The Dark Truth About Dumbo - Duration: 4:54.

The emotionally devastating Disney classic from our childhood is being remade into a
live action feature...
Um, I guess that isn't specific enough.
There were a lot of emotionally devastating Disney films from our childhood.
Honestly, Disney is pretty hardcore with the emotions.
But the film next in line for a remake is none other than Dumbo.
Dumbo is often considered one of the greatest movies from the original Walt Disney animation
era.
With Tim Burton in the director's chair, as well as a really emotional trailer, the Dumbo
remake has us all really excited.
But despite that, today we're going to take a look at some of the darker themes and history
that revolves around Dumbo and it's production.

PETA The controversial animal rights group, PETA,
or the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals was the first to bring up concern
over the messaging behind Dumbo's story.
In the 1941 classic, the ending involves Dumbo learning that his feather was never magical,
and that he is still able to fly without it.
He becomes a world sensation and is reunited with his mother for future performances.
But in today's era, now that animal performances have been put in the spotlight as unethical,
it begs the question of how Tim Burton will tackle the ending.
In 2015, shortly after the film's announcement, PETA Senior VP Lisa Lange wrote an open letter
to Burton saying "We're hopeful that in your adaptation of Dumbo, the young elephant and
his mother can have a truly happy ending by living out their lives at a sanctuary instead
of continuing to be imprisoned and abused in the entertainment industry."
Considering the original Dumbo already explored some rather dark and emotional subject matter,
it'll be interesting to see how the ending is written.
Especially considering Tim Burton's track-record when it comes to darker themes and storytelling.
Replacing Racist Characters The chorus of crows who help cheer Dumbo on
throughout the original movie has long been a subject of controversy.
Many film critics have pointed out that these characters were very obviously offensive stereotypes
from a more racist era in American history.
In fact, the leader of the choir was named Jim Crow.
Considering how iconic these characters were, it will be interesting to see how Burton chooses
to incorporate them using different, non-offensive voice-over.
Or if he decides to scrap them all together in an attempt to erase any connection to the
bigotry that existed in the original film.
Dark Subject Matter Disney has a history of some rather dark and
certainly emotional animated films.
Especially considering their audience has always been younger children.
This is in no way a criticism, as many believe the mature subject matter and the creative
ways in which Disney has tackled these tough themes is what has always made the studio
so amazing.
And not just recently, but since the beginning.
That said, Dumbo, like some of the other early Disney films like Bambi or the Renaissance-era
films like The Lion King, were never afraid to explore the theme of losing a parent (Be
it through death or just separation).
Going back to the subject of animal treatment, now that the public's acceptance of circuses
and animal performances has dropped tremendously in recent years, it will be a challenge to
balance such a sad environment with the fun of a Disney film.
With Danny DeVito playing the Ringmaster, we're hoping a bit of levity will be brought
to the story.
It will be interesting to see how the upcoming remake will choose to explore these themes.
Given the impact of the original, we're probably in for a real tear-jerker with Tim Burton
at the helm.
Remaking a Classic Criticism aside, Dumbo is often regarded as
one of the great Disney classics.
Like any other remake, it makes sense that there be some concern over whether the new
version will do the original justice.
However, Disney has a pretty impressive recent track record for remakes.
With the Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast being released to very positive reviews, we
anticipate great things with Dumbo.
Although Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland wasn't a remake of the 1951 Disney classic,
but a reimagining of the original story Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, he does have experience
with remakes.
Although his Charlie and the Chocolate Factory remake was a film of mixed reviews.
That said, Tim Burton's filmography is quite impressive as a whole.
And the unique style he's known for may be the perfect fit for a classic like Dumbo.

Creepy Abandoned Asylum With Dark History (Experiments & Massacre) - Urbex Lost Places Italy - Duration: 10:28.
Previously on Broken Window Theory:
We completed the first of nine full days of urban exploration in Italy.
The last location we visited, was this enormous abandoned factory.
Homeless people and illegal refugees are squatting inside the building complex.
So, we weren't sure if we should enter the site in the first place.
But later we were glad we did it!
We have experienced one of the most stunning natural decay we have seen inside an abandoned factory so far.
But we bet we will even find more impressive spots in those upcoming days.
Meanwhile it's the second day of our Italy adventure and we're heading to the next location.
The Italian photographer Tobi is showing us the way to a very remarkable place.
Today we have a special mission:
We want to explore an abandoned mental asylum which is still partly in use.
Along for the ride are Michael and Bryan from The Proper People
Who invited us to join them for a bit on the journey through Europe.
After several years of vacancy, this area became an impenetrable jungle.
But the thicket is a perfect visual cover, so we can move unseen on the property.
Everywhere we can spot old houses but we don't know yet
which ones are really abandoned and which ones are still in use.
Only from the air the dimensions become apparent.
The over 12-hectare big compound consists of 20 buildings in total.
And most of them are arranged symmetrically.
By now all of them have become overgrown and in a lot of the houses are still furnishings left behind.
Sounds really good, right? But to be honest: This facility wasn't even part of our original route.
We decided to go here spontaneously.
That's why we don't have any expectations at all.
So, let's take a look in the first building.
A haunting atmosphere unfolds in these rooms.
Apparently, this building used to be the cafeteria because this reminds of a kitchen.
The roofed-over inner yard was probably where patients and employees used to eat back then.
Today it's totally overgrown and it became impossible to move here.
But the highlight of this place is the small chapel in our opinion.
Okay, now we are hooked!
The first building was already more impressive than a lot of the abandoned places we have explored in the past.
So, now we want to see and know more of this site.
Already in the 19th century one of the few mental institutions of the region were located in this town.
In the 1930s a new and more modern hospital complex was built.
It's the one we're exploring today.
In the past this facility was ranked as one of the biggest psychiatries in all of Italy.
Even a theater and a church are part of the site and we're going to explore them later as well.
It's alarming to see what was left behind here.
We found miles of paper!
Not in one single room but even in multiple buildings.
Next to finance stuff there are especially medical records full of personal information we shouldn't reveal at all.
But even cases of death are listed there.
According to our sources the clinic was relying on a questionable electroshock therapy.
They even resort to experimental approaches which were totally inhuman from a present-day perspective.
And suddenly it feels like this facility is a place of pain and misery.
Every new building we are entering carries a rather bitter aftertaste to it.
But the worst episode of this place hasn't been told yet.
At the end of World War Two the psychiatric hospital became the scene of a cruel massacre.
A group of communist partisans carried off around 70 fascists soldiers from a prison camp nearby
and brought them to the compound of the asylum.
The staff was forced to leave the property and the resistance fighters started to beat and torture their prisoners.
Some of them were even bound with wire and ran over by trucks on the court repeatedly.
Still today – more than 70 years later – people are commemorating the victims of this terrible massacre.
By now we have seen several of those buildings from the inside.
Apparently, only one of the 20 buildings is still in use today.
But we just realized that one single day isn't enough to explore the whole compound.
Especially when we're planning to visit two more abandoned sites today.
So, that's why we're now limiting ourselves to the highlights of this psychiatry.
In this rather inconspicuous looking building is the theater we were telling you about before.
The entrance in an Art Deco style already looks really promising.
But that's not what we have expected…
This auditorium is the reason why many urban explorers come here in the first place.
The partly collapsed roof is hurrying along the ongoing decay which makes this place the perfect scenery for photo and video shoots.
To our big surprise there was even the historical projector left behind in the building.

After ten days of urban exploration with him, it turned out that we are all on the same wavelength.
So, after careful deliberation, we decided to invite him to join us.

Last but not least we're going to look at the church.
This building is right in the middle of the hospital complex
and all the other houses were arranged around it.
The architecture of the church looks rather modern.
But unfortunately, the place was already exposed to a lot of vandalism.
This abandoned asylum is a very impressive place with a moving history.
Mentally ill patients were treated under horrible conditions with experimental approaches.
Due to the cruel therapies some of the employees were turning against the director of this facility.
Until 1991 the area was used as a hospital and then shut down for good.
But as a psychiatry this place was only in use until 1978.
Because then the Basaglia Law became effective.
After the catastrophic conditions in nearly all of the Italian mental houses became public,
all of them were closed down.
Since then several old asylums have been rotting away in Italy.
On our journey through the country we are going to explore three more of such structures.
And every single one of them has its own horrible story to tell.

10 Scary Dark Web Mystery Box Openings By YouTubers - Duration: 12:50.
Most people understandably want nothing to do with the dark web, but for those who are
curious, there's a way to order anonymous mystery boxes.
What's inside some of these boxes can be potentially dangerous or even incriminating
at times, so if you still want to order one, don't say I didn't warn you.

joseph widner opens his dark web mystery box and immediately comes face to face with two
creepy dolls.
Inside of a grey plastic bag he also finds an old beat-up hammer.
It looks well-used, though for what I can't tell – hopefully not on people.
But, then worst of all, in another grey plastic bag, joseph finds a sharp instrument that
has almost certainly seen foul play one way or another.
The screwdriver is covered in hair and wet with an off-color liquid.
It may or may not have been staged, but I personally think that joseph should have contacted
the police just to be on the safe side.

A YouTuber named qbanguy receives a deep web mystery box with a pile of old electronics
inside.
He notices an outdated cassette player with headphones, so he puts them on and hears a
woman saying the same thing over and over again in a different language.
Listen to this part and let me know if you can translate.
Something about the woman's tone sounds menacing to me, almost as if she is making
a twisted prediction.
If you speak the language, please let me know if I am right.

ThatGuyAaron has a hundred dollars to blow so he orders a deep web mystery box to see
what he can find.
Inside the box is a typed note suggesting that he made a mistake ordering this box,
and things just get weirder from there.
Aaron slowly begins pulling out items that, when put together, recreate the scene of a
horrible atrocity.
Duct tape, surgical gloves, zip-tie cuffs, and an old hand-turned screw that people would
use instead of an electric drill are all found inside.
Then there's this quick old videoclip of a female stranger.
Something about this short video feels very dark and sinister.
Could the girl seen here also be the same person who these instruments were later used
on?
I guess that staging all of this would not be that hard.

Alex Meiner pops off the top of his dark web mystery and receives a handwritten warning.
To paraphrase, it says that life is a dirty mystery and you never know what you are touching.
As for the weird drawing beneath it, your guess is as good as mine.
Alex finds an old compact disc and quietly sets it aside.
Then he finds this weird leaky bag full of white powder.
If you have any idea what this is, let me know.
The next object almost certainly confirms my suspicions.
Covered in the mysterious white powder is this weird tool marked "biohazard".
Later, when Alex plays the CD, this is what he hears.
Listen to this and tell me if you can hear a voice say something like "I see you".
And leave me a best guess as to what this all means.

Ali H claims to have bought this mystery box for a thousand dollars.
The bottom of the box is covered with paper towels so he can't see what's underneath.
He absentmindedly reaches straight into the box without a second thought, a decision he
soon regrets.
Ali H is pricked by a strange needle that's tangled in tufts of foreign hair.
The rest of the items appear to be weird chemicals that Ali H can't identify.
By the end of the video his finger is throbbing and he knows he needs medical attention quick.
I didn't see any actual liquids inside of the syringe, which is good, but I guess there
could still be some sort of contagion on the tip of needle itself.
I was thinking he should have washed his hands immediately, but be sure to let me know if
there are some extra steps Ali H could have taken to save his health.
Ali H made this video in August of 2018, and at the moment, no update has been provided.

A YouTuber named TAIJAEI & CO. is sifting through a deep web box when she comes across
what appears to be some sort of surgical instrument with strange markings, though I don't know
what they could mean, if anything at all.
I also don't know what they were used for, only that they leave a greenish stain on TAIJAEI's
gloves which I hope is nothing toxic.
She changes gloves and moves on to the next object, an icepick covered in red at the tip.
I'm hoping that it's just rust and not what I think it is.
Let me know what you think.
My only question, besides what this could be, is who put it in the box and why.

ROBERT REDDICK has been waiting two weeks for this day to come, but now the deep web
box has finally arrived, and he is incredibly nervous.
He contemplates not opening the box at all at first, then Robert calls over some friends
and the three of them dive in.
The first thing they notice is a weird stain on the inside of the box, followed by an impossibly
pungent smell that nearly bowls them over.
They put on some gloves and keep going.
Tucked beneath some bubble wrap are two handwritten letters that say "I'm sorry" repeatedly.
A third letter says a single word, "shinigami",which I looked up the meaning of.
This is the name for ancient supernatural creatures who were thought to shepherd humans
to the afterlife in Japan mythology.
There's a lot of weird stuff left to pick through, like a fishbowl that's filled with
a bunch of thumbtacks and a single red lighter.
There's also a fourth note waiting inside.
I'm skipping past some items here, but eventually they come across a blank letter at the bottom
of the box with a rather creepy hidden message.
They do not heed the warning and eventually happen upon a large plastic bag with something
decomposing inside.
It's hard to say whether these are just props or a true deep web mystery waiting to
be unraveled.
I think the three friends appear very creeped out by the end of the video, so it's probably
real, but I'd like to know what you think of their reactions.

This YouTuber isn't sure if deep web mystery boxes are real or not, so he buys as many
of them as he can as an experiment of sorts.
Sure enough, some of them don't have anything weird inside at all, while others look as
though they were packaged by a complete psycho.
Take this dirty stuffed animal that's been stuffed with even dirtier stuffed animals,
for instance.
In the very last one is a pill container, presumably for smuggling purposes.
The creepiest package of all is full of abused dolls.
It looks like it was made by someone with serious problems.
You can see how they cut off the doll's fingers one by one here.
Then they made this children's pop-up book filled with occult symbology.
They are about to throw the whole box away when suddenly a yellow Teletubby doll with
a burnt face grabs their attention.
Listen to the sound it makes and tell me how this noise is even possible.
At this point he's seen enough and decides not to open any more boxes.
The only problem is at least several more are heading to his address in the mail . . .

Jaskinho and a friend decide to open a deep web box in a public place just in case they
need to quickly get help.
Inside they find a tiny clown with a creepy melody.
A short while later they find this religious necklace, almost as if it was placed there
to ward off evil.
Next is a series of old photographs with x's over them.
It's like they've been hunted or something and then crossed out one by one.
I'm curious as to what this device is used for.
It looks similar to something I've seen people in other videos use to communicate
with spirits.
Then again, it kind of looks like it could even be used to measure radiation.
Jammed inside of a glass bottle is a baby doll that's covered in all red.
Its head is busted open and inside of the red gelatinous substance is a key for a box.
If this box is real, then I think whoever sent it has a real penchant for children's
belongings.
Perhaps everything in the box was taken from the sender's own personal collection.

Bayz TV orders a mystery box off the dark web and eagerly opens it, never expecting
to find a huge blade and evidence that someone's life was taken.
He then finds this SD card and decides to watch a video.
Bayz TV doesn't know what to do next and decides to end the video.
The next night, a man in black shows up at his door.
He eventually answers the door and is actually arrested for his purchase.
I'm not sure what happened next, if this is even real, or if Bayz TV is even legally
allowed to give an update while under investigation.
