U.S.Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called on allies to 'pick a side' on Venezuela, and described its President Nicolas Maduro as part of an 'illegitimate mafia state' responsible for the country's economic collapse

Pompeo was addressing the 15-member U.N.Security Council on Saturday, which met at his request after Washington and a string of countries in the region recognized Venezuela's opposition leader Juan Guaido as head of state

Pompeo urging the U.Ncouncil to back Guaido and called for free and fair elections as soon as possible, adding that Maduro must step down

'Now it is time for every other nation to pick a side.No more delays, no more games

Either you stand with the forces of freedom, or you're in league with Maduro and his mayhem,' Pompeo told the council

With mounting protests over Venezuela's crisis in which more than two million have fled shortages of basic food and medicine, Pompeo asked all nations to 'support Venezuela's democratic transition and interim President Guaidoa's role in it,' he said

Russia tried to stop the meeting but it was voted down with nine of the 15 members agreeing to go forward

Moscow opposes the U.S.efforts and has accused Washington of backing a coup attempt, placing Venezuela at the heart of a growing geopolitical duel

'Venezuela does not represent a threat to peace and security,' Russia's U.N.Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia told the Security Council

'If anything does represent a threat to peace, it is the shameless and aggressive action of the United States and their allies aimed at the ouster of the legitimately elected President of Venezuela,' he said

Russia, China, South Africa and Equatorial Guinea blocked a U.S.push for a U.N.Security Council statement expressing full support for Venezuela's National Assembly as the country's 'only democratically elected institution

' Ahead of the public meeting, the United States circulated its draft Security Council statement, which said: 'As conditions in the Republic of Venezuela continue to deteriorate, the Security Council expresses its full support for the National Assembly as Venezuela's only democratically elected institution

' The same four countries also voted against holding the Security Council meeting

Nine countries voted in favor of the meeting, while Ivory Coast and Indonesia abstained

Pompeo denounced Russia and China, saying that they were motivated not by principle but raw financial interest

'China and Russia are propping up a failed regime in the hopes of recovering billions of dollars in ill-considered investments and assistance made over the years,' he said

France and Spain give Maduro eight days to call elections  France and Spain have said Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has just eight days to announce 'transparent and democratic elections' or they will recognise rival Juan Guaido as the legitimate leader

French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted Saturday in French and Spanish that 'the Venezuelan people should be able to freely decide their future

' He said France is working with European partners to encourage a 'political process' that would solve Venezuela's leadership crisis

Macron tweeted Saturday in French and Spanish that 'the Venezuelan people should be able to freely decide their future' and called for elections Spain's prime minister made an almost identical announcement earlier today

Pedro Sanchez said that unless Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro called for new elections within eight days Spain will recognize Guaido as the legitimate president of the South American country

'Spain is giving the government of Nicolas Maduro eight days to convoke free, transparent and democratic elections, and if that does not occur, Spain will recognize Juan Guaido as the president charged with carrying out said elections,' Sanchez said

Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez delivers a speech at the Moncloa Palace in Madrid, saying that unless Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro called for new elections within eight days Spain will recognize Guaido as the legitimate president He added that as leader of Venezuela's National Assembly, Guaido is 'the person who should lead the transition to free elections

' The other 27 members of the European Union should back Spain's position, the Prime Minister said

The German government have also previously called for elections.Government spokesman Steffen Seibert tweeted: 'The Venezuelan people are courageously committed to a free future for the country

'This requires a political process that leads to free and credible elections. The democratically elected National Assembly has a special role to play here

' Guaido quickly welcomed the support from the European powerhouses.'There continues to be progress in the European Union for the recognition and full support of our legitimate and constitutional struggle,' he tweeted

But other members of the 28-nation bloc such as Austria, Greece and Portugal are more reluctant

Greece's ruling left-wing party Syriza has publicly backed Maduro, with party secretary Panos Skourletis voicing 'full support and solidarity' to what to he called 'the legal president

Petition For Alien Relative - Can U.S. Citizens File Form I-130 For Nephew And Niece? - Duration: 2:55.

QUESTION

"Can I immigrate my brother's minor children?

I just became a U.S. citizen, and I want to know if I could file papers for his son and daughter?

He does not have immigration papers. I'm afraid his children could get picked-up and deported."

ANSWER

Unfortunately, the answer is NO.

I'm not clear why your brother does not have legal immigration status.

If he was a green card holder at one time, but lost his permanent residency papers through deportation, that's one situation.

However, to answer your question, I am going to assume a different set of circumstances.

I will suppose your brother has never been a legal resident and he has never been deported.

In this case, you could petition on behalf of your brother.

The process is slow and it will be a long wait before he earns a green card.

Once your brother obtains permanent resident status, he may be able to file immigration papers for his own children.

Actually, your question about who you can immigrate is the most common question I receive as a green card attorney.

So Who Can You Immigrate?

When you are a U.S. citizen, you are entitled to immigrate all of your closest relatives.

This includes your spouse, parents, children, brothers and sisters.

You are not allowed to immigrate nephews, nieces, cousins, uncles, or aunts.

If you were only a lawful permanent resident, you would have fewer options.

Before closing, I'd like to point out two other potential options regarding your nephew and niece.

First, what about their mother?

What is her immigration status?

If she has legal status, perhaps she can petition them.

Second, have you adopted them?

If you have not, but you have an active relationship with them, you may want to look into adoption rules.

World War 3: Russia warns US: 'Don't invade Venezuela' after 'all options' threat - DAILY NEWS - Duration: 5:24.

World War 3: Russia warns US: 'Don't invade Venezuela' after 'all options' threat

RUSSIA has warned the United States against taking military action in Venezuela after

Donald Trump insisted "all options are on the table" when it came to replacing Nicolas

Maduro with Juan Guaido as the South American country's President.

But US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has upped the stakes by telling world leaders

they needed to "pick a side" – and launching a veiled attack on China and Russia for backing

Mr Maduro's continued leadership.

Mr Trump, who has backed Mr Guaido's claim, has called President Nicolas Maduro's government

"illegitimate" and, when asked if he was considering deploying US soldiers, told reporters

on Wednesday: "We're not considering anything, but all options are on the table."

Russia's ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia described the declaration

as "dangerous".

Speaking on the sidelines of a UN Security Council meeting called by the US to discuss

the issue, he added: "If it evolves into something more military that is even more regretful.

"We think it should be avoided at any cost."

The ongoing turmoil in the country saw thousands of protesters calling for Mr Maduro's resignation

tear-gassed by police during as demonstrations in the capital of Caracas turned ugly.

Mr Maduro succeeded former President Hugo Chavez in 2013, and was re-elected in controversial

circumstances last year.

The issue has split the international community.

Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Paraguay

and Peru back Mr Trump's stance, while Britain, Germany, France and Spain all said on Saturday

they would likewise recognise Mr Guaido if Mr Maduro failed to call fresh elections in

eight days.

However, Mr Maduro enjoys the continued support of China and Russia, which the Guardian reported

yesterday has dispatched private security contractors to protect him.

Mr Pompeo told the UN Mr Maduro's "socialist experiment" had caused the economy to collapse

and reduced ordinary Venezuelans to rooting through dumpsters for food.

He said: "Now it is time for every other nation to pick a side.

"Either you stand with the forces of freedom, or you're in league with Maduro and his mayhem,"

Pompeo told the council.

"We call on all members of the Security Council to support Venezuela's democratic transition

and interim President Guaido's role.

In a specific reference to "our Russian and Chinese colleagues", he added: "It's

not a surprise that those who rule without democracy in their own countries are trying

to prop up Maduro while he is in dire straits."

After Washington's declaration of support for Guaido, Maduro cut off diplomatic relations

with the United States on Wednesday and gave U.S. diplomats 72 hours to leave the country.

Although some diplomats left on Friday, Guaido said the US embassy was still working and

that embassy officials had been to visit him.

Mr Trump raised the prospect of military action in the summer, saying: "We have many options

for Venezuela, including a possible military option, if necessary."

Widespread reports suggested Mr Trump may have been talked out oft the idea by US Secretary

of State Rex Tillerson, national security adviser HR McMaster and defence secretary

James Mattis.

The idea was floated again in October when Marshall Billingslea, assistant secretary

for terrorist financing at the Treasury Department said Mr Maduro's regime posed "a clear

threat to regional stability and security" which represented a "direct challenge"

to the United States.

Afterwards, Mark Fitzpatrick, then-director of the Americas branch of the International

Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS), told Express.co.uk: "The US foreign policy establishment

laughed at Trump's talk about military action against Venezuela.

"It is inconceivable as long as a sober-minded statesman like Jim Mattis is Secretary of

Defense.

"Even John Bolton would oppose the idea as a distraction from the real issues facing

America.

"Venezuela is a side-show.

It is not a direct challenge to the US.

"But with the huffing and puffing of hardliners like Billingslea, one cannot put military

action of some kind out of the question after Mattis leaves, which may come this winter."

Mr Fitzpatrick's words proved uncannily prophetic, with Mr Mattis tendering his resignation

date in December after Mr Trump announced plans to pull troops out of Syria, with Mr

Trump later saying he had "essentially fired him."

China's Zotye Naming US Dealers Next Week, We Wonder If They'll Bring Their Clones Too - Duration: 2:08.

America's trade war with China isn't stopping Zotye from preparing to sell its vehicles in the United States as the company will reveal its first dealerships at the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) show on January 30th

Zotye's announcement was short on details, but the company noted these dealerships are expected to become the first to sell Chinese models in the United States under the Chinese automaker's brand name

While we expect additional information will be released next week, the company has previously said its first US-spec model will be an SUV that is slated to go on sale in 2020

Zotye hasn't said much beyond that, but has previously stated "engineering, development and homologation work [is] currently underway

" Despite being tight-lipped on specifics, Zotye USA's Facebook page is full of images showing the T700 crossover which is essentially a Chinese clone of the first-generation Range Rover Evoque

However, HAAH Automotive Holdings – which is handling US distribution rights – has previously said Zotye is "developing numerous new models" and "one of these new models will be the first product launched in the USA [during the] fourth quarter of 2020

" Zotye isn't widely known outside of China, but it often gets called out for its less than creative styling

Besides the T700, Zotye's SR9 has been criticized as a Porsche Macan knock-off.The company's T600 also resembles the first-generation Volkswagen Tiguan, while the Traum Meet3 echoes the Mercedes GLC

It will be interesting to see if the company's first US model will follow a similar philosophy, but the automakers are pretty protective of the US market

Government shutdown cost US economy at least $6BILLION, more than what Trump wanted to build wall - Duration: 4:50.

The recently ended partial government shutdown is said to have cost the US economy at least $6billion — more than the $5

7billion border wall figure that President Trump shut down the government over.Financial rating agency Standard & Poor released a report Friday in which it analyzed the cost to the US economy of the partial government shutdown, which finally ended Friday after Trump signed a bill to reopen the federal government for the next three weeks

The shutdown had clocked in as the longest government shutdown in the country's history, lasting 35 days, during which many federal workers were either furloughed without pay or told to work without receiving paychecks during that time

In the report, the S&P said that the overall cost to the US economy — which is worth about $19trillion — would be 'likely worse than what we had previously expected,' ABC News reported

An earlier S&P estimate had stated that the partial government shutdown would have only a 'modest impact' on the economy and that it would only lose about $1

2billion of its GDP for each week the shutdown lasted. In Friday's report, however, the S&P stated that the upgraded damage to the US economy was due to the fact that 'weekly costs likely widened beyond the average weekly cost of $1

2billion.' 'Here, both direct costs, on lost productivity from furloughed government workers, and indirect costs, from lost economic activity to outside businesses because of the shutdown, amplified with each week the government remained closed,' the S&P said, according to the statement obtained by ABC News

Prior to knowing that the shutdown would last five weeks, the S&P said it 'had expected that other indirect costs were likely just delayed, with businesses recouping some of those losses once the government reopens its doors

' However, 'with a five-week closure, we suspect that more of those economic activities indirectly tied to the government may have been outright canceled,' the agency said

The bill Trump signed Friday reopened the government until February 15, meaning that about 800,000 government workers would be able to get their paychecks while Trump continued to demand his border wall money

Should there continue to be no agreement over Trump's border wall money during the 21 day period, Trump tweeted Friday that 'if no deal is done, it's off to the races!' In its report, the S&P indicated that economic growth could be stymied should there be another shutdown

'Although this funding battle has ended, the next one starts in a few weeks, which may reduce growth expectations if businesses and financial markets begin to expect that Congress and the president will repeat the experience again and again,' the S&P said in its statement

If not border wall money deal is reached, it's possible that Trump could initiate another government shutdown or even try to declare a national emergency, which would allow him to take money out of military construction funds to build part of the wall

Should Trump attempt to go the national emergency route, the decision could lead to a constitutional fight over his power to do so, according to CNBC News

US NEWS | Ann Coulter says Trump is biggest wimp ever to serve as President Daily Mail Online - Duration: 5:06.

US NEWS | Ann Coulter says Trump is biggest wimp ever to serve as President Daily Mail Online

Conservative columnist Ann Coulter has called President the biggest wimp in the history of the office following his concession on border funding to re open the government.

Coulter, an hawk and early Trump supporter, reacted with swift fury to Trumps announcement on Friday that he would reopen the government for three weeks without any commitment from Congress to fund a southern border wall.

Good news for George Herbert Walker Bush: As of today, he is no longer the biggest wimp ever to serve as President of the United States, Coulter wrote on .

Bush, who died in November aged 94, was widely ridiculed in office for going back on his read my lips vow not to raise taxes.

Seeming bitter about some in Trumps inner circle, Coulter went on: Maybe the solution to the border crisis is not deporting 22 million illegals but one Jared Kushner.

Ann Coulter, seen on Real Time on Friday night, lashed out at Trump for making a deal to reopen the government without securing any funding for a border wall

Couler declared that Trump backing down from his wall demand to end the shutdown made him an even bigger wimp than George HW Bush, who famously reneged on a tax promise

Many have speculated that Coulters December  calling Trump gutless, which appeared to prompt him to unfollow her on Twitter, helped spur the President into undertaking the shutdown standoff in the first place.

Yeah, crazy that I expect the President to keep the promise that he made every day for 18 months, Coulter scoffed during a Friday appearance on HBOs Real Time with Bill Maher.

Coulter went on to downplay her influence on the President, saying that she is merely voicing the concerns of Trumps base.

I promise you, the country would be run much better if I had a veto over what Donald Trump was doing, she told Maher. Its the base, thats what happened.

Coulter, addressing Mahers liberal audience, made the case that mass immigration is a policy supported by big business to suppress workers wages.

You know who wants it? The Koch brothers, said Coulter, referring to the billionaire political activist family that has indeed supported laxer immigration policy. Youre being played, to have everyone act like this is some sort of racist thing.

Yeah, crazy that I expect the President to keep the promise that he made every day for 18 months, Coulter scoffed during a Friday appearance on HBOs Real Time with Bill Maher

Among the hardest core of Trumps base, many had expected the President to push forward with declaring a national emergency in order to build the wall, a proposal he had floated for weeks.

Thursday deal to reopen government came as a shock to this group and a potential blow to Trumps reelection chances.

Taking to Twitter, Trump defended his move and insisted that an emergency delcaration was still on the table if Democrats in Congress do not cut a deal to fund the border wall before the three week deadline.

I wish people would read or listen to my words on the Border Wall. This was in no way a concession. It was taking care of millions of people who were getting badly hurt by the Shutdown with the understanding that in 21 days, if no deal is done, its off to the races! Trump wrote on Friday night.

He continued to battle base backlash on Saturday morning, writing: 21 days goes very quickly. Negotiations with Democrats will start immediately. Will not be easy to make a deal, both parties very dug in. The case for National Security has been greatly enhanced by what has been happening at the Border through dialogue. We will build the Wall!

In her interview with Maher on Friday, Coulter said that all of her concerns about Trump would be forgiven if the wall gets built.

Just keep your promises and Im right back in your camp, she said.

Otherwise, speculation has circulated that Coulter might mount a primary campaign against Trump.

Asked about the possibility by Maher, Coulter joked: Im against women working, so I cant.

US NEWS | John Podesta It might now be Roger Stones time in the barrel The Washington Post

John Podesta, the chair of Hillary Clintons 2016 presidential campaign, served as counselor to President Barack Obama and chief of staff to President Bill Clinton.

Despite my Italian roots, vengeance doesnt run deep in my veins. But I admit I smiled when Roger Stones .

To give some context: On Oct. 7, 2016, WikiLeaks from my personal inbox that had been hacked by Russian intelligence operatives. A few days earlier, Stone — a longtime Republican operative and close confidant of then candidate Donald Trump — had that the organization would reveal damaging information about the Clinton campaign. And weeks before that, hed : Trust me, it will soon [be] Podestas time in the barrel.

Stones connection with and boasting about WikiLeaks during the campaign has always been fishy. But thanks to special counsel Robert S. Mueller IIIs investigation, the truth is finally coming out. Fridays indictment that a senior campaign official was directed and by whom? to contact Stone about the WikiLeaks releases even after it was that they were a Russian hacking operation.

Revenge aside, the accusations against Stone are serious. He faces a seven count indictment: five counts of false statements, one count of obstruction and one count of witness tampering.

The details of the indictment are devastating and, characteristically of Stone, quite colorful. According to the filing, a confederate labeled Person 2 as radio host Randy Credico to dissuade him from testifying truthfully about WikiLeaks before the House Intelligence Committee: You are a rat. A stoolie. You backstab your friends run your mouth my lawyers are dying Rip you to shreds and I am so ready. Lets get it on. Prepare to die [expletive]. Stone instructs Person 2 to do a Frank Pentangeli — a character from The Godfather Part II who famously lies to congressional investigators — and, my nostalgic favorite, Stone paraphrases a quote from President Richard M. Nixon during the Watergate coverup: Stonewall it. Plead the Fifth. Anything to save the plan.

To anyone keeping abreast of the unfolding events in the Mueller investigation, this level of sleaze is not at all surprising. The walls have been closing in for some time. As a key member of Trumps inner circle, Stone and his course of conduct during the campaign and after have exemplified a culture of cronyism and corruption that ignored all ethical standards and rewarded fabrication over the hard truth of reality.

It was all obvious during the campaign and from President Trumps first full day in office, when he sent out the hapless Sean Spicer to about the size of his inauguration audience, that the president would establish an administration in which lying and intimidation were the default way of doing business. When it comes to lying, Trump is in a league of his own. The Post reported this week that he has in his first two years in office. Sadly, his culture of deceit was embraced by or forced upon the people around him and his apologists on Capitol Hill.

in the Mueller probe include former national security adviser Michael Flynn, ; foreign policy campaign adviser George Papadopoulos, ; lawyer Alex van der Zwaan, ; deputy campaign chairman Rick Gates, ; former Trump lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen, ; former campaign manager Paul Manafort, guilty ; and, if the facts of his indictment are true, now Stone. Stone denied the allegations Friday.

The remaining West Wing staff and the presidents family must be looking over their shoulders, wondering whether, in adopting the Trump style, they have traded a fancy West Wing office for a cell.

Stones always favored wide pinstripes, but I wonder whether prison garb will be up to standards.

Venezuela's top military representative to the US slammed as 'traitor' after abandoning Maduro - Duration: 7:07.

Venezuela's top military representative to the US has been slammed as a traitor in his homeland after he declared that he now recognises opposition leader Juan Guaido as the president, abandoning Nicolas Maduro's government

Colonel Jose Luis Silva's defection is significant as Maduro, who has accused Guaido of a coup, retains the support of the country's security forces

The latest development comes as European powers signaled they were ready to follow the United States in recognizing National Assembly President Guaido as Venezuela's rightful leader

Guaidó declared himself 'acting president' on Wednesday, gaining the backing of several countries with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo launching a fiery speech at the United Nations on Saturday, slamming Venezuela's dictatorial regime under Maduro as an 'illegitimate mafia state'

Col Silva's intervention is a blow to Maduro, with the armed forces seen as crucial in the current struggle

Venezuela's defence ministry said Col Silva was guilty of treason, and tweeted photos of him with the word 'traitor' plastered over them

Guaido recently asked the army  to 'put themselves on the side of the Venezuelan people'

In a video filmed at the Venezuelan embassy in Washington, Col Silva said: 'The armed forces have a fundamental role in the restoration of the democracy in our country

Please, brothers, do not attack our people.' He also urged his 'brothers in the armed forces of the nation to recognise President Juan Guaido as the only legitimate president'

'We welcome him and everyone who with honesty want to follow the constitution and the will of the Venezuelan people,' he said on social media after attending a small assembly in Caracas to discuss the opposition's next moves

Garrett Marquis, a spokesman for US National Security Council, encouraged others to follow Silva's lead 'to protect constitutional order, not to sustain dictators and repress its own people

' Venezuela's top commanders have pledged loyalty to Maduro's government in the days since Guaido declared himself interim leader on grounds that Maduro's re-election last year was fraudulent - an allegation supported by the US, the European Union and many Latin American nations

But support for Maduro's rule is weaker among the military's rank and file, whose households are suffering from widespread food shortages and hyperinflation like their civilian counterparts

Last week, a small National Guard unit stole a stockpile of weapons in what it said was an attempt to oust Maduro

The uprising was quelled and 25 guardsmen arrested. The standoff has plunged troubled Venezuela into a new chapter of political turmoil that rights groups say has already left more than two dozen dead as thousands take to the street demanding Maduro step down

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told the U.N.Security Council during a meeting on Saturday to 'pick a side' on Venezuela and urged countries to financially disconnect from Maduro's government

'We're here to urge all nations to support the democratic aspirations of Venezuelan people as they try to free themselves from former President Maduro's illegitimate mafia state,' Pompeo said in his address

Venezuela also defused a potential showdown with the United States, suspending a demand that US diplomats leave the country

Maduro had given U.S.diplomats three days to leave the country, but the Trump administration said it wouldn't obey, arguing that Maduro is no longer Venezuela's legitimate president

That set the stage for a showdown at the hilltop U.S.Embassy compound Saturday night, when the deadline was to expire

But as the sun set on Venezuela's capital, the Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying Maduro's government was suspending the expulsion to provide a 30-day window for negotiating with U

S.officials about setting up a 'U.S.interests office' in Venezuela and a similar Venezuelan office in the United States

The State Department did not confirm the Venezuelan government's account, reiterating only that its priority remains the safety of its personnel and that it has no plans to close the embassy

Earlier on Saturday, Pompeo told the U.N.Security Council: 'Let me be 100 percent clear - President Trump and I fully expect that our diplomats will continue to receive protections provided under the Vienna Convention

Do not test the United States on our resolve to protect our people.'
