As you can see, here we have a border control problem.
This four foot high two by four inch mesh fence is not working for mom and her goats.
They keep jumping over it and trampling it down. It's a big headache.
Hi, my name is Benjamin.
We're going to fix this by building a five foot six poly wire electric fence.
It's going to have six strands running across it.
Because we like to keep it cheap, we're going to use PCV pipes for most of the posts.
We're definitely going to need the younger two for this job. Let's go get them.
We're using 3/4 inch PVC piping for the posts.
Because we are using poly wire, we drilled smaller holes. If you use poly rope, the holes would need to be bigger.
The great thing about PVC piping is it's non conductive.
So, I don't have to go out and spend a lot of money on insulators.

We cut a wedge into the bottom of all the PVC pipes.
That way they'll cut in the ground when we pound them.
Basically, whenever we're pounding them, I'm go to come down with the driver, and he's going to do a half turn.
This will help keep the post straight.
Also, he's convenient because we're using the top of his head for a height marker.
I know it's high, but mom's goats like to jump.
Let's get started.
All right, we used these metal posts for the corners because they're nice and sturdy.
We tied a string to both corner posts as a guide to help us keep the fence straight.
So, for the gate posts we're using one and a half inch PVC piping.
We are doing a roundabout method. So we put our poly wire in this hole and threaded it out through this one.
It creates tension.
That's why we were using a bigger PVC pipe for the gate posts. The other posts are being used as spacers.
This is going to keep it nice and tight

It's my job to build a gate.
Let's me show you what we're doing.
We're connecting four pipes with four elbows to make a square.
But before we cement it, we're going to prime it to clean it.
Let me show you how.
Let that dry for a few minutes.
It's been a couple of minutes. Now, it's time to cement.
That's it
On the corners, we use metal posts. We added these yellow insulators to attach the wire.
I have to admit. It was a challenge to thread all the wire through the fence.
We solved the problem by stationing a person on each corner, and feed the wire down the line.
That helped.
Let me show you our gate.
We use a rope hinge system.
We made these holes bigger so that we can feed the wires down the pipe and retrieve it.
The electricity comes to the fence. We connected it to the gate.
It electrifies the entire gate and comes down through here.
Then, it's reconnected with the fencing wire.
All right, we mounted our energizer to a piece of scrap plywood and leaned it against the house near a power outlet.
The thing about energizers is they're all a he little different. So, make sure to follow the instructions that comes with yours.
In order for energizers to work properly, you have to grounded it. You want galvanized wire and rods.
Hey, I think this fences is going to work out pretty well.
