hello listeners and welcome to the penultimate episode of tales from the
dark dragons in season 1 episode 19 kill your darlings
this episode is a little on the short side and that's because we left a lot on
the cutting room floor don't worry you're not missing much from a gameplay
perspective we had a great time from a listener point of view there's a swathe
of this session where pretty much nothing happened so for the sake of
keeping things interesting a good chunk of it got cut should be fairly obvious
way rest assured literally nothing happened
welcome to again got a lot to catch up on if you are against the odds the
scales of justice live yet will their luck hold out to scroll currently have
the blue egg holding the ground back tried to see if there were any remnants
left behind there were not all of the crystalline like structures were built
into the egg itself and we're not part of the cavern in any way can I try and
see if I can lift up the red egg myself
no it's a 2-2 mix she puts her arms around the egg and then she moves them
around and no matter what she does she can't seem to find a good position she
can't get good handle on it no matter if she puts her hand around this side then
one of the crystalline structures is poking her in the armpit so she moves it
around the other side then she uses her other arm to try and hold that gem but
then there's another one that's poking her in the shoulder and no matter what
she does she can't actually even get a good grip on this and so it just looks
like she's hugging the egg but she doesn't appear to be making any headway
with it can I see if the egg will actually moves and I tried very gently
slightly rolling it to see if if I could do it that way if you want to risk it oh
no I mean I'm not saying they're fragile they are definitely stronger than your
average robin egg but if you want to risk it tobe from the platform
watching Knicks hug her way around this egg I'm watching mix struggle pretty
long moving and hiring about where I'm going to go down there and help and
eventually it gets to a point it's kind of just painful to watch so I stand up
and I go down the stairs and go over to mix do you want some help
mmm what or need well that's up to you do you want some help mix yes I want us
to bring this egg with us I don't want to leave it behind it'll be a lonely egg
if it's all on its own and it doesn't have its beautiful sapphire sibling
almost opposite mix but as as opposite tone as I can be and still I'm gonna try
and help mix lift it between the two so next you can try once more
okay so Toby and mix you both put your hands on either side of the egg and bend
your knees off the ground we tried Toby we tried yeah after we put
it back down so now we can't leave the older I get there's this being
definitely other dragon then there's certainly no way you can possibly let
them have all of it my raising to all sorts of abominable religious monsters I
agree can carry it between you okay you trying to call me weak straw turbine
just gives her look I wouldn't say to your face just wait until you're healed
up buddy and mix shakes a little wobbling fist
because she's weak from trying to lift the egg you watch this girl casually
puts the egg in one arm while he scratches his nose readjust it to get
himself comfortable is just like go flat out in his disproving Myrna Novak do you
guys wanna try would you want to come up with an idea of how
better handle first of all I'm going to light a torch and I'm going to wander
over to that far side of the room that I don't think anyone really looked at yet
it's just occurred to about gang up here might actually be a problem you light up
your torch and you wander over to the far ends of the room you scout out the
area and it doesn't look like there's any other way out the only way in and
out of the pit is up and down the stairs that you just came down to look into
this area there doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary
flat stone caves you can see signs that the drakes that were in here I have been
living here a while there are various decaying haunches of meat and various
animal carcasses and you're not sure if they've been left here to feed the
drakes or to feed the abomination on the ceiling but other than the remnants of
dead things there's nothing really here there's nothing to be concerned about
there's nothing that's gonna pop out of the shadows behind you or anything but
there also are additional exits mmm okay so I traveled back to the party and I'm
gonna raise my concerns about this we will have to go by the way we came
through that room that was filled with gas I don't know how we'll make it have
to drag the eggs on the steps here as well we'll be very slow going
that is no risk a box just gonna walk go to the right-hand side of the room and
he's going to address Gregor on to core mix is going to follow him and tag along
you guys
what about tooka tooka still on the ceiling where you stand you look up and
you try to locate touka and you see that there is Gregor in fact touka is holding
him up in his tentacle not in a grapple or dangling him in any way
touka is holding Gregor up by its face and Gregor is trying to remove the
cement glue-like substance Gregor I have a proposition for you
he doesn't appear to respond I'll try again in draconic Gregor we have a
proposition you want dissolve this room you leave they will leave with eggs you
go if you help us get these eggs out I can tend to your friends i anybody else
is there anything else we could trade you for help
we'll leave if you help us Gregor I am a doctor and - cos I isn't going to heal
on its own my friends - I can heal to go I can heal none of them I don't think
this is gonna work a rock he's not gonna help us
I have an idea I will go back to the room of the Gus and see if it's still
there good luck yeah it's still there but it
is distinctly thinner now it does appear to be clearing out and you figure give
it enough time and it probably will be at least possible for people who don't
have your incredible levels of endurance I returned to the group and report that
is excellent news now more importantly can you and myrn carry this egg
certainly try I am a doctor not a strong them well you
might be stronger than me so please
you can either bring it out with you or if you're really concerned about the
cultists having possession of a dragon egg finding another way to make sure
that the cultists do not have possession of a dragon egg no that might piss off
the giant in his by far too valuable a specimen there hmm copy drag the egg may
have some odds and ends in where does everyone have feet wearing a robe they
could take it off maybe ten headed to a baby I do have a riding cloak no one
else have anything they could possibly bundle it in that one might make its
move it to pull or drag squaw could you lift this other egg and give us a chance
to wrap this cloth around it it's wool uncloak might protect it from most of
the straw why don't you give me the blue egg and I'm gonna try it and take my
monk robe off and swaddle it if I can and then tie it around me slowly starts
leaning the weight onto you and he watches your knees start to buckle and
pulls the air back maybe I should just put it down and then I'll pick it up
again afterwards it's probably a good idea I'll help you
carry it then me and Merrin two of us Duma singer you can help to scrawl
stands aside as you step in our back to put your weight behind the egg and the
moment that he lets go you both suddenly realize how incredibly heavy this dragon
egg is and screw at the last minute manages to just grab it off Lauren's
back as he stumbles forwards I'm just gonna put it down here let's see if we
can work out that dragging plan I'm popular opinion it might be wiser to
just take one and see if we can come back for the other later we know where
it is now assuming that they don't decide to move it there's also a Roper
here awesome that beast isto morons taking his robe
off and wrapped the blue egg in it screw is untying that because that plank ler
who didn't work and he hands you your robe back myrn after he gently places
the egg on the ground and this is right so
I'm going to lift this red egg and you are going to bundle it and then between
you all you will drag it or hoist it or whatever it is you're going to do and
I'll carry the blue air yes casually hoists the red egg out of its position
this is red would you want to grab my woolen cloak and begin to wrap it around
the egg I'm holding the roads up back finishes tying off the cloak around the
red oak Marin you begin swallowing it in the robe now that you've got it all
wrapped up scroll puts it down and you find that
it's not exactly easy to move it it does seem like you can potentially maneuver
this around so scroll goes back over to deep blue egg and picks it up very
easily right shall we leave these two to their own devices then and get out of
here sounds like a plan this is so you are dragging the egg presumably with the
rope as its swaddled in robes and votes I'm gonna go and give the eggs from
support just to make sure it doesn't bounce too much overall something's done
behind it managed to scrape it up the stairs it's not getting up there
completely bump three but you managed after a few minutes to get it to the top
and when you get there you notice from above you Gregor is looking down and
sneering at your puny efforts despite my better instincts I go on ahead a little
ways just to check that the coast is clear because the last thing you want is
people who are struggling to drag a heavy thing running into trouble before
they see it coming so you go on ahead you cross the open platform to the
stairs that and Italy initially led you to this area you get to the room that
was filled with the gas trap and you watch as the last remnants of the gas
dissipates that does not appear to be anyone in here there is an exit to the
northwest of the room and that is up another flight of stairs towards the
bridge I call back that the gases dissipated and the room appears to be
safe now I'll take up the rear so I will walk
behind the eggs basically so that on the option something tries to sneak up on us
I can shout out despite carrying an egg straw is effectively taking the lead
he's just behind Toby hey there friend you look like you need a coffee why
don't you take a quick moment to sit down throw the kettle on get yourself a
hot steamy brew and in the meantime here's something just a little bit

some guys are still holding the egg this stairs leading out of the fungal Grove
collapsed because someone stepped on them at some point
Toby's just a walking disaster be nice let's move they actually create very
convenient and sort slippery given the coverage of fungus slope which you can
drag the eggs up and you find yourself on the platform leading to the exit of
the cave no leaving was a lot quicker than entering who's leading at this
point it would still be me wind it's and sweet you don't hear anything at all
it's really really quiet I wouldn't have expected to hear much for outside the
cave because the last is the wind rushing from the outside and rushes in
from the entrance and you hear that rattling around anything hmm
well the only ones there with a can COO before we went in but where you're
standing right now there is a path to the left as well as the entrance to the
case and the path to the left is what leads to the fork and the fork had two
rooms one had the doom singer in it and the other doctor said there were a lot
of people in there I conveyed that it's scarily quiet but we should just get out
I mean I can send us out of the cave and he'll be able to see things if it's
quiet in here I'm still a bit worried about what might be out there
I think sending ours out is probably not a bad idea
yes it's quiet thing unless it's still like dark outside then no I'm sure what
time is know also if it's okay when we get out look for a cache of some kind
dragging these outs all about the greenness that's gonna be a pain tents
and stuff left behind so it might be prudent to find somewhere to take a rest
and then try and see if there's a car or something yeah I was probably good idea
you probably have lost all track of time you've been in a cave for at least a
couple of hours but from where you're standing right now you can see out of
the cave or at least you can see the sky and it does look dark out hmm
I'm gonna send us out of the cave someone's bound to have noticed that
we've gone given how easy it was to get out because
of how little you left behind I would assume someone has noticed you
have been through yes I just don't want to walk into an ambush outside there's
nothing outside and I'm quite happy to just get the fuck out and boss can you
fly on ahead for me and make sure there's no one absolutely no one outside
waiting for us I do my best good boy go on take care of yourself I
will stay right there whoa boy Thanks well I'll stay right here okay oz
takes off and carefully flies out of the cave oz flies around for a bit I even
see those taken folks no one here at all I turn to the rest group according to Oz
is no one out there not leave them can COO they were there before I vote we
leave before that changes I vote that's hella suspicious but also
we should leave well we should probably make a move get outside see if we can
find anything to make pushing these eggs easier yes I'm sure that's something
lying around they use those cards to bring the loot back to greenness do you
see any of those I can't unless you want they may have just taken it with them
when they took everything else I suppose we can have a look though no harm in it
although how we would drive such a thing I'm not sure they did have forces and as
we've previously established none of us know how to use those we will be the
horses
so what's by you guys just gonna head out of the cave or maybe one at a time
first quickly and quietly I'm thinking maybe one of us or two of us should go
first and then if we can confirm it's as clear as we can tell then the others can
follow the signal but I I will go with you because Merrin and Auerbach were
helping with the eggs anyway unscrews carrying an egg and doom singer just
wouldn't and I can't see in the dark no we'll probably be at the back exactly
I Gotoh be sneaking but being as quick as I can at it as well yeah same okay so
the both of you split off from the group and stealth towards the entrance of the
cave and you take I besides you split you scrape along the
sides of the walls and you come out to the entrance of the cave looking out
over the remnants of the encampment the previously lecounte fire is burned out
and the smoke rising from it indicates that it was probably put out relatively
recently but it's a meal at night at a casual glance everything looks fairly
clear you don't see anyone from where you're standing
Toby's not quite satisfied it looks clear but they're all in a bad way and
he doesn't really want to take any chances I crouched down as I leave
trying to make myself as small as possible with all six feet of me
crouched walk out of the cave looking around as I do where are you looking so
if you're scouting it's not completely empty there are some tents how far is
the nearest one from the cave entrance the closest tents of the area would
probably be closer to about hundred foot is there any other kind of cover no this
is a pretty blank area except for the giant tree that was in the center of the
camp and the randomly ANSYS past tense in that case I just walk over to where
the Kangoo campfire that they had the campfire was pretty close I'd say it was
64 so towards the northeast trying to keep as much of an eye on my
surroundings as like can I crouch walk over to that campfire since it's closest
and take a squinting as I look around trying to see if there's any movement in
the camp can mix take a rock I assume there's a couple maybe around outside of
the cave and throw it just as far as you can to see if it landing gets a reaction
of anything and throwing it away from the direction Toby went in because the
last thing she'd want to do is calm Toby out you just want to throw up yeah I
want to throw a rock not just money to throw a rock
you throw real good you just throw that rock it goes real far and lands
somewhere in the camp Toby you can't see anything from where you are you don't
see any signs of movement looking around the camp area doesn't appear to be any
signs I'm still worried but I'm relatively satisfied so I give mix a
thumbs up that it's safe and the others should follow in that case I will convey
to the rest of our party members so confident that you guys have scouted
sufficiently oh and say confident
satisfied that you have at least covered your bases and there's a pretty good
chance probably there isn't any ambushed lying in wait inside this camp or
anything you all make your way out into the camp Toby from your position you
hear small soft impact noises not entirely unlike the sound of an adult's
humanoid landing in grass all around you torches like well shit and begin to
close in as you look up and see stepping out from a tent in the centre of the
area what looks like an elf wearing a long cloak as they begin to walk towards
you and your group and the bearers of the torches close in quite quickly
forming a very wide ring between the walls and the area in which you stand I
knew getting in that cave was too easy I knew it I was gonna crouch down low
behind the egg I'm gonna stand up in front of the egg and try and hide it
behind me this is what my speech puts the egg down behind him so know
what I back up when I start preparing elders blast with anyone tries to attack
the elf looking figure that as in the center of the camp continues to walk
towards your position do you feel accomplished the figure in front of you
you can see more clearly now in the torchlight being held up by the group is
a half-elf female who is half red dragon born and she has a vicious-looking red
scale pattern that my her face quite distinctly I could use
people like you what are your services worth wait who
are you she turns and smiles and her teeth are sharp and pointed and there
are a lot of them I'm asking the questions for now and you notice in the
torchlight that her robe is visibly a rich and deep purple I believe there's
been a misunderstanding you see I was delivering them too and I'll just be
stepping over here now oh no you don't that's enough of that that's really not
necessary come tell me what are you worth well it depends on who's asking
she does a small bow are you well I mix it's a lovely name I believe your
friends are carrying something that belongs to a friend of mine and what
friend of yours is this she points upwards and you hear it's the great
beating of wings and air pressure comes beating down and a dark shadow despite
the night's briefly blots out the light of the moon as it soars across the camp
they're very close to hatching you know you should not have disturbed then might
belong to your friend but what do you have to do with it as I said I'm the one
asking questions I believe I have you at somewhat of a disadvantage that's what
you want us to think isn't it she looks briefly taken aback am I missing
something here I don't think I'm missing something here
she's definitely missing something you're an interesting one what say I
recruit just you you come over here or take care of your friends you turned the
eggs to weather belong and you'll be just fine no very
well and on trust people like you so the eggs are your lives we're not giving you
these eggs they don't belong to you as you wish and she turns around and starts
walking away from you snaps her fingers and you hear the great beating of wings
as Lenin flies overhead the guards make no moves to move away
they just lower their weapons and hold them in anticipation oh wait
really oh my god someone closer to him slap him please if I wasn't busy trying
to hide the eggs behind me even though they're clearly not hidden
I would definitely slap him turns around I'm gonna carefully back into the cave
as you start backing into the cave you hear lands heavily on the ground above
it slamming his claws into the ground and the cave behind you begins to
collapse well there goes that so it's right above us
he is directly above you 15 foot above the cave entrance slamming into the
ground and it's not a complete cave-in but there are chunks of ceiling
collapsing down and it's being made very clear that he is more than capable of
collapsing this I look up I just put my hand up medicine stopped we have two
progeny
there's no language coming from him at the moment it seems to all just be there
oh great how fragile of these eggs I investigated before Oh God fragile they
are they seemed really sturdy very tough so could they withstand a blow from the
mace you don't know that's gonna tense a dragon and do everyone basically and
just say well for the aggressive for someone whose children we are holding
don't suppose he'll be a good move for them to attack us and I'm going to stand
very close to the egg Whitman are you saying it quietly to the party
nope I'm declaring it out loud to everyone one that steps forward look you
really don't
if you care about our best interests I care nothing for you I do care about
these children and their future but you're right I care nothing for you
however and she points up at the dragon screeching and roaring above you would
not be wise to pursue this course of action why can't we speak with him he's
spoken to us before we know we can communicate why what's happening she
ignores your question I'm gonna maintain eye contact with the dragons while
slowly grabbing Moran's mace I'm standing menacingly and closer to the
egg and I've carefully say in draconic get us out of here
through these cultists over them any other way and you will have your ex back
a five-foot bolt of lightning gouges out the earth next to your feet in a 90-foot
line so it starts by the wall and charges away from you down the line of
the camp lasting right through one of the cultists but it appears to be very
clear that the Cultus was not the intended target
it was simply sending a very clear message or at least as clear as it could
be unless one else was going to do anything to try and stop me I'm gonna
gently wrap on the egg with a mace and then I'm gonna try and prep an attack on
the egg in reaction to anything attacking me and then I'm just gonna
give it another chance don't think that's a
it's a gentle rub my plan to actually smash it my death looks up I really
think I say in comic and loud enough that the dragon can hear me we have no
problems with giving the eggs back to the dragon we just don't want to give
them back to you that isn't the conversation we're having now is it not
the conversation that I'm having view but as stated we made a deal with this
dragon previously we're quite happy to it what uh snaps her fingers okay as I
said that's not the conversation we're having might have done something to the
dragon since we spoke to it I'm getting that impression I look at the dragon and
I'm just gonna Scheldt around all of us well shit oh shit you are looking up at
lethen as you scream this not really knowing what it means and as you look
into the eyes of the dragon you see that its face is almost completely glazed
over and you recall back at the keep lemma 'then was saying something about
power power over him progeny and when you guys were asking why I couldn't do
anything about it it kept insisting that something had
power of him as you scream out this word the glaze over the dragon's eyes
disappears however briefly and it turns and it almost seems to smile and you're
paying attention meirin as its eye is focus on you once more as it bends down
from the perch on these stone walls above you bears its teeth and opens it's
more as you watch a glow of radiant blue energy build in its throat as it surges
forwards striking out into the mate

all I want to do is take the egg babies and walk away and raise them in a nice
field where there's no bad guys mix can't have a pet dragon can to Toby
feels very very nervous about that but think of all the places we could go if
we had a dragon how would we feed it goats and stuff right I mean dragons
probably away so picky
I don't know join us next week for the final episode of season 1 episode 20 the
