Today I am going to introduce to you Makayla and her brand

You are the first person to make a plus size clothing brand in Hong Kong

when did you launch your brand?

It was in 2014, I started this brand

so now it has almost been 3 years

but before you start

did you all of a sudden want to have your own brand?

did you think "oh I think I want to make my own clothes" just like that?

Actually I have always wanted to make my own brand since I was little

Just that I didn't know what product I would be making

Also, when I first started working

I felt really bored and too chill all the time

Everyday, day in day out, I just go to work

I felt like life was pretty meaningless

Maybe because lack of work experience or that my ability was limited

my job was not very challenging

Also I felt like I haven't really tried anything new in life

I don't want to spend the rest of my life being like this

so I thought, maybe I can provide some resources to the plus size girls in Hong Kong

I felt that it was really difficult getting clothes here as a plus size girl

so maybe there are other people like me, who can't find clothes either

that's why I took the risk and open a plus size clothing store here

to provide more choices for the plus size girls in Hong Kong

But how did you start? Like, what was your first step to making this happen?

First step was, I had to think of the fashion styles first

Then I have to think about how to develop the market

to see if plus size clothing is really needed in Hong Kong

and that this market really exists

'cause it has always been just my thought that I need plus size clothing

but does it mean there are others like me out there?

are there others who also needed to buy clothes and couldn't get them

so yeah, then I started preparing for my market entry

then I just dive in

At first I was only using Facebook

and then slowly slowly I have gain some views and traction

but there were only views and no real sell

It has been going on like this for a few months

To be honest, I felt quite defeated

and I thought to myself, maybe I think too much

but then I persist and keep posting everyday

then one day I started to have sales and new customers

and I have been doing this ever since

That's really cool. Do you remember your first expereince with a customer?

I was very emotional!

I was so happy finally someone can see the clothes in real life and willing to try them on!

Because I understand, it was hard to be only an online shop, people would want to try the clothes on

especially with plus size girls. Also if you can't see the clothes in real life

you don't know how the fabric feels. Then it is a new shop and a new brand

there were many hidden problems that I did't understand

therefore when I finally got my first customer, I was really happy

Yeah, it's true that once you have the first customer, you will have the 2nd, the 3rd, they will come

yes, yes

So I feel that having the time to wait is really important

and you also have to persist

You have to believe in what you do, in order to do it

What do you think, in terms of the styles of plus size girls in Hong Kong?

I feel that in general, the plus size girls here are looking for styles that are flattering for their body

also more comfortable clothes

They are usually looking for casual styles

and also work clothes

But I can see that you are starting to make more stylish clothes

Yes, because some customers start to look for clothing that are on trend

for example, cold shoulder tops, they also want to try now

so it's like this one you are wearing, right

Yeah, they start to want to try more styles

so nowadays, I started to make trendy pieces

so yeah, some are on trend for going out

some smart casual for going to work

I feel that in general, most of the girls from Hong Kong are more conservative and shy, when it comes to styles

Do they tend to pick plain colour clothes or even darker colour clothes?

umm, yeah, in general, they will pick the plain colour clothings

and colour wise, darker shades

But then, actually, some won't mind and will pick lighter colours too

perhaps because I have many light colour clothes here available

As of now, are most of your customers from Hong Kong?

Yes, most of them are from Hong Kong

the majority is Hong Kong People

I guess because all my channels are local, my shop is in Hong Kong

and my site is also Hong Kong based

Do you sometimes feel that your customers are keen to try on some styles

but not ready to take the leap?

What do you say to encourage them to try?

Yes, actually, this scenario happens a lot. Many times the customers come up

and they see many pretty styles they like

but maybe they think "this is pretty but I dare not to wear"

I usually will tell them, "Oh, don't be scared, just try them on!"

"It doesn't matter if you like it, you are not obliged to buy"

If you don't try, you will never know if the style is suitable for you

I always tell them, don't be afraid to try. Sometimes I feel like Iam pushing them to try things on (lol)

Actually after I persuade them, they will be willing to try and sometimes

once they tried them on, they will say

"oh wow, I can't believe I can also wear this style"

"I can carry this sort of styles"

At that moment, I can really see the customers are really happy that

they found something they like

Which styles are the most popular in your shop?

The most popular styles are mostly one piece dresses

Maybe because it is still summer time

it's too hot to do too much styling

Actually, I am the same

It's hard to wear layers when it's still so hot, it's better to do it in winter

so it's usually one piece, which is really convenient as you just need to put it on

But then again, it really matters how it feels when you put the clothes on

So what about yourself? When did you start your fashion journey?

Ever since I started working.

Actually it was really hard for me to buy any clothes when I was young

It's hard to find the styles as nothing much was available

You really have to go into shops to look through stuff in order to find something

Maybe as I grow up there were more to choose from

that's when I started trying to wear different things

In the beginning, I dislike wearing skirts, I didn't want to show my legs

I felt shy and embarassed

I also felt that I don't look good in skirts

But slowly slowly, my friends encourage me and said you should try it, just give it a try!

How do you know if you never try?

But back then I felt like "You are not me, you don't understand"

But at the end, I listen to them and try things on

then I realise, actually it's ok, skirts or pants, they are similar to me

actually not so bad! So I started trying more stuff, if It doesn't fit, I just leave it.

I thought It's a bit of a waste but there is no other way

so if something is not my styles I will just have to put it aside

but eventually, I accept more and more styles, so they didn't go into waste

so you have started buying more styles to try

and you have become brave over the years, right?

yeah, as I try more, I will follow the styles I like and get them

So you were telling me that you want to make more stylish pieces in the future

But as I see, the styles in your collection now is still more smart casual

so what do you want to do for your brand in the future?

I myself, slowly slowly, I

would like to make more cool and stylish pieces

Casual styles are really good for going to work during the week

there is no time to put on any styles then

so you can really just wear something more fancy during the weekend

but when you are on holiday or got some special occasions

sometimes you really want to wear something more stylish stuff

so what is cool and stylish to you?

mmm It's hard to say, for me, I do love following the trend

and I always want to try to learn those styles

Do you have any particular favorite blogger or celebrities style that you like?

Personally, I like the European and American trends and styles

Usually, I just go on ig and keep scrolling throught them

I will be like, oh it's so pretty!!!

But I wouldn't know what

but yeah, you know what you like that are stylish

Actually stylish this word is very hard to define, the spectrum is really wide

What do you think about the relationship between plus size fashion and body positivity?

I feel that...

actually it is a pretty deep topic

This question is ... I feel I need to go home and think about it

But I feel that whatever you wear should be something you feel comfortable about

it should be something you like, that's the most important

Yes, I personally feel that

you can build up your own confidence

For example, if you are shy and usually wear conservative clothes

But then you learn to be brave and try more different styles

and then you will be braver

then you would want to play with clothes and styles

accept and expand your boundaries on different things

it will increase your confidence

yeah, I feel that willing to take that leap is really important

therefore I always tell my customers, they should give it a try

You will never know unless you try

7 Underwear Mistakes That Are BAD For Your Health - Duration: 5:51.

I bet you clicked on this video curious as hell to know how your underwear

choices are affecting you. And I'm not gonna clickbait you, I'm not gonna let

you down. Today I'm gonna go over 7 common mistakes most guys make with

their underwear, that's affecting them negativity. One of the most common mistakes

a lot of guys make is wearing overly tight underwear. Forget the painful

pinching and the uncomfortable readjusting you have to do through the

day, just to give your blue ball some air. Overly tight underwear can lead to

serious chafing and irritation, your underwear should be snug through the

waist and thigh. If it's a quality one like from our sponsor Tani, it should

also have extra room in the crotch area for maximum support and comfort. The

second mistake tons of guys do is using "performance underwear." While the

underwear might feel great against the skin, these technical or performance

undergarments usually use synthetic fabrics which don't breathe as well as

well, it's a nightmare. The fourth mistake most men make with their underwear is

not spending enough on their underwear. See unlike women, in our heads and makes

sense. Why would I spend a lot of money in a garment that nobody's gonna see? I'd

rather keep it out here and then spend a lot more on clothing that people will

actually see on me. For most guys that six for $20 deal at Walmart it seems

like an amazing deal, but trust me you're the one getting the short end of the

stick. They use cheaper materials that are rough against the skin, they have

exposed seams that dig into your skin as well as show through your clothes. Even

worse material that doesn't fit properly, that rides up through the day and offers

no support. On the other hand just spending a little bit more, like on a

luxury brand like as in Tani, you're getting some of the best fabrics

in the world. You get all-day comfort and superior attention to detail to both fit

for support and aesthetics for longevity and style.

Now don't let that luxury term scare you, you know me, I'm gonna hook you guys up.

I want you to try just how good a good pair of quality underwear is as opposed

to buying something cheap that you would buy at Walmart, and you tell me if

there's no difference. And since I don't want you to spend a lot,

worry about trapping heat and moisture in here. These are super breathable and

comfortable and soft against your skin, which is going to eliminate any issues

with chafing, irritation or stinky moisture building up. If you guys want to

ever tried. The fifth mistake most guys are doing with their underwear is the

way they're washing their delicates. See the area down there the skin is usually

more sensitive than the skin and the rest of your body. So washing your

underwear with heavy detergents that are packed with perfumes, fabric softeners,

laundry sheets that are packed with chemicals, can lead to a bit of itchiness

and down in the nether regions. According to

the American Academy of Dermatology, their recommendation is to usually wash

these delicates with a detergent that's hyper allergenic. This is gonna avoid

those harsh chemicals and any itchiness or burning down in that area. Number six

sadly something almost all men are notoriously known for ,is rewiring old

underwear. This by far has to be the most gross mistake on the list but sadly some

guys still do it. I read that on average a used dirty pair of underwear contains

from 1/10 to one gram of feces. When you rewear that dirty pair that heat and

moisture is basically multiplying that bacteria and fungus buildup. That's

disgusting. And finally number seven the last mistake most men make with their

underwear, is going commando. See this just overall might just be a bad idea, I

still can't comprehend what might lead guys to wanting to let their boys bounce

around freely all day, that's uncomfortable. But the issue comes in

when you wear harsh fabrics, like let's say denim. that rubbing against harsh

fabrics and cause serious irritations, even sore's, and even worse rashes that

are going to be painful during the healing process. So yourself a favor and

What do you feel is appreciation versus appropriation?

Like you come to America and like you want to wear a kimono because it's fashion but like you don't necessarily understand the history behind it.

And you're just kind of wearing it because it's there. I feel like in a sense it might not be an attack towards the culture, but in a way it's appropriation

because you aren't fully aware of like the history behind that specific dress.

So do you think that orientalism has become a greater problem or do you think that it's just been the same or that it's getting better?

I think in a sense, I don't want to say it's getting better, I feel like people are more aware of it.

Which is a good thing, because I feel like it is a major issue and like yeah we have the opportunity, there's more resources now to build and make it a positive thing and try to like fix it..

But people kind of avoid that.
