Hi, Jeremy Crow here. This is the first video in a series on the evolution of
Satanism through the ages. This is the first video so I'd like to go over some
of the earliest forms of what we might think of as a form of Satanism.
So, one of these earliest types would have been what I like to call classical
satanic witchcraft. Now generally these individuals would
have been just referred to as a witch, and that could have been whether they're
male or female. Sometimes the word warlock was used, whether or not that was
used correctly or not is another debate, but sometimes it was used but generally
the word witch was was the common word. The witch themselves, they weren't bound
to any specific type of ideology or practice. Tthey essentially used whatever
works. Now a lot of this could have come from a teacher, maybe a relative of
theirs that practiced the old ways and it had come down to them from their
ancestors and and so on and they're passing it down. And these things evolve
over time as well, so it could have picked up other influences along the way
from various different members of the family. And a lot of times they would
pick up practices that they took from the dominant religion, such as
Christianity. So you could have pagan practices done alongside of more Bible
influenced practices such as reciting a specific psalm for a particular purpose.
And this was done sincerely. It wasn't done ironically or with the intent to
blaspheme or anything like that. It was done because they felt that the Bible is
a magical item, in a sense. It's got power to it and they would utilize some of the
words from there to draw some of that power. Another thing that they would do,
they felt free to draw from the dark sides of these traditions that they were
inspired by or influenced by. So, you could have them having prayers... or
incantations would be a better word, towards Satan while also doing another
practice where they would recite a psalm out of the Bible.
So there was an element of pragmatism there
and syncretism. It was frowned upon by the general society if they were in a
Christian community, for example. So it could take on a bit more of a sinister
tint to it, you could say. And I would consider it a form of Satanism or an
early forerunner of Satanism, you could say. Now another form would have been
Reverse Christianity. This would be any type of practice that could have been
considered Satanic if it was breaking rules of Christianity in some form or
another. You had people who would do practices that would be considered
Satanic for a specific purpose and some of those practices, say for example a
Reversal could have been reciting the Lord's Prayer backwards. And this was
supposed to draw forth a type of dark energy that could be used in destructive
magic. Another thing you could do would be a Perversion of Christianity and
this would be something along the lines of performing a Mass for the Dead but
for somebody who is still alive. Now this used to happen where a corrupt priest
would take money under the table from an individual who wanted somebody dead. And
so they would pay the priest to, in the middle of the night, you know, secretly
they would attend a mass. This priest that they paid to perform a Mass for the
Dead for the individual that they're trying to encourage to die, in a sense. So
it was almost like a magic spell. Like acting as if the person had already died
and they had performed the sacrament or the sacramental ritual of the Mass of
the Dead or the Requiem for the dead to encourage the person to die.
Kind of like setting things in motion. And so that would be a Perversion. So you
have the Reversal. So like a reverse Lord's Prayer. You
have the Perversion, which would be like using an actual ritual but using it for
a perverted reason or for a reason that it's not intended to be used for. So
that would be a perversion of Christianity. And another form would be
Blasphemy. So you could satirize or blaspheme, do a blasphemous version of
say the Eucharist or the the Holy Mass of Catholicism. For example, the Black
Mass is a mockery of the Catholic Mass where they will do sinful or even just
repulsive things that were considered dirty or unclean or sinful and they did
it in a manner that imitated the Mass as a form of blasphemy to, kind of... some
people would do this as a way to break free. To attain a certain level of
freedom from the mental and emotional bonds that a religion can can hook into
somebody. So this is a way to, kind of, break yourself out of it and say, "Okay,
this has no hold on me anymore." And you can go through a cathartic, blasphemous
experience where you're just kind of saying, "I don't give a damn about any of
this anymore!" And you do a whole mockery of it and it can be very cathartic for
people when they do that. That's a classic Satanic ritual right there. It's
a Black Mass, of course! So I think we'll end on that video. If you want to see the
next installment of this "Evolution of Satanism" video series then I definitely
recommend that you subscribe to the channel.
