: Mend your hem.

Vogue reported that Meghan wore "a check Burberry coat and floor-sweeping Veronica Beard trousers, with a Strathberry cross-body bag punctuating her tartan.".

That Hat.

When people start comparing your hat to a "poop emoji," you know it probably wasn't the best choice.

But give Meghan a break.

In America, hats are rarely a style choice (other than baseball), so she probably just needs time to adapt.

The coat and clutch are perfect, though, and the camel hue is too.

According to Elle, "She chose a camel wide collar wrap coat from Sentaler (which is still available to pre-order), a Chloé Pixie Suede Crossbody Bag, dark brown Stuart Weitzman heeled boots, and, the most fascinating matching brown hat from Philip Treacy.

The Engagement Coat.

Meghan is becoming known for her long coats that cinch at the waist and have large collars.

Sometimes she really pulls that look off.

However, sometimes they just look a bit ill-fitting and drown her slender figure.

The white coat she wore for her engagement announcement with Prince Harry wasn't awful.

But it led to speculation online that she was pregnant, some people thought her shoes looked too big, and we just couldn't help but feel that she… could have done a bit better.

This look would have been perfectly fine for any other occasion, but the engagement pics needed something truly special.

According to Bazaar, the white coat flew off the shelves, selling out within minutes, though.

It was a "white wrap coat by Canadian brand Line The Label," Bazaar reported.

Here's a coat that worked better:.

Maybe skipping the coat for the engagement photos in favor of a Kate wrap dress or Diana style suit would have been a better way to go.

Ripped Jeans, Messy Shirt.

This is actually a nice look, but maybe not for a woman about to marry a prince under the new glare of the world's media.

Casual is good, but ripped jeans, scuffed shoes, and untucked shirt probably took it a notch too far.

The jeans quickly sold out, though.

They are "The Ankle Looker Fray jeans in Love Gun.".

Scarf Suffocation.

Meghan is partial to scarves, and the way she wears them is very modern and usually right on the money.

This one was a bit too much, though.

The blog WhatMeghanWore ID'd the scarf as being from "British retailer, Jigsaw.

It is the brand's 'Sara' style in oatmeal.".

Sail Away.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visit Nechells Wellbeing Centre to join Coach Core apprentices taking part in a training masterclass on March 8, 2018 in Birmingham, England.

This sailor-inspired nautical coat wasn't Meghan's best.

She looks better when her clothes don't drown her petite frame.

The reason Meghan Markle has so few style faux pas, though, is because she generally chooses simple cuts and colors.

She has the courage to forge her own look, and that's what will make her fun to watch as time unfolds.

According to Birmingham Live, Meghan forgot to remove a "temporary tacking stitch" from the back of the jacket, which was from J Crew.

Meghan Markle Style: Her 10 Best Fashion Choices - Duration: 11:40.

Meghan Markle Style: Her 10 Best Fashion Choices

Meghan Markle's style has revolutionized Royal Family fashion.

Her style choices are elegant and non-traditional.

She's known for defying convention in royal appearances: Bare legs, bare shoulders, casual, too-long trousers, black, black, black.

However, she's also  become a style icon, able to move handbags off the shelf simply by carrying one at a public appearance with her soon-to-be husband, Prince Harry.

Now that the Royal Wedding is upon us, let's take a look back at Meghan Markle's style choices since pairing up with a prince.

Think royal blue. Black.

Neutrals. Solids.

Streamlined. Simple jewelry. Casual.

Her choices are a little more subdued since her romance with Prince Harry went public: Think more Audrey or Katharine Hepburn than Dynasty.

Before the wedding, and since she's appeared in public with Prince Harry, here are her 10 best fashion choices, in reverse order:.

Anzac Service: Ever-Present Black.

To be totally honest, this one looks better from the waist up.

The skirt was a bit long, although entirely appropriate for the occasion.

Markle's fashion staple seems to be black.

At least she got the hat right with this one (many remember the brown hat she wore that some equated to a… poop emoji).

She wore a "Philip Treacy fascinator adorned with a beaded dragonfly.

Her suit dress is a custom design courtesy of Emilia Wickstead, paired with matching black heels and a Jimmy Choo 'J Box' clutch with metallic details," according to Fashionista.

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry attend an Anzac Day service at Westminster Abbey on April 25, 2018 in London, England.

Earlier in the day, Meghan donned a wider-brimmed hat and long gray coat.

According to Cosmopolitan, the coast she wore was "a custom design by Brit Matthew Williamson.

Her simple black heels are by Sarah Flint and her tiny black clutch is the Dionysus mini bag in velvet.".

Anzac Day is a tradition honoring Australian and New Zealand service members killed in war.

She looked perfectly proper this time out.

Stephen Lawrence Memorial Service: No Sleeves.

Meghan wore this sleeveless look to the 25th anniversary memorial service celebrating the life and legacy of Stephen Lawrence in London.

Lawrence was stabbed to death in a racial attack.

She wore her hair up in what is becoming a well-known updo and paired the belted dress with beige pumps.

According to Elle, "Markle was dressed in a black belted dress from Hugo Boss paired with nude stilettos and a matching clutch bag.".

Endeavour Fund Awards: Pantsuit.

Meghan often chooses slacks, almost always in black.

The look she chose for the Endeavour Fund Awards was one of her best pantsuit looks.

According to Town and Country, Meghan's suit was by Alexander McQueen.

The black pumps and slim trousers looked elegant in their simplicity.

She's also a fan of the white shirt.

"She paired the polished look with a white bow bodysuit by Tuxe… along with pointed black heels and a Prada clutch," reported Town and Country.

Nottingham Academy: Camel Skirt.

Meghan wore a camel pencil skirt with black turtle neck when she and Prince Harry visited Nottingham Academy.

According to UK Telegraph, she wore a "black, high neck knit" by Austrian brand Wolford and beige skirt that "was bought from the cult label Joseph, priced at £595.

Women's Empowerment Luncheon: Black Sheath.

This was one of Meghan's best black dress looks.

Meghan plays with simple lines.

This dress was by Black Halo, and she also wore Aquazzura pumps, and carried a Gucci clutch, Elle reported.

Belfast: Green With Velvet Pumps.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle leave the Crown Liquor Saloon, a former Victorian gin palace owned by the National Trust, on March 23, 2018 in Belfast, Nothern Ireland.

When she does opt for color, Meghan seems to gravitate toward green.

She set this outfit apart with a casual white top and flash of burnt orange velvet pumps.

She is also partial to long jackets with large collars in neutral tones.

Meghan's style is casual chic.

Underneath the coat, she had paired the green skirt with a casual white top.

According to US Weekly, Markle "wore a beige Mackage coat, a white Victoria Beckham top, a green Greta Constantine skirt and velvet Manolo Blahnik pumps.

Royal Foundation Forum: Blue Dress.

Meghan chose Navy again at the Royal Foundation Forum.

Her dress was by Jason Wu and she wore Aquazzura heels.

Meghan appeared to get on famously with her soon-to-be brother and sister in law.

The Queen's Birthday: Royal Blue.

Meghan switched out her black for deep blue and sleeveless for cape-like sleeves when she attended the Queen's 92nd birthday party at Royal Albert Hall.

Many other members of the Royal Family, including the Queen herself, were in attendance at the event.

The birthday outfit consisted of "navy Stella McCartney cape dress, navy Manolo Blahnik pumps and a Naeem Khan Armoury Zodiac clutch bag," according to Express.

Invictus Games Reception: A Flash of Green.

Markle showed a rare flash of color, choosing a dark green print dress for an Invictus Games reception and covering it with a black blazer.

According to Express, the green dress was by Self Portrait and was priced at £385.

It flattered her, and it was nice to see a pattern to break up the monotony (although classic consistency is her hallmark.).

The See-Through Engagement Dress.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry engagement photo.

Meghan Markle made a statement with her engagement dress.

According to Bazaar, "Markle wore a Ralph & Russo couture gown for the photoshoot, which featured a beaded and embroidered see-through top (over a nude lining) and a frothy dark skirt." The see-through nature of the gown started tongues wagging.

Thank you so much for all of the wonderful comments following the release of Prince Harry and Ms.

Meghan Markles engagement photographs.

The couple are so grateful for the warm and generous messages they have received during such a happy time in their lives.

As a way to say thank you, they have decided to share this candid photograph from the day of their portrait sittings directly with all of you.

A post shared by Kensington Palace (@kensingtonroyal) on Dec 21, 2017 at 6:00am PST.

The dress made an immediate statement that Markle's style would be something to watch.
