well two Republican Senate candidates backed by President Trump winning their
primaries last night Nebraska senator Deb Fischer notching an easy victory and
Pennsylvania congressman Lou Barletta an early and staunch supporter of the
president winning the Republican Senate nomination and now mr. Barletta turning
his attention to trying to unseat longtime Democratic Senator Bob Casey
here's Barletta at his victory party last night so mr. Kane
the president had a victory last night congratulating Lou Barletta this morning
and one of their big agenda items they share is illegal immigration absolutely
and don't forget it's about illegal immigration and people still try to mix
it up I think that these victories demonstrate a couple of things first the
president still has some clout across this country maybe not in some of the
most liberal states I was talking to Stuart Varney about this and there's a
narrow lens of the media that wants people to believe that the president
doesn't have clout when he does secondly it shows that results matter people are
responding to the results and not necessarily the negative narrative so I
think that that's what it points out and then 130 point all of this talk about
doing midterm elections and what traditionally it has been throw all of
that out of the window I don't believe these midterms are going to be judged by
the trends of the midterms from the past Amyx ahead but Leslie it's see when you
look at the way the primary played out congressman Barletta
did not go after necessarily his primary opponent the Republican in the race he
kept his eye on the prize which is the Democrat Bob Casey the senator who's
been there for quite some time now Republicans are banking on maybe taking
back some of these blue seats in red states that Trump won how do you see
that going I think there's going to be an offset
because I think that their dyno house is you can't blow and I honestly I'm a
pessimist and you know my fellow lives get mad at me you just the fat lady
isn't even near the stage right right Democrats have historic me yeah okay she
be called a sexist when you look at what has happened historically and and not
just the okay the party opposite the president in his first year you know he
doesn't he doesn't nearly lose the seats in the house and in the Senate but
Democrats don't show up and really what we're gonna have to see is do the
Millennials show up so many of them you know who are now just registering to
vote the young you know the younger kids do the women show up do the minority
show up do the Democrats show up that's where it's going to come down to but I
do see that what we are seeing is a trend I think the president is very
important in these midterm elections because on the right it's sort of like
hey look you know I like the president I like his policies and on the Left it's
I'm not the president when I on the anti-trump I don't like it when I talk
to candidates all around the country about what they think their chances are
they all think that their fate hinges on independent women it comes back to that
same group in so many different points I mean at least that's their perception
that's what they say and I still think we have no idea what independent women
really do when they go into the booth they surprised us last time I'm an
independent woman myself mostly because I'm oppositional defiant I don't want to
be part of any group I'm gonna make up my mind on every single issue but it's
you know the women like me I think are all individuals have different thoughts
pro or con on all these different and they don't necessarily tell you ahead of
time all right well millions of Americans
tuned into Roseanne after the show was brought back after years off the air and
the main character is a trump supporter but now after some criticism and network
TV executives saying the show is getting away from politics and now Roseanne is
weighing in that's a head a fiery political debate around the
dinner table and ABC's reboot of rose am one of the few popular TV shows to
feature a pro Trump character but now the network may be trying to put the
kibosh on the political humor ABC's entertainment president telling
reporters that he thinks Roseanne will move away from politics next season and
will instead focus more on family not so fast the main stock Roseanne Barr
pushing back tweeting don't worry Roseanne show fans next season will be
even braver funnier timely than this season despite what anyone mistakenly
says Herman Cain Roseanne has been there she's ready to do things on her terms
the entertainment president talks about being more inclusive across all metrics
apparently not the Jimmy Kimmel show do you think Roseanne is going to push back
Roseanne is gonna push back hip-hip hooray for Roseanne now remember ABC is
one of the networks that covered this president his administration negatively
ninety one percent of the time but Roseanne is saying no they're not going
to tell me what to say how much political pushback I can put in it I
applaud her for saying she's not going to be dictated to in terms of what she's
gonna say or how much political content the show is a success it's funny why is
it that some of these networks feel as if they've got to intertwine politics
and entertainment in order to try to influence people leave her alone
so are they are they taking politics out of their programming no I am deeply
suspicious as always I'm a conspiracy theorist and I think that this is all
garbage and they're just draining it up to get people excited about the show
they've done a wonderful job so far so by threatening to take the politics out
of it and then magically putting it back in at the last second they've got all of
us to talk about it and promote it again my hat is off to you ABC well done are
people sick of everything about politics and entertainment I mean every time you
turn on an award show someone is moralizing trying to make some political
point and people just want a little escapism okay I'm taking it totally
different than all of you when I read Roseanne stweet I didn't think she was
talking about ABC I think she was talking about all of you think I'm not
gonna have anything political the show's going to be
you know it's gonna be worse than so much different hang on she's got a lot
of creative power okay the the show was not only a lot of
her writing her idea her name if you look under credits she gets some money
there that other people don't in addition to her role on the show and it
was her idea to have the Yemen Muslim couple next door and I was very
surprised at that and I was very proud of her we follow each other on Twitter
may not agree politically I I don't think it is all like ABC saying oh we're
not gonna have you know less Trump bashing and by the way the ratings was
so great some people would say why fix it it's not really why not get the whole
pie instead of most of the pie out of the ratings to get a larger audience I
think if they're moving on as a plot line it would actually be fine cuz the
show was supposed to be representative of American families and you know not
everybody's family focuses on politics 24 hours a day seven days a week and
it's like a lot of people do have split families right true but they move on to
other things in their life and don't focus solely on politics so it might
actually be an accurate reflection however ABC got rid of lots of Last Man
Standing that show that did very well based on family values they've made that
bad decisions before even one shows are popular all right very good more
outnumbered and just a moment stay right here all right my thanks to Herman Cain
did you have fun are you coming back I'm coming back and I you all have an open
invitation to join me and my crew for lunch does land the country club open
invitations right so your bills gonna be here they won't run out noon Eastern for
now here's Harris
developing news right now the Trump Tower meeting transcripts have been made
public and Donald Trump jr. is speaking out about it let's go outnumbered over
time i'm harris faulkner thousands of pages of documents from the
Senate Judiciary Committee's interviews with Donald Trump jr. and other
participants in that 2016 Trump Tower meeting with Russians were released
today it is the most comprehensive yet look yet into that controversial
get-together Donald Trump jr. said this in a statement I appreciate the
opportunity to have assisted the Judiciary Committee and it's inquiry the
public can now see that for over five hours I answered every question asked
and was candid and forthright with the committee Ellison barber is live for us
in Washington with the news Ellison Harrison his testimony Trump jr. told
the Senate committee that he did not tell his father about the email setting
up that meeting and he doesn't know when the president and his team learned of
the email when it comes to questions about president Trump's involvement in a
July 8th 2017 statement about that controversial meeting Trump jr. seemed
to suggest he was at least somewhat involved through former White House
communications director hope Hicks in the July statement Trump jr. told the
New York Times the meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia vessel Nets kaya was
primarily about Russian adoptions he did not mention the fact that he agreed to
the meeting after a British publicist named Rob Goldstone told him that the
person had information that might hurt Hillary Clinton's campaign the
Washington Post reported that President Trump dictated the statement on Air
Force One the committee asked if that was correct to which Trump jr. replied I
don't know I never spoke to my father about it
he was later asked did the president provide any edits to the statement or
other input Trump jr. said he may have commented through hope Hicks he was then
asked and do you know if his comments provided through hope Hicks were
incorporated into the final statement Trump jr. I believe some may have been
but this was an effort through lots of people mostly counsel the ranking member
of the Senate Judiciary Committee says the public has a right to know about all
of these interviews a committee Democrat says mr. Trump's answers were not good
enough he needs to come back before the committee testify in a person under oath
there is a lot that needs to be explained I have no confidence that the
public has a right to know and the public can go through these two thousand
pages and make up their own mind draw their own conclusions they don't have to
have it deciphered by members of Congress the president's son-in-law
Jared Kushner and former campaign manager Paul Manafort also attended the
June 2016 meeting they declined to be interviewed by the committee in person
but they did submit written statements Harris Wow some news there with that
accusation of lying by Blumenthal toward Don jr. I will talk about that coming up
with my guest thank you very much good to see you Ellison Democrats on the
Senate Judiciary Committee have released a statement saying the June 9th 2016
meeting is one piece of a much larger puzzle and confirms that the Trump
campaign was willing to accept Russia's assistance their efforts to conceal the
meeting and its true purpose are consistent with a large pattern of false
statements about the Trump campaigns relationship with Russia end quote and
overtime welcome now to Republican Congressman Jim Jordan from Ohio member
of the House Judiciary Oversight Committee so I doubt you caught that
Blumenthal accusing Donald jr. Donald Trump jr. of liar that would be a felony
yeah I mean look the Democrats want to make a lot about this this meeting with
no information that no real information ever came out of they never want to talk
about the fact that Glynn Simpson was meeting with that Russian lawyer who was
in that meeting he met with her both before the meeting and after the meeting
in New York that's been reported everyone up to TPS fusion GPS right look
at the guy that the group that was paid for by the Clinton campaign the
Democratic National Committee to put together the dossier who hired
Christopher Steele so look I have not read the transcript it just came out
today I think there's lots of other important information that we need to
get and that's why we've sent a letter to the president today Harris asked him
to give some of those some of those key information that they've repeatedly
denied us from from getting access to can we take a pause on that for just a
second I really want to illuminate what you're talking about now because if
Democrats are saying that Donald Trump jr. and others are lying about this
meeting where does that get us you say that there's information in these
documents you'll get to read those transcripts what are you looking for
well I haven't read them yet so I do want to get a chance to go through them
they just came out this morning those the transcript from from from when when
Donald Trump jr. was interviewed in the Senate so I'll take a look at that but
we haven't seen it yet what I do know is there's all kinds of information that
we've asked the Department of Justice to give us they've repeatedly not given us
that information we want access to that information as a separate and equal
branch of government okay so I have that letter I'm gonna read from it now dear
mr. president so now you're not reaching out through the DOJ it's my
understanding that you just took this up a notch that it just got hotter we write
to request that you exercise your authority as president of the United
States to instruct Attorney General Jeff Sessions to immediately produce all
documents require requested by Congress relating to our investigation of certain
prosecutorial and investigative decisions made by the DOJ these are
Republicans and he is a Republican AG what is going on
well we're tired of unelected people at the Department of Justice repeatedly not
giving us information we're entitled to receive as a separate equal branch of
government and keeping information from us for example why did James Comey not
tell us that the guy he leaked information through to the New York
Times Daniel Richmond was actually an employee a special government employee
at the FBI why did they try to redact and not tell us that Peters struck had a
relationship with one of the FISA Court judges the same federal judge who heard
Mike Flynn's case why was that redacted in the text messages we got from Peter
struck at least the page that they gave us
they redacted that information and why did it have they never told us why jim
bakker general counsel at the FBI why he was demoted and reassigned and then just
two weeks ago why he retired from the FBI all kinds of information they've
tried to keep from us we it's like pulling teeth every time we're we try to
get something that's what's so frustrating not just for us but for the
American people who want answers to important questions so
in the heat of the moment to get that information you take this to the
president no doubt you and the other freedom caucus members I believe mark
Meadows is on that list with you and Rhonda Santos of Florida to get together
somebody has to say in the room can the president do this and the answer is he's
the head of the executive branch this is all about transparency what I mean when
you have things that let's - remember this - when they took the dossier to the
court when they wouldn't got the FISA warrant to spy on Carter page they
didn't tell the court two important pieces of information they didn't tell
the court who paid for that dossier and they didn't tell the court that the
author had been fired by the FBI because Christopher Steele was working they
didn't tell him that relationship had been terminated because Christopher
Steele was leaking information leaking information about his relationship with
the FBI you you and I go to court we have to give the truth the whole truth
the FBI didn't do that and nothing but the truth the FBI didn't do that so this
is the context we find ourselves in not to mention Harris the fact that James
Comey has been fired deputy director Andrew McCabe has been fired and faces
criminal referral Jim Baker chief counsel at the FBI was demoted
reassigned and has now left employment at the FBI lisa page FBI counsel demoted
reassigned left the FBI and Peter struck deputy head of counterintelligence
demoted reassigned that's the context we find ourselves in and we're just saying
as a separate an equal branch of government as people put go on the
ballot every two years and get elected by the American people we have a right
to get information so we can get answers to critical questions the American
people have can I ask you to just what this means for Jeff Sessions because
it's gotten a little politically at now the judgment of Andrew Napolitano is
next to me you may hear him he's chuckling as I asked this question this
is politically a fireball in some ways for him to handle I mean he's had he's
recused himself from the Russian I mean what do you anticipate will
happen with Ag sessions that the president then kind of dinosaur steps
his way in and says yeah I'm gonna declassify make this public and move
this forward well I don't know this is the short answer but I think the
president itíd States just as we say in our letter should tell Attorney General
Jeff Sessions Deputy Attorney General rod Rosenstein give Congress give the
legislative branch the information they need it's in everyone's best interest to
have transparency so we can once and for all figure out exactly what happened
here for example Harrison we'd like to see
this August 2nd memo mr. meadows and I wrote a letter a month ago asking the
Justice Department's let us see this August 2nd memo which was some kind of
change to the scope of the Special Counsel investigation and then just two
weeks ago the federal judge says he wants to see it as well so this is the
kind of thing we need to get access to and the only way to do it now the only
way to do it now is for the President of the United States to tell the Attorney
General to give us the information I want to go real basic before I let you
go people will watch this around the country and they'll wonder ok you get
into a dispute with somebody do you get together have you talked directly with
the Attorney General jeff says yes to find out what's holding up quickly what
did he tell them no I talked we talked with Senator Jeff Sessions last fall
when we were talking about the need for a second Special Counsel to look at all
this I don't like special counsels but I don't know how the FBI investigates
themselves we also have talked with mr. Rosen Stein in person and asked him
specifically about what I just brought up the August 2nd memo and a host of
other things he that wasn't you know I don't know that meeting was all that
productive but we did raise these same kind of issues with mr. Rose design as
well I just asked because people will kind of scratch their heads as well
they're all there together why don't they just talk we did we've tried yeah
we've tried everything here so we have tried everything and that's why that's
why we finally said we're going to go to the to the individual elected by the
American people who heads the executive branch we're going to go to him and say
give us this information so we can get the answers representative Jim Jordan we
appreciate you updating on us on this and then the breaking news of this
letter that you have sent the president will bring you back when we know what
that response is too good to see you thank you thank you take care all right
let's get some legal dissection here from someone who has seen it up close
and watching it unfold Fox News senior judicial
analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano what do you make of that the letter is
extraordinary and I cannot recall a time in the modern era where leaders of the
House of Representatives wrote directly to the president about their frustration
with the Justice Department when the and they're all in the same car trapped when
they're all in the same party when they're all in the same party these
things are usually resolved behind closed doors with a phone call
the president has taken the position in my view very admirably but this is
frustrating that he will not get involved in the management of the DOJ
because he is a subject of a DOJ Department of Justice investigation at
some point he's going to say enough is enough I'm a sub dick here over here I'm
going to manage I understand Jim Jordans frustration and it is this when the
documents do come out from the Department of Justice so much of it is
redacted and when they get the redactions removed they see things that
shouldn't have been redacted but were redacted to save the author of the
document from the embarrassment not to save a national secret not to save the
identity of our intelligence source but to save embarrassment you know we've
been down this memo road and declassification Road so much in the
last few months and the president has weighed in on occasion with things you
know you saw that the different memos inside the House Intelligence so we do
know that he can weigh in and and you're saying legally he he will at some point
potentially at some point he's going to say enough is this letter a tipping
point from these members of the freedom caucus is this enough to get the
president to say you know what do J heads
I want this declassify I don't know if it's enough but it is certainly a march
in that direction the next step and this is the second to last step is to hold
either Attorney General Jeff Sessions or deputy and I'm not suggesting this be
done and Jim Jordan knows that they can do this they have the votes to do it
okay Deputy Attorney General rod Rosenstein in contempt yeah I was a
locum ply with a bona fide legitimate congressional subpoena all right ROS
Jeff a rod Rosen Stein's argument is we can't give you certain things because
we're in the middle of an investigation and if we give them to you and you
reveal them and you're some of your members like to reveal this
stuff it will tip off witnesses and tip off potential defendants I like the way
you put that you didn't even use the word leak when we have an impasse like
that between the executive branch and the legislative branch where do we go to
the judicial branch put this stuff in camera in secret before a judge and let
the judge decide what Congress gets and what the DOJ keeps how before we move on
how complicated is it that Jeff Sessions has recused with the president if he's
held in contempt is that a fireable situation well the president can fire
any member for any politically you know think it would be unfair to target Jeff
Sessions here because he has recused himself it would not be unfair for the
Congress to target rod Rosen's time because with respect to this area
he is effectively the Attorney General Wow a house freedom caucus just turned
up the heat let's talk about the Trump Tower meeting real quickly Donald Jr
Donald Trump jr. coming out today saying hey at least everybody can see all the
questions I was asked so on and so forth what do you make of the transcripts and
what's out there I think the transcripts are equivocal
I'm smiling because I read the Democratic version of any who would
think it was two different transcripts but it's the same to the Democrats you
just played a clip Ellison Barber played the clip of Senator Richard Blumenthal
wires accusing him of committing a felony which is lying to the Congress I
don't believe it was under oath but it is still a crime to lie to Congress in a
formal interrogation setting whether you're under oath what
is it to the GOP to the GOP we know that the Russian so-called Russian adoption
lawyer was a Russian agent and that she met with these people intending to bring
them into her orbit we don't know if she succeeded that's what Bob mowers a lot
of line legal situation for Donald Trump tuning the crime if there is one is not
the receipt of assistance from the Russians it's the agreement to receive
assistance that's what Muller is looking for I
don't know if that comes out in the 2500 pages that we saw today but I also don't
know what else Muller has and it goes back to Jim Jordans Porsche then to get
that scope memo how wide can Muller go and what's he looking at he wants that
pie I haven't seen it but I'm sure it's very wide gives him a broad a broad
brush by the way thanks for joining me live from New York when I was in Israel
it was a hoot all right is the summit off the threat from North Korea when it
comes to next month's highly anticipated sit-down between our president and their
dictator is North Korea merely posturing or is this a serious hurdle now the
president has a message for Kim jong-un a short time ago he gave it as the White
House says it is ready for whatever happens stay close the president's the
toughest negotiator around he's prepared to go through this process his team is
prepared to go through this process and this is not something that is out of the
ordinary in these types of operations
you
