Kindergarteners Build an Immersive Model of the Hudson River - Duration: 1:28.

- In our Kindergarten classroom,

we are exploring underneath the Hudson River

and creating a diorama.

Project-based Learning Week is a time

for the children to explore.

We really try to make it child-centered,

and whatever the class comes up with,

we're on it, and we're exploring it.

- I'm on the Wildlife Team.

- I was on the Fish Team.

- I was on the Plant Team.

- I made creatures, and I made a crab.

- This is a blue fish.

- [Jessie] Our brainstorming began very two-dimensional.

They actually began by drawing pictures

and planning that way.

And then I asked them, how could we make it come to life?

How could we make it real?

And we talked about three-dimensional.

- I made the plants three-dimensional,

when it's three-dimensional, it feels more real.

(children chatting)

- I cut a fish out of fabric.

That one.

- [Boy] I painted a blue for water, yellow is for shells.

- I think there's a lot of pride

and there's a lot of ownership.

They created it, it's come to life for them.

And then every single thing in there,

is something that they made.

Every piece of art, every cut of fabric,

and all the critters that they created,

it's all of their work.

So that's very exciting for them.

I support, and I help, and my hands are in it.

But, my ideas are not.
