It is amazing when you think about the coincidence that our Sun is almost 400

times larger in diameter than our moon and it's also 400 times further away.

This gives an almost perfect fit for a total solar eclipse. But is there any

other planet whose moons also perfectly fit over Sun, or we are just the lucky ones.

According to a study based on 141 moons whose sizes and orbits are known, it

is founded that about 32 moons can hide sun's disk completely when seen from their planet's

surface. Many of these moons are extreme. Pluto's

Charon, which looms about two hundred times larger then Sun in Pluto's sky. Next

is Neptune's Titrion, which is about 27 times larger than Sun in Neptune's sky.

Other wooping big moons include Neptune's Dispina ,which is about 70

times larger and the Uranus's Arial which is about 15 times larger.

Jupiter's Galilean moon Callisto can also appear one point three times larger than

Sun when low in Jovian sky. The only moons that seem to be capable of a

near perfect fit like our moon, are Saturn's moons - Epimethius

Prometheus and Pandora. Each of these has irregular shapes. So a total solar eclipse

by any one of them is not likely to show Sun's corona all its glory. Neither

they did will show the beautiful array of prominences nor the diamond ring

effect as we often behold from Earth. Many other modes

in our solar system would always appear smaller then the sun's disk. Although, the size of

Neptune's Nereid is still poorly known, when near the low point of

its highly elongated orbit it might cover up to 80% of sun's diameter.

Mars's Phobos is wide enough to span 69% of Sun's diameter when Mars is

at its aphelion. But it will stay for less than 10 seconds as this tiny moon glide by.

So, yes we're the lucky one.

Astro-QA #5 : Why is Pluto not a planet? How many planets are there in our solar system? - Duration: 2:51.

when many of us grew up there were 9 planets in our solar system. It was like some

fixed point in our brain. But in 2006, some news article came and we learnt that

Pluto is not a planet. So what happened to Pluto? And how many

planets are there in our solar system?

There are total eight planets in our solar system - Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars

Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. The first four inner solar system planets

that is Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars fall under category of terrestrial

planets. Jupiter and Saturn are gas giants. They mostly composed of hydrogen and

helium. Uranus and Neptune are known as ice-giants.

They mostly contain elements heavier than hydrogen and helium. Pluto was

classified as one of the solar system planets when it was first discovered by

Clyde Thombaugh in 1930. But then in 2005 Mike Brown discovered Eris and icy

object thought to be almost of the same size as Pluto. So the number of planets

should increase. But some astronomers advocated it to include Ceres in the

asteroid belt and Charon a moon of Pluto into the list of planets because they

are also almost of the same size. So in 2006, International Astronomical Union

mate in Prague and they made it tighter definition of planet. According to this

new definition a planet is a celestial body that follows three criteria. One :

it orbits around Sun. Two : It has sufficient mass for self gravity to overcome the

rigid body forces so that is assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium or a nearly round

step. Three : it has cleared the neighborhood around its orbit. As Pluto is a part of

Kuiper belt object therefore there are many other objects around its orbit.

Hence it has not mate the third criterion and it is no longer consider

as a planet. Instead it is classified as a dwarf

planet. There are many other dwarf players like Ceres Haumea Makemake Eris

etc. it is now considered as one of the largest known members of the Kuiper belt.

How many miles can you ACTUALLY travel when your fuel warning light comes on? - Duration: 3:53.

How many miles can you ACTUALLY travel when your fuel warning light comes on?

Every driver has felt the dread when the fuel needle hits empty and the warning light glows on the dashboard.  Ideally, you should never let your car hit empty before getting it refuelled, but sometimes it is unavoidable.  Cars don't immediately shut down as soon as you hit zero as there is usually some fuel left in in the tank as a reserve, for this very eventuality.  But, how much further can your car travel when it hits empty?

Of course, there is no way to give a definitive answer on how many miles you can continue on for  This is because of the amount of variables that affect the fuel economy. Your driving style, average speed, road surface, temperature, make and model of your car, engine size among others drastically impact how thirsty or frugal the car is. .

However, WKYC 3 consumer investigator Danielle Serino put a 2017 Toyota to the test to see how far it could go when the car hit empty and managed 43 miles after the warning light came on.

The reporter also had some advice for drivers wanting to try and find out how far their car could go after it hits empty.  She said: "If you want to find out how far your car can run on empty, check your owners manual to for the exact volume of your fuel tank.

"Then the next time the needle show empty, fill it up.  "Subtract the number of gallons it took to fill up your tank from the volume in the manual and you'll known how much further you can go when the needle hits empty." Similarly, research conducted in 2016 by Your Mechanic revealed data about a number of USA 2015 cars and how they performed when the needle hit zero.

While this may not be transferable to your car, it does reveal a certain pattern and can be a good gauge.

For example, economy sedans, hatchbacks and smaller cars achieve around 30 miles while larger SUVs can reach 90-plus after the warning light comes on.

com also released some data about some of the top selling cars in the UK in 2016 purportedly revealing how far they can travel when they run empty.

Just because there is reserve fuel in your car, however, it doesn't mean you should use it or rely on it.

When fuel levels get low the car can start picking up debris from the bottom of the fuel tank.   This can damage the fuel filter and pump and also have a negative effect on the catalytic converter.

If your fuel pump runs dry as a result of you running out of fuel, it can land you a bill of up to £200 to repair.
