g'day guys today I'm in the ghost town of Bodie California it peaked at around
10,000 residents during the gold rush of the 1800s but today it's just a town
left in urban decay there is a number of haunting and ghost stories throughout
the little town though so I'm going to take you out and give you a tour of all
those Bodie is said to be cursed anyone who takes an item from Bodie will be
plagued with bad luck until that item is returned many objects such as nails and
rocks have been sent with letters back to Bodie from past visitors claiming to
have been cursed these letters can be found on display in bodie's Museum
so here I am standing in front of the John S. Cain residence which is one of
Bodie's largest houses owned by one of the wealthiest and well renowned guys in
the town John S. Cain had a Chinese maid who he was rumored to have
an affair with and unfortunately from that it led to her being outcast
by the townspeople and her taking her own life
John's former maid is said to haunt the property to this day and has been seen
staring out the windows at passers by
another of bodie's supposedly haunted residences is the Gregory House the
ghost of an unknown older female is commonly seen throughout the home
usually working on a knitting project one of Bodie's most well known ghost
stories dates back to the 1800s one night a local man named ed shot and
killed his wife in a drunken fit of rage since Bodie didn't have an established
legal system three vigilantes decided to take justice into their own hands
Ed was abducted bound and left in a creek to die shortly after Ed's death
each of these three vigilantes were visited by Ed's ghost and all soon died
of mysterious causes
what is an abandoned mining town without haunted mines for safety reasons the
mines are off-limits today but reports from rangers of disembodied voices are
numerous there is also the legend of a white mule which haunts the mines after
having its back broken whilst on the job
so currently in front of the Mendocini place this is said to be haunted
by the family that used to live in here it's not uncommon for people to report
sound of children's laughter as they still play in the front yard and then
within the property disembodied voices have been reported
whilst at Bodie I spoke to the park ranger who lives in the Mendocini
house he confirmed that smells of ghostly Italian cooking linger in the
home and that spirits of mischievous children are present making themselves
known by tugging on his sheets as he goes to sleep at night
bodie boasts a large cemetery that is not without its own ghosts the spirit of
Evelyn Myers haunts the area around her angel shaped tombstone she died when
just three years old after a freak accident saw her struck in the head with
a pickaxe she is known for playing and communicating with visitors young
children within the cemetery
