The 37-year-old gave royal fans a special glimpse of her Givenchy veil and proudly told of the moment she asked designers to incorporate the California poppy into it n a touching tribute to her home
In the ITV documentary Queen of the World, which aired this evening, she said: "We wanted to have the spirit of inclusivity in our wedding
" Meghan said: "I stuck in a couple of flowers that were important to me personally, there is a California poppy in there which has nothing to do with the Commonwealth but is where I'm from
" The Duchess of Sussex said no flower repeated itself on her train famously carried by her two pageboys at her May 19 royal wedding
She said: "The thinking behind it for me was some sort of inclusion of the 53 Commonwealth countries which was key and i'd originally said to Clare Waight Keller the designer 'how can we incorporate that, will it be the state flower or the country flower of each place?' and it was her idea to do wild flowers which I think ended up being a really beautiful way to embody the feel of it
" The delicate 16ft garment also featured wintersweet, which grows in the garden at Nottingham Cottage, where Meghan lives with Prince Harry, and the California poppy, which grows in her home state
Meghan said: "It was important for me, especially now being a part of the Royal Family, to have all 53 of the Commonwealth countries incorporated, and I knew that it would be a fun surprise as well for my now husband, who didn't know, and he was really over the moon to find out that I would make this choice for our day together
"I think the other members of the family had a similar reaction, so, yeah, it was good news all around, I think
I hope people liked it as much as I liked helping to create it." Meghan said she had "two or three" meetings with Ms Waight Keller so they could pour over sketches and discuss ideas to make the flowers come to life
The Duchess of Sussex said candidly: "After those, I trusted her implicitly, and I didn't really see it until the morning of
" Meghan also revealed she hid another personal memento in the veil, her "something blue"
The Duchess of Sussex said: "Somewhere in here there's a piece of blue fabric that's stitched inside — it was my something blue
"It's fabric from the dress that I wore on our first date." Meghan's veil makers washed their hands every ten minutes in a bid to keep the garment pristine for her big day
