I'm going to give you some basic information necessary for filing your return.

The CDTFA requires you to file a return and pay any taxes or fees you may owe.

Whether you file monthly, quarterly, or annually, you must file timely,

accurately, and pay the due date.

It's your responsibility to file and pay on time.

If you don't, you may be liable for penalties and interest on tax due for each filing period.

For most businesses, we offer an online filing system.

It's free, convenient, secure and easy to use because the calculations are done for you

For accounts that are not yet eligible for online filing, we will mail you your return.

You can have your accountant or tax preparer file your return for you.

We just need your approval to enable them to act on your behalf.

From our website, simply print out a copy of form CDTFA-91 B, choose the appropriate

permissions you are allowing your tax preparer, and mail it to us.

To prepare your return, gather your bookkeeping records.

Make sure you have items like your ledgers, invoices, receipts, bank statements, etc.

You will also need your CDTFA User ID and password.

If you don't have one, you will need to register for one on our website.

Registration for online filing is free.

When you're ready to begin, log in with your User ID and Password and follow the instructions

to file your return.

Once you have started the process, you can stop at any time and come back to it later.

If you have any questions along the way, simply click on the help icon to open our help page.

Once you've entered your information, your amount due is automatically calculated and

you will be able to review your entries.

When filing your sales and use tax return, you may need to make additional entries such

as allocations for district taxes and entries for claimed deductions, in addition to reporting

total gross sales.

After reviewing your entries and filing your return, you can pay using one of our convenient

payment options available on our website.

Once you have filed and received your confirmation number, you should print your return for your records.

Remember to keep your records, including your ledgers, invoices, receipts, bank statements etc.,

for at least four years.
