In this video is a classic Quisp Cereal commercial from 1966, produced by Jay Ward.
Quisp was a cereal produced by the Quaker Oats Company, starting in 1965, along with
its companion cereal Quake.
The company produced joint television commercials for the two sister-cereals and both these
cereals could be found on grocery store shelves until the late 1970s.
After that, Quaker Oats only sold them off and on but today, given the rise of nostalgia
for the cereals of our childhood, you can find Quisp online.
Again, all these commercials and many other cereal commercials like them were produced
by the great Jay Ward.
He produced the Rocky and Bullwinkle show, The Dudly Do-Right Show, George of the Jungle,
Mr. Peabody & Sherman, and more.
As for cereal commercials, well during the 1960s and into the '80s, he was the guy for
making cereal commercials so fun, producing animated cereal specials for General Mills
and even more for Quaker Oats.
The character of Quisp, which, in case you didn't know, was a space alien, was voiced
by Daws Butler.
He voiced, Idon't know, Iguess hundreds of famous characters.
He was Huckleberry Hound, Elroy Jetson, Snagglepuss and so many others.
He even voiced Scooby-Doo for a while in the late '70s, he did Barney Rubble in several
Flinstones episodes and even Fred Flinstone himself in the pilot.
He was also the voice of Cap'n Crunch., whose full name, by the way, was Horatio Crunch.
Those commercials, of course, were also produced by Jay Ward.
The character of Quake appears briefly in this commercial as well.
Quake was voiced by William Conrad.
He voice Marshall Matt Dillon on the radio version of Gunsmoke but you may no him better,
if you're old enough, as Detective Frank Cannon on the television show Cannon, which aired
from 1971 to 1976.
He also was the narrator of the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show.
And of course Daws Butler did a lot of voicing for Rocky and Bullwinkle as well.
These guys worked with Jay Ward in many TV shows and television commercials.
So, here it is.
Enjoy this slice of 1960s pop culture, it's a combination of cereal commercial and Saturday
Morning Cartoon.
Space Control calling Quisp!
This is Quisp.
Over.
An enormous mad ball of yarn is blocking all traffic in space.
Uh-oh.
So it is.
Turn back!
Impossible!
I must deliver this cargo of Quisp cereal to my pals on...whooot!
It's got him!
A knotty problem.
Fortunately, there's always time for a bowl of Quisp cereal.
Use your scrooch gun!
Nope.
I'm using these knitting needles instead.
Knit one, pearl two.
Knit one, pearl two.
Cast off.
Knit one, pearl two.
Cast off knit one, pearl two.
What blinding speed.
He's knitting up that mad ball of yarn faster than it can unravel.
There it goes!
And in its place, a hand-knit necktie, 87 miles long!
Yay!
A good yarn, but Quake is better.
Aaaah.
Quisp is best.
Get the point?
Quisp, from Quaker.
