[Music] alright guys so we are going on this

epic photo shoot this is the first photo shoot for amethyst clothing online store

then we have these amazing models who is the mastermind behind all of it

I'm gonna start running out of

sunlight so we're gonna go and we will vlog long

away so we had to change our gameplan up a little bit there was major traffic

going out south oh there's a cop up there gotta slow down but yeah there was

a major traffic going down south so we decided instead of going to Eureka and

losing all of our sunlight we are going to go out to this amazing place that

Taylor knows about in Saratoga Springs so that's what we're doing I want you

guys to meet all the models though so Taylor's gonna point you back at the

models and I want them to all tell us something about themselves whether it's

what they're up to what they do for a living whether they're into whether it's

snowboarding fashion any of it so yes I'm

from Provo Utah and in two I'm really into anything outdoors like rock

climbing camping hiking anything like that

hi I'm Cassie I am from Sandy Utah exciting I like

yoga and I like to drop my booty to his sick beat I don't I don't have anything

about you do I know you're cool I'm Katie I grew up and lived in Utah

I mean I think it just thing about me is like I think that I'm a really good

driver I just rear-ended some well the other day I feel like waiting to hear

back to be sad it was supposed to be like

honey to be in the intersection during a green light

I was like you can't just stop in the middle of the road the sucky part is

this is like always your fault if you ready a career in the month as always

your fault we almost did that on the freeway just now because there's people

are all slamming on their brakes so

we're just kind of road tripping even though this is a much shorter road trip

than Eureka is so considered a road trip if you guys have any questions for us

we are bundled up big-time right now cuz it's so cold you guys if you live

anywhere but Utah and know that Utah gets extremely cold by September like we

are freezing it feels like it's about to snow so we've got these awesome places

I'm pretty sure there's a dinosaur inside of that because I hear it like

breathing really deep you guys probably can't hear it but it's scary trust me

sorry I tried going by does everyone not look amazing or what

I mean check this out this sweater most promised sweater on earth gas

station in Greece and then there's me

and I'm just wearing like target clothes but no big deal

alright Ronin you're gonna mama to college okay I got to turn this camera

off cuz I got this camera I've got a lot of shooting to do I'm making the promo

Ritu one cake there you go yes perfect I love the look back go for

open while we're out here we're not far from it but I must be like really

paranoid that someone's gonna break into it cuz I keep thinking we need to press

shut the doors we've got the tailgate and the doors open right now with

clothes hanging okay so I can't shut it very easily but hopefully it's okay

we'll see but anyway here are the models just shooting getting shot

sound of that getting shot though by camera you bundle up like oh this is so

fun but it's so cold yes there you go and then look off to

your left and kind of like you just spotted a gazelle oh you're like oh

there's a gazelle over there oh my gosh potential boyfriend and then let's have

you yeah I want to do it again though what's up Katie get in there all three

of you guys just kind of stand there there we go shoes Taylor you can do your

thing direct all you want I'm just kind of yeah but we're gonna do it again

now we can do it with all three get a dance now there you go yep just

totally like into what you're doing like this is this is straight its straight

right oh that son likes killing it okay that was so perfect even just you guys

shifting over with that sunlight looks so good okay whenever you guys are ready

say go and look back yes Hannah oh that's so good it is kind of random

quick scent whenever you're ready action oh my gosh

okay look at the camera Katie yes perfect just like that yes Cassie look

at the camera really quick to see your killer smolder yeah Maddy let's see your

smolder okay yes perfect yes okay Katie was that your

smolder do you have another one yeah you're like the work at face oh okay yes

okay there we go all right perfect I'm gonna get you from kind of the

down-low angle yeah I do that again whatever it was that you did it was

perfect hair toss is perfect yes yes that hand

stuff is great they do a spin for me yes okay is the car still there okay you're

cool I got this hair whip it's totally cool okay cars coming okay yeah yeah and

just kind of move with it so look right into the camera yes just like that let

that skirt just kind of flow perfect and then do a little bit of a turn

that's so good okay keep going do another turn like that because I was a

little Wiggly yes no it was me I step back it's my bad okay there we go

horrific okay and come back and this time come all the way up to the camera

that was a perfect case it's smile at it yeah yes those good though those ready

action yes those clouds behind you look amazing

okay there you go and kind of take two steps closer towards the camera yeah

like that like that yes and look right at the camera and kind of give it a

smile yes yes the giggle was perfect and do can you do a twirl for me

yes such a good twirl just like that look right at the camera big eyes yes

perfect and then I'm gonna zoom out a little bit and run it

okay do some of that stuff again Ronin come over here look I got something for

you you're not even paying attention to the camera until the last minute you're

gonna notice it and you look right into it

smolder look so Ready Set action yeah that's troll right there yes so cute

look right at it yeah do it one more time one more time this time ago kind of

straight line and you don't have to do the twirl I don't know how all that will

work out okay ready go there's clouds

[Music] oh yeah this is his trolls thing it's

got one blanket go cuddle go get some cuddles

thank you yes actually do you want to start the card and I think we're good

let me get those patches on your left shoulder really gonna film them look

down at him tinker with them like I'm gonna eat that ice cream one yes do that

again that was so cool Taylor you see one more time your hair

is kind of locking sorry that was okay guys that concludes our trip we are

finishing up here it is freezing we are gonna head back home it is so cold right

now seriously I'm gonna roll down the window and show you guys how cold all

these beautiful people are it's very really cool

okay time to head out get warm get home to change go to bed so we're back we

made it home it was a success everything turned out amazing

Katharine Polk: Embracing Fashion Diversity - Duration: 4:39.

(upbeat music)

- Growing up in Malibu, California,

Katharine Polk always thought she

would ride horses professionally.

Instead, her father urged her to go

into a more practical direction, art school.

Upon graduating from California's

Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising,

Polk moved to New York City to become an assistant

Couture Designer at the mega fashion house,

Badgley Mischka.

She then spent a few years styling celebrities

before in 2012, starting her own label, Houghton.

So named for Katharine Houghton Hepburn.

- It's timeless, but it's modern.

It is sexy without being revealing.

It's comfortable.

- And it's comfortable for more than just

those who can fit into a size zero.

Polk is part of the fashion industries

collective move to embrace more realistic body types.

- I've made dresses for super models, and

I've made dresses for size 20.

(upbeat music)

Everybody needs to be served and accommodated.

- But this commitment to inclusivity

is more than just good business.

For Polk it's personal.

In 2016 she penned an article for Harper's Bazaar

sharing her decade long struggle with an eating disorder.

She says her bold choice to come out

was fairly straightforward.

- If I wasn't able to speak about what I went through

it would feel a little fake for me.

I would be abdicating for something without

being honest about it.

- And in this age of the private brand,

Polk's choice to blur the line between

her private and professional lives was strategic,

like many of her choices thus far.

Houghton made its New York debut in 2012.

Despite the all ivory color palette,

Polk decided against the obvious move

of showing at Bridal Fashion Week.

Instead, she opted for Ready to Wear Week,

where her collection stood out, and captured

the critics' imaginations.

- The clothes would have never changed.

It was purely just a matter of timing of

being shown in February versus April,

which is stupid, if you think about it.

But...

- But it made a difference.

- It made a difference, and they discovered it

as a cool ready to wear collection that

everyone could get married in.

- But typically, I mean both things happen, right?

People do wear this as

both bridal - Absolutely.

- and non bridal.

- Absolutely, and that was always the concept,

and my idea of the brand.

Typically, unless you're lucky, you pick one look,

and that look says a lot about you.

It's a lot of pressure to kind of say like,

what one outfit is gonna represent me.

It's an honor to be part of that day, and have a girl

pick and say like, this is my look,

and this dress represents me.

- And this is who I am. - Yeah.

- For Katharine Polk, staying ahead in an industry

where good ideas spread fast, requires constant vigilance.

Have you seen your stuff ripped off?

- Yes.

- They say imitation is the highest form of flattery.

(laughs)

it's also something that's most likely to anger you greatly.

- It is. I mean we find it daily, but like,

I mean you just kinda have to take the attitude

like, we just have to do better.

I know that my patterns are better, our construction is

better, and our customer will come to us

for the real thing.

- Right, the original version.

- I just have to keep staying, you know,

five steps ahead, and create the next trend,

or the next better concept, and the next better design.

- In truth, clothes are as much about how you feel as

how you look.

And Polk wants you to feel hot.

- I want someone to put on a garment and

feel sexy in it.

A garment just isn't sexy.

It's more of a way of being, and a way of feeling,

and more of a spirit.

- A spirit that Katharine Polk is chasing with

every bit of leather and lace that she can find.
