His grandfather and my father started the business in 1950, here in Monterey. He

died at a very early age, unfortunately, at 57 years old. I saw at an early age

that my father had built something that was really really special.

I'm very thankful to have a trade like this. And applying this trade in this area is very

good too.

My name is Ron Steudler. I'm the second generation of Steudler Masonry, and this is my

son Santana. He's the third generation. When I was a little kid I worked for my

father. I was a little kid and worked for 25 cents an hour. My father told me if you

want to get in the trades it's a good way to make a living. But the

only problem was I lost my father when I was 23.

So I didn't know the trade yet by any stretch. So I thought one of the best

things to do since I didn't know what I was doing exactly, was to hire some of

the guys that had worked for him - who were really really top masons. But just

started in 1976, got my license, and started going and

just never stopped really. Santana joined me after he had a stint on the Canadian

Golf Tour after a college golf career. And you know he's been with me for 15 years

or more. So in 1998 I got my own license and decided to join him. And I worked for

him for a couple years before that. We've had the privilege of staying very busy

through the years. We've worked for some kind of really neat people - quite a few

high-profile people. Actually after we did Reggie's house in 1987, right

across the highway over here, he met my son at the golf course. He saw Santana was

a really good golfer. So that piqued his interest. So he said, "Oh yeah,

what's your name?" Santana said, "You know my father." He goes, "Oh, who's your father?" He

said, "Ron Steudler, he did the work at your house." He goes, "Oh yeah, yeah - your dad's a

good man!" or whatever like this. So they formed a friendship of which they are

very very close. And Santana's always out giving him lessons on the golf course and

you know, ending up playing golf. And sometimes we travel with him actually a little

bit and stuff. So that worked out really cool. So I will say that having a son

that comes up and moves into the business with you - I would have a hard

time right now without him doing the business. And I really appreciate all

that. That'll keep me going a little bit longer than if I didn't have him. I don't

see it stopping anytime soon. I keep threatening that I'm gonna' move

somewhere and retire or whatever and Santana, he tells me, "Dad you're not retiring."

He said, "You'll be in your 80's and you'll be on the job site pointing at stuff with your tape

measure because you don't want to bend over."

"You'll be pointing at stuff and telling people how it needs to be." And I said,

"Well, you could be right. It's possible." We sometimes tell people

we can put it so tight, it's credit card tight. You can't get a credit card in

between the stones. When people appreciate it like that and they, you know,

and they really like what you're doing - yeah, that really makes you feel good.

TIME IN CALIFORNIA ⁄⁄ CatCreature - Duration: 21:51.

carefully making my way down there because we have an amazing view that

we're gonna have dinner to

We're currently in the backyard, on top of this beautiful peak and

there's a shower right here that we're gonna use later.

This is the owner's house

and our B&B is this cabin attachment on here and there's even this

yard with the garden up on top so we're just currently sitting here having

dinner, which is ramen (our go to vacation dinner)

and then we're washing some grapes, so it's a very quaint evening.

We checked out of the BNB, it's almost noon

so we're going to stop by this cafe that looked really nice called Fox & Kit

putting in creamer is my favorite part about making coffee right now

and my dad is in the restroom so I'm going to secretly do it to his cofee~~

Oh,

that didn't really do anything

...You already put some in?

Did you already put some in there?

I just drove around 5.5 hours down to LA

I left in the afternoon and I didn't vlog because I was the only one in the car driving

and now I'm at this BNB that's very dim and it's beautiful but

I have to figure out the frequency because it's leaving marks on the screen

it's already 10 something and I'm really hungry

I stopped by and got Indian food but I didn't want to stay long there so I had

very little before getting back on the road so I'm going to finish my dinner now

get ready for bed, and have a day ahead of me tomorrow

I'm here in LA--I made it~

such a cute little cozy room I love this

It's 1:30 p.m. now I've spent the last five or so hours editing.

It always takes much longer than you think!

Originally I had plans but I got swapped to tomorrow

so today ended up clearing up to be the day

that I just go window-shopping spent alone, and enjoy myself.

So I wanted to go to a cafe to do all of that just because

this place doesn't have AC and it's really hot but I end up just wanting to save

the money and also time and parking.

The loft is huge spacious and beautiful

so it was nice to work and even though I'm covered in sweat already

it's like 80 something degrees--And sludge buckets has been

following me around but now he's just lounging on this cold... it's not even that cold..

I surprisingly found parking in under two minutes because somebody was

walking to a meter and I actually had a slowcrawl stalk

the meter was actually paid for another two and a half hours

so I get free parking~ and this is the same Arts

district location I came to last year when I got home the first time

except last time I was with my sister

I realized I didn't really vlog any of the afternoon but it's the same old typical

going shopping and I picked up some things so I can workout in it.

it's time that I actually invest in some nice things instead of one:

Stealing from my mom and going to savers

just because I am becoming way more fit so it is nice that

I have some good running shoes and shorts that aren't too big and

for dinner I'm craving something clean

just because I think tomorrow I'm gonna have

an intense workout so it would be nice

I could have gone to a restaurant if I yelped it

but that's more of a social thing if I was with somebody it's really fun to

go out because I eat super slow and I can chat there

but I'm just by myself so I'd rather go get some groceries

and have a night in with my computer.

...

and sludge buckets

I'm sat up in the little cozy nook up here for dinner because I'm gonna

watch some Netflix. I'm really interested in starting the show safe

that's the Netflix original I heard it on a podcast somebody recommended to me and it also

has Michael C Hall which is from one of my favorite shows Dexter and apparently

he talks on a British accent so I'm gonna see what that's like

warm food is not cheap at Whole Foods

but I figured I mean it's still cheaper than going to a

restaurant everything was $17

...

Wow, how many people have to TEXT me??

Just kidding, it's okay :^)

This lights up!... WHAT

What!

That's so cool~~

I wonder what that would look like if I turned all that off

it's kind of creepy now...

the running shoes

View of the room before I go one last time

that's the nook I was in last night

The cozy little bed over here

hello! ^_^

How are you~

I'm good!

I'm Running a little late

I know

ahh we're going to Barry's Bootcamp! (intense fitness class)

I'm tired

I'm tomato face it was really fun except for

when we had to run on incline and I never do that so I got a really bad

cramp which is when you saw me like standing there for a little bit

I was like *what do I do~*

but it was actually really good. I also never workout with weights, so did you see when

he came and like, moved my arms because I wasn't doing it right--I was like "ohh" >.<

Hi Komy hello baby

So we just finished filming

this is Amy's very professional YouTuber equipment

Yeah you got the mic got the tripod and then

here's my tripod

finishing up here and Amy's gonna

have to drop me off to my car and I have a longer drive to West Hollywood but it was

so fun hanging out here I love your space we can't wait to hopefully come back

It's been sooo great!

thank you so much for making time I just had the best time

this is exactly what I thought it would be.

yeah it was so fun I feel like we were both productive and had a lot of fun so

yeah!

Enjoy your event tonight~

Aww thank you thank you!

Byeeee~~~

I've made it to Melrose; I am a very patient driver

10 miles 45 minutes

...

no it was even longer than that because there was a collision

but--see it wasn't so bad! And I just found parking after being

honked at a bunch of times and finding two that were actually

if you read a sign correctly to

you can't park there so, I think this one is actually good and it's two hour parking

I'm walking to the restaurant I think I see him in the distance!!

Hiiiii!

I wore yellow because I was like "oh she likes yellow"

YES I love yellow

Yeah I like your yellow clothing rack so I was like "I'm gonna just wear yellow"

I look kind of like a ketchup-mustard cowboy

I think she's the best at taking photos; like I'm confused

hehe wut!?

I'm hiring you

I'm hiring you to take all my photos!

I'll be here on the same height as you

...

oh yeah you're a bit--

we actually are the same height now

oh thank you so much for making time

Annabelle's my favorite human ever I think

awwww

yeah it's really good thank you for taking me to your favorite restaurant

Oh yeah

it was lovely chatting with you

yeah if you are ever in LA go to "Zinque"

we're not 100% sure but it's not Melrose; you can google it

Byee

Byeee

byyyeeee

had a lovely breakfast kimchi fried rice made by my friend Kailen thank you so

much for hosting me this morning I was supposed to go pick up Cone and see him

but early morning he told me that he woke up really really sick and isn't

even taking the train back up to LA where I was supposed to pick him up but

I'm more bummed out that he is feeling this bad and I know I'll see him again

in the future, so--I mean by now by the time I've edited this he would have been okay

but yes I miss him and I'm bummed out that I won't be seeing him but

really I just want him to take care of himself

and I'm up in the other Plaza where urban surplus is I've been here twice

already literally last night I came to LA I think there wasn't anything good

last time first time I bought all those sweaters I still wear these days

and it was $10 so it was nice

but there's a Starbucks near here because I still have

a few hours before anything opens

so I'll just be here in the Starbucks

a really chill morning and then browse and urban surplus

and then I'll figure out the rest of the day

I am so hungry

I only got one thing at urban surplus I tried on maybe eight

things at one point there was this really cute floral dress but I enjoyed

the colors and the little print but it was the v-neck that I didn't like I'm

not trying it on right now so it's hard to really explain but not only do I love

the color palette that's not very predictable the line-weight variation

and everything is just really nice and the construction of this there's a trim

here and multiple...what do you call this again? Kind of pleats but not really

afterwards I went to get a manicure I haven't gone in probably two years ever

since I went to RISD I haven't gotten single manicure

I wanted a bright red-orange kind of like this color but they ran out of it

so I went for a peach but on my skin it almost looks nude because it complements

the fleshy tones it's like a pinky orangy

next is to go to the post office

to mail out these pair of shorts

I got this and I think freshman year or when I

was 15 or something and wow it's almost five years later

I'm kind of over this

and it's time for somebody else to enjoy it

hello

I just spent the morning and part of the afternoon with Krist

Yeah what time is it?

it it's like 2:45 we met at 10:30

with our schedules and everything we

didn't end up getting to film something and spending multiple days

so at least we got a lot of talking

yeah

and it was really fun. So I don't know when I'll see you again

Yeah, I'm gonna miss you! I was just saying I hate many people and

then like knowing I can't see them in forever

but it's okay

originally I'd I would only get like one hour with you and I had to go

But we got a lot more time together and it was really fun

I didn't really vlog this but it was really just about spending quality time and talking

you're better than me--I didn't vlog like anything

hehe

Byeee

I am on my drive back up now and I might as well get some dinner

in and out was right there but it was so crowded and

the time of day is just beautiful right now

to avoid the lines delaying me any further I'm just gonna eat at McDonald's

get coffee and I should hopefully be home around midnight

I meant to be home a little bit earlier

but we just got really caught up playing games and

talking so he didn't leave my friend Claire's place until later but it's okay

because it's still a reasonable time

so I was wrong it was so crowded in there

but it's okay, I got what I needed

California's largest wildfire brings new dangers for firefighters on front lines - Duration: 7:49.

After more than three weeks, firefighters Monday continued to struggle against the largest fire in modern California history as the Mendocino Complex blaze prompted more evacuations and posed new dangers to those on the front lines

While battling the fire, five members of Los Angeles Fire Department Strike Team 1880C were injured Sunday

All five suffered minor injuries and were treated and released from area hospitals

Advertisement  Many of the nearly 3,500 firefighters on the lines aren't familiar with the steep terrain in the area, which has made battling the blaze more difficult and dangerous, said Capt

Cary Wright, a spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection

The dense timber and brush provide continuous fuel for flames and make it arduous for firefighters to access the area safely

"Trees burn and then fall, so it's dangerous to get ground resources in there," he said

The dense brush also makes water and retardant drops by plane less effective.  Crews are on especially high alert after Matthew Burchett, a firefighter who traveled from Draper City, Utah, to help battle the blaze, died last week

A Cal Fire report released Monday said Burchett was struck by falling tree debris during a retardant drop

The report called on the agency to make sure firefighters were clear of areas with overhead hazards during drops

"The message at this morning's briefing was to make sure all the crews have lookouts and are keeping their head on a swivel," Wright said

Officials issued a mandatory evacuation order Sunday night for areas west of County Road 306 to the Lake County line, including the Mendocino National Forest area from the Colusa County line to County Road 308

Portions of Lake, Mendocino and Colusa counties remain under mandatory evacuation, according to Cal Fire

(Los Angeles Times)  The Ranch and River fires, which make up the Complex fire, had burned 398,862 acres as of Monday morning

Firefighters treat the Ranch and River fires as one event, even though the two fires never merged

The River fire is fully contained, but steep, inaccessible terrain, erratic winds and low humidity have made the Ranch blaze difficult to control, Wright said

The Ranch fire is 74% contained, Cal Fire officials said Monday.  Wright said the fire continued to chew through dry brush even as humidity increased overnight, when firefighters typically gain traction battling wildfires

Fire officials geared up for a tough fight on Monday, when humidity was expected to drop further and temperatures were predicted to climb

"The fire activity has been unpredictable," Wright said. "We have to get through the next 24 hours

It's going to be pretty dangerous conditions." Advertisement  Firefighters hope to gain momentum later in the week as cooler temperatures roll into the area

The Mendocino blaze has destroyed 157 homes since it broke out nearly a month ago

Years of drought have created ripe conditions for large-scale wildfires that spread rapidly

Of the five largest wildfires in state history, four have occurred since 2012.  The Front fire, which broke out on Sunday in the Los Padres National Forest in the Santa Maria area, has burned 1,000 acres and was 10% contained as of Monday

The blaze, which brought 700 firefighters to the area, forced the closure of Highway 166 between Santa Maria and Cuyama in both directions on Monday, according to Santa Barbara County officials

In Redding, the Carr fire has claimed eight lives and more than 1,000 homes as it grew to 229,651 acres as of Monday morning

The fire is 88% contained.  The Holy fire, which has charred 22,887 acres in Riverside and Orange counties is 92% contained as of Monday, according to Cal Fire officials

1:50 p.m.: This article was updated with additional details about Matthew Burchett's death
