This year we have started a new program a mentor and mentee
program here at Franklin.
And my mentee this year I actually had her as a sixth
and seventh grader and she is now an eighth grader.
I've learned so much more about her home life being
her mentor and just having that time just to debrief
on her day, what's going on at home, how can I help
her academically and I think she's had more of a
positive outlook on coming to school.
The last couple years, she had a rough start
and this year she is excelling in her classes. She's made
more positive relationships with friends and she's more
happy when I see her in the hallway.
So I believe the mentor/mentees program
is beneficial because it shows the students that us as teachers
are real people that we have lives outside the school and
we care about their lives outside of the school.
We don't see them just as a student we see them as a person.
Just having that one on one conversation and dialogue
with her about her life is so important.
