And onto the latest on the trade talks between the world's two superpowers....

U.S. President Donald Trump says the talks with China are going very well.... but the

details of the discussions in Beijing remain far and few between right now.

Ro Aram has more.

The two-day talks were scheduled to end Tuesday, but reports suggest meetings will continue

beyond that.

Both delegations are refusing to give reasons for the extension and they are also keeping

details very close to their chests.

President Trump continues to be optimistic, however, tweeting the talks are going very

well.

China's foreign ministry also made a similar assessment.

But it again rejected Trump's claim that Beijing is engaging in trade talks due to what he

described as China's slumping economy.

"……As for whether the Chinese economy is good or not, like I said just now, China's

development has enough resilience and huge potential and we are fully confident that

The vice-ministerial level meeting was briefly attended by Liu He, Chinese President Xi Jinping's

chief economic advisor, signaling a possible sense of urgency from Beijing.

Trump wall: President addresses nation on border 'crisis' - BBC News - Duration: 9:34.

my fellow Americans tonight I am is speaking to you because there is a

growing humanitarian and security crisis at our southern border every day Customs

and Border Patrol agents encounter thousands of illegal immigrants trying

to enter our country we are out of space to hold them and we have no way to

promptly return them back home to their country America proudly welcomes

millions of lawful immigrants who enrich our society and contribute to our nation

but all Americans are hurt by uncontrolled illegal migration it

strains public resources and drives down jobs and wages among those hardest hit

are African Americans and Hispanic Americans our southern border is a

pipeline for vast quantities of illegal drugs including meth heroin cocaine and

fentanyl every week 300 of our citizens are killed by heroin alone 90% of which

floods across from our southern border more Americans will die from drugs this

year than were killed in the entire Vietnam War in the last two years ice

officers made 266 thousand arrests of aliens with criminal records including

those charged or convicted of 100,000 assaults thirty thousand sex crimes and

4,000 violent killings over the years thousands of Americans have been

brutally killed by those who illegally entered our country and thousands more

lives will be lost if we don't act right now this is a humanitarian crisis a

crisis of the heart and a crisis of the soul last month

20,000 migrant children were illegally brought into the United States a

dramatic increase these children are used as human pawns by vicious coyotes

and ruthless gangs one in three women are

sexually assaulted on the dangerous trek up through mexico women and children are

the biggest victims by far of our broken system this is the tragic reality of

illegal immigration on our southern border this is the cycle of human

suffering that I am determined to end my administration has presented Congress

with a detailed proposal to secure the border and stop the criminal gangs drug

smugglers and human traffickers it's a tremendous problem our proposal was

developed by law enforcement professionals and border agents at the

Department of Homeland Security these are the resources they have requested to

properly perform their mission and keep America safe

in fact safer than ever before the proposal from Homeland Security includes

cutting-edge technology for detecting drugs weapons illegal contraband and

many other things we have requested more agents immigration judges and bed space

to process the sharp rise and unlawful migration fueled by our very strong

economy our plan also contains an urgent request for humanitarian assistance and

medical support furthermore we have asked Congress to close border security

loopholes so that illegal immigrant children can be safely and humanely

returned back home finally as part of an overall approach to border security law

enforcement professionals have requested 5.7 billion dollars for a physical

barrier at the request of Democrats it will be a steel barrier rather than a

concrete wall this barrier is absolutely critical to border security it's also

what our professionals at the border want and need

this is just common sense the border wall would very quickly pay for itself

the cost of illegal drugs exceeds 500 billion dollars a year vastly more than

the 5.7 billion dollars we have requested from Congress the wall will

also be paid for indirectly by the great new trade deal we have made with Mexico

Senator Chuck Schumer who you will be hearing from later tonight has

repeatedly supported a physical barrier in the past along with many other

Democrats they change their mind only after I was elected president

Democrats in Congress have refused to acknowledge the crisis and they have

refused to provide our brave border agents with the tools they desperately

need to protect our families and our nation the federal government remains

shut down for one reason and one reason only because Democrats will not fund

border security my administration is doing everything in our power to help

those impacted by the situation but the only solution is for Democrats to pass a

spending bill that defends our borders and reopens the government this

situation could be solved in a 45-minute meeting I have invited congressional

leadership to the White House tomorrow to get this done hopefully we can rise

above partisan politics in order to support national security some have

suggested a barrier is immoral then why do wealthy politicians build walls

fences and gates around their homes they don't build walls because they hate the

people on the outside but because they love the people on the inside the only

thing that is immoral is the politicians to do nothing

and continue to allow more innocent people to be so horribly victimized

America's heart broke the day after Christmas when a young police officer in

California was savagely murdered in cold blood by an illegal alien just came

across the border the life of an American Hero was stolen by someone who

had no right to be in our country day after day precious lives are cut

short by those who have violated our borders in California an Air Force

veteran was raped murdered and beaten to death with a hammer by an illegal alien

with a long criminal history in Georgia an illegal alien was recently charged

with murder for killing beheading and dismembering his neighbor in Maryland

ms-13 gang members who arrived in the United States as unaccompanied minors

were arrested and charged last year after viciously stabbing and beating a

16 year old girl over the last several years I've met with dozens of families

whose loved ones were stolen by illegal immigration I've held the hands of the

weeping mothers and embraced the grief-stricken fathers so sad so

terrible I will never forget the pain in their eyes the tremble in their voices

and the sadness gripping their souls how much more American blood must we

shed before Congress does its job for those who refuse to compromise in the

name of border security I would ask imagine if it was your child

your husband or your wife whose life was so cruelly shattered and totally broken

to every member of Congress pass a bill that ends this crisis to

every citizen call Congress and tell them to finally after all of these

decades secure our border this is a choice between right and wrong justice

and injustice this is about whether we fulfill our sacred duty to the American

citizens we serve when I took the oath of office I swore to protect our country

and that is what I will always do so help me God

thank you and good night

Nothing to announce on whether Pompeo will visit N. Korea: State Dept. - Duration: 2:21.

With Kim Jong-un's visit to Beijing arousing speculation about an imminent Pyeongyang-Washington

summit, the possibility of a high-level meeting between the two sides is also emerging.

But the U.S. State Department says there is nothing scheduled as of now.

Lee Ji-won has this report.

According to Radio Free Asia, the State Department's spokesperson for East Asia and Pacific Affairs,

Katina Adams, said Tuesday there is nothing to announce in terms of a visit to North Korea

by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

There has been speculation he might go to Pyeongyang since he did after each of Kim

Jong-un's trips to Beijing last year.

Some also think Kim's latest trip could mean that a second Kim-Trump summit is imminent,

which would require a high-level meeting, at the very least, to prepare.

But there's been no official response from the U.S. about Kim's visit to Beijing.

When asked to respond, Adams simply told RFA to ask China.

And from President Trump, not even a tweet.

But behind the scenes, North Korea and the U.S. appear to be working to make the Kim-Trump

summit happen.

South Korea's ambassador to the United States, Cho Yoon-je , told reporters on Tuesday that

a preparatory meeting for the 2nd Kim-Trump summit could be held soon.

"It's understood that North Korea and the U.S. are continuing exchanges behind the scenes

to prepare for the summit.

And since President Trump and Kim Jong-un are determined to meet again, there are high

expectations that a preparatory meeting will be held soon."

These behind-the-scenes communications are reportedly led by Stephen Biegun, Washington's

special representative for North Korea.

But it's not clear if North Korea's Vice Foreign Minister, Choe Son-hui, is at the other end

of the line.

Publicly, talks between North Korea and the U.S. appear to have stalled since November

last year, when Secretary Pompeo's meeting with his counterpart Kim Yong-chol was postponed

at the North's request due to "scheduling issues."

But various reports, citing U.S. officials, said Pyeongyang actually wasn't ready.

With the talks allegedly stalled due to a difference of view in terms of the denuclearization

process and what rewards North Korea should get for following through, experts say the

two sides will need to come to terms on that... if the high-level talks are going to be held.

Lee Ji-won, Arirang News.

Happy New Year from The U.S. Digital Service - Duration: 4:06.

Happy New Year from the United States Digital Service!

We use design and technology to help Veterans,

military service members, immigrants,

refugees,

disaster survivors, small business owners,

farmers, and Medicare patients.

This year, were excited

to continue doing the greatest good, for the greatest number of people,

in the greatest need.

This year so far we have

helped 50 million people take greater control over their

Medicare data and use it to their own good.

We've allowed people to renew their green cards

more easily and efficiently so they don't have to live with

the uncertainty and fear of having an expired identity.

We've helped transform the public face in the VA, the largest bureaucracy in history.

By doing that we've helped millions of Veterans access their benefits online, in real time, in a way that

they've never been able to do before.

As proud as I am of all the work that we've accomplished in 2018

I'm looking forward to 2019, where we have dozens of projects spread across a number of government agencies.

Each one is designed to improve the lives of its users, in tangible meaningful ways.

So in 2018, I was most excited about

joining the USDS team and

focusing on bringing in top tech talent from across the country, and really focusing on

expanding upon our diverse workforce here.

In 2019 I'm really excited to continue that work and see who else we can meet across the country.

The thing I'm most proud of in 2018

is that our team successfully launched the tool

to reduce the amount of time it takes to process every

asylum seekers claim and help reduce the time that people have to wait to be granted asylum.

In 2019, I'm looking forward to rolling it out to all offices nationwide and

to looking at new opportunities to find other ways to help people coming into this country for asylum.

In 2018 I'm most proud of refreshing our space here at Jackson Place

headquarters and bringing order to the chaos.

In 2019, I'm looking forward to empowering the people of the United States Digital Service

and serve all Americans.

As an Acquisition Strategist

at DHS, one of the things that I focused on in 2018 is improving the immigration experience

via my USCIS, which is one of the major portals for accessing immigration services.

In 2018, I was really proud about coming in

to USDS and helping to make compensation

setting easier for people to understand within USDS.

For 2019, I look forward to continuing helping people understand what we do at the United States Digital Service

and helping them to possibly come on board and

help the federal government improve digital services and transform technologies for all citizens.

Also in 2019, I'm really looking forward to getting married.

In 2018, I'm most proud of having completed

two years and eight months of service with USDS and

getting to train up and meet some of the new members on the talent team.

For 2019 I'm looking forward to a new adventure as a private citizen.

In 2018, I launched a minimum viable product to help Veterans who have currently rated

disabilities, to increase the amount of money they can get when their disabilities get worse,

and I'm really proud of that.

In 2019, I'm looking forward to taking that application to an even larger audience and

expanding the reach to Veterans who've never filed a claim before.

If public service is important to you and you want to learn how you can make a huge impact

for millions of Americans that need it the most,

Russian lawyer in Trump probe denies US charges against her - Duration: 1:50.

The Russian lawyer at the heart of the investigation into possible collusion between President Donald Trump's election campaign and Russia has rejected the U

S. charges leveled against her. Natalya Veselnitskaya, who attended the 2016 Trump Tower meeting that is a focus of the U

S. investigation, was charged Tuesday in the U.S. with obstruction in an unrelated tax-fraud case

U.S. prosecutors said she teamed up with a senior Russian prosecutor and submitted deceptive declarations in the civil case involving a Russian tax refund fraud scheme

Veselnitskaya, who is in Russia, told Russian state television Wednesday the charges against her aim to hinder her "professional activities" including her lobbying efforts in the United States

Donald Trump Jr. says he met with Veselnitskaya because he had been told she could offer damaging information about Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton
