so i was wondering

do you guys know how long ive been in japan?

the answer it

3 years

and ive grown a lot since ive come to japan

not just mentally and personality wise

but also in my fashion...

and this is because, when i first got to japan

i was super into japanese kawaii culture and fashion

and i especially liked... kids clothes

and not just kids clothes

but also gyaru fashion

so put those two things together...

and you get my fashion when i first got here

when i look at these pictures...

omg...

i guess i really stood out

but why is-

what?

and i used to be a lot more annoying too

im sure i got so many looks from people around me...

what was i thinking?

now my fashion is a bit flashy but...

(my current daily look)

but when you compare it to back then...

i guess i dont stick out at all

(my everyday look back then)

but for the sake of youtube

im going to do it once more

so, we have childrens clothes

lets recreate my 2014 self!

so i have no makeup. so prepare yourself

hope you can handle it

so the only problem

i dont have extensions like in the pictures

so my hair will be kinda different but

but lets try anyway

so first we have foundation

so i probably just splotted it on with my hands

no brush or anything

and also

i didnt really give a fuck about the foundation looking good

but i put a shit ton on

when i first got here

i noticed how pretty japanese girls skin was

and you can see i have zits now

but unlike foreigners with bumpy skin

its so pretty and smooth

so on my mission to become the same

i looked for foundation with the most coverage

like this

all over my face

yep so

my foundation that i've caked on

and of course

no brush or anything

this powder. here i go

yeah. this looks about right

and... i still have acne

lately ive gotten acne..

for the first time in my life

(probably something to do with the fact that I've been drinking frappucinos daily)

holy crap my face is white

of course i had never heard the word "contour"

i didnt know how to do that

recently i do it everyday but

im going to skip it and move on to...

so when you look at this picture

you can see that i've shaved here. and im sorry but

i'm not shaving my brows on camera like i did before, because ive been trying to grow them out

since then and they never grow

so im not shaving them but

it looks like before i had them shaved here

and for some odd reason i cannot explain i made them super thick right here

and i barely had anything here

so that's what imma do now

this is where it started

wow my brows are so thick

i got teased for them a lot when i was a kid

hey you. you have a unibrow.

i remember it like it was yesterday

so traumatic

and so i went to beauty school and finally learned

how to draw on my own eyebrows

there's too much here... i didnt have that much brow before

my eyebrows from before

i guess they're not horrible compared to my middle school days where i just shaved them all off

that was a bit more extreme

now for eyeshadow that i will do with my hands

i wanted a gyaru look so i used gold

oh nice

i always used sparkles

cos i wanted to be gyaru

well i guess when japanese girls do this makeup

its super cute

i really caked it on..

i say that now, but a couple months ago i was trying really hard to be kylie jenner

and i did really heavy makeup everyday

that was also bad

ohhh wait so maybe this makeup isn't bad on foreigners its just bad on me

THAT's what it is!

now i know

sorry we dont have enough sparkles yet

so if i can

i want my whole face to sparkle

and why do you ask?

i think you know the answer

i wanted to be GYARU

oh! eyeliner before eyelashes!

ugh i dont wanna do lashes

takes so long

whatever. the lashes will cover it anyway

everybodys face shape is so different so

even if i do the same line as everybody else is doing

it doesn't look good if it doesn't suit MY face

i have a german friend who does this kind of makeup

and she's super cute

buuuut when i do it, it's another story...

and so

okay but like... so like

i put on so many

like 3 pairs

ughhh how annoying

i dont wannaaaaa

wow how fast

so quick!

im getting closer to the old me

just now it was so weird

but the second i put on my first lash

i got this feeling out of nowhere like

"I want to be gyaru again!"

it was only for a second but really strong

it's like some cyber trance music started playing in my head out of nowhere

and my cheeks were super pink

where the hell was i putting that color. girlllll

yep like this

and now lip color

pink

no lip line or anything

i just wanted it to be pink and it was ok

its so pink

so right before coming to japan

i dyed and cut my hair

and i just left it like that for 6 months

i had no idea how to go to the salon here

so i just let it be. and the roots were so bad.

i was just afraid to go to the salon

because i didnt speak much japanese

for real

and last. some acessories

i put handmade stuff on a lot

wait i still have this!?

aw i used to always wear this

this one is pretty cute though

i think i can still use these

super cute

so at a lot of raves/festivals and parties in america, some people make these and wear them

but you know.. for me... i came to japan

and it was a party EVERYDAY

Welcome to Fashion as Design

a course brought to you by The Museum of Modern Art.

I am Paola Antonelli.

I'm a senior curator in Architecture and Design at MoMA.

I'm Michelle Millar Fisher.

I'm a curatorial assistant at MoMA.

Stephanie Kramer, research assistant at MoMA.

And we're all brought here together by a great project

which is the exhibition

"Items: Is Fashion Modern?"

It's a very ambitious project because it brings together 111 items of clothing and

accessories that had a strong influence on the world in the past 100 years.

We believe strongly that fashion is a form of design, we believe strongly that no true

design history can be told without discussing also garments and everything that they encompass

from aesthetics and technology to economy, sociology, anthropology, labor practices,

the whole world.

That's what we believe that design is, a way to understand more deeply and with more awareness

the world in which we live.

So we have these two realms we have design, we have fashion, we have the larger world

of the Museum of Modern Art that has traditionally the fine arts and architecture.

And with this course we would like to try and position them together.

When we go through this course, we're going to see pairings of humble masterpieces like

the white t-shirt, like perhaps the Panama hat with things that are perhaps more entrenched

in a designer led mode of fashion that isn't necessarily humble, but when we take them

together, we really see that they're no different from one another in terms of providing lenses

through which we can really uncover some of these larger issues that both fashion and

design allow us to explore.

We've played a game during the exhibition preparation where, as we've been walking through

the city, we've looked at people who are walking by us and thought what are they wearing that's

on our checklist of 111.

If you look around you on a daily basis, you see someone wearing a turtleneck, a white

t-shirt, a biker jacket, a pair of jeans, etc. and you realize that the subjects that

you'll see in this course, the items that you'll see in this course really are from

the very esoteric to the very quotidien things that really do affect us on a day-to-day basis.

It really is about not only playing the game and looking what other people are wearing.

But rather playing the game, which is a serious game, and look at what you are wearing and

understand in delight and also in like, really sense of responsibility, understand what you're

putting on yourself.

This is not about punishing people or about taking the fun out of things, quite the opposite.

We believe that by knowing what is contained in every single garment is going to be just

a fuller life presented in front of you and also a more... how can I say, a more aware

stance as a serious citizen to be able to push back, accept and celebrate good deeds.

And instead, also push the industry towards a more ethical stance when necessary.

We hope you enjoy the material in the weeks to come, and we look forward to hearing what

Kaia Gerber is your run of the mill teenager. Like any other girl, she eats burgers in bed, acts silly and has difficulty walking in heels.

She just does all this between runway shows. While the last few weeks have been a roller coaster of events for the daughter of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, the young teen is taking it all in stride.

After turning 16, taking (and passing) her drivers test and then walking in her first New York Fashion week show, Kaia is in good spirits and ready for more.

  The up and coming model took Vogue and director Bardia Zeinali behind the scenes of her first New York Fashion Week and even gave them a peek into her new life as a high fashion model.

The footage shows Kaia as who really she is underneath all the makeup and off the runway—that is, ridiculously funny and down to earth.

In between photo shoots and fashion shows, the teen talked about walking in heels—she says, its so hard—and how she would be bummed out if she hadnt passed her drivers test.

She even got to show off her funny side while posing for cameras, sarcastically musing over the noise of the city below, New York is not the most quiet city is it?.

This model is hardly fazed by the noise and attention as it isnt her first rodeo—or should we say runway? Kaia has been the face of campaigns for the likes of Marc Jacobs and even Hudson Jeans.  Most recently, the teen made her hotly anticipated debut at NYFW with Raf Simons Calvin Klein fashion show before strutting her stuff in other shows like Fenty by Rihanna The fame clearly hasnt changed her though, as she still stops to pet dogs on the street and waves hello to passersby.

After her time in New York, the highly chased after model jetted off to England for Londons fashion week, before heading to the fashion capital of Milan. We cant wait to see more of Kaia!.

clothing. what is your favourite garment you have created and why? I generally

create the garments based on the clients requirement. personally I like easy and

comfortable clothing. recently I have created a wraparound skirt which is

double-sided and it has pockets on it. I like this design because it is very

easy to wear. it is double-sided. the best part is, it has functional pockets.

that's my recent favourite. coming to the second question, this one is from Bhavana.

can you give us simple steps to make DIY knee-length dresses? I will have to

make a video for this. I am going to do it soon for you. keep checking my videos

regularly. next question is from Manoj, he says he need formal wear tips and he wants

to understand the color combinations. there is one similar question from

Madhukeshav. he says, is there any tips or a chart for guys about dressing. he also

wants to know about the color combinations. manoj and Madhukeshav, you

can wear a light blue shirt with a mustard trouser. team it up with a black

belt and black dress shoes. that will be a classic color combination for a formal

wear. if you are wearing a tie with this color combination, try navy blue and

dark red combination. I will insert an example picture for you to look at. the

the question is from Rajesh he says he has the trouble with the t-shirts due to

his body weight needs some suggestions to fit correctly shirts to answer this

question I have some tips always pick correct fitted garments not tight fitted

not loosely fitted I fit your comments will love accentuate those curves and

loose fitted ones make you look more bigger always try it garment when you're

buying it you can pick the attacker color stripes stripes are in trend and

we make the styles this will love you for visually thinner and a cleaner look

my clothes which fit the largest part of your body go for little longer length

the t-shirts so they won't write up next time when you're shopping keep these

tips in mind and try the government before you buy it I will definitely make

some fashion tip videos for men too so guys please keep checking my channel

next question is from reimu she says she has bigger things she needs some

suggestions to pick correct garments for her body type when you are picking

western clothes go for white like the pants and combine it with the simple

fitted top a length skirts will definitely cover your not so thin to her

thighs and it will accentuate your waist taking the viewers eye away from your

eyes and pick the ones which are row just below these when it comes to jeans

skinny fit jeans or not for you go for her straight fit ones as you have a

bigger thighs you need to choose the fitting of jeans very carefully but if

you still want to wear the skinny fitted jeans go for our top which is a

flowy asymmetric hem that will give the attention to the top that the bottom

high-waisted comments will not look good on you so say no to those vertical

stripes and now colors will look great on your body coming to Indian clothes

all there of Indian clothes generally covered the earth iPad's

the best combination would be a long nice printed to tie with the loose that

bottom that will look great on you next one is from Prachi she says is there any
