Photoshoot diary ǀ Day in the life of a fashion designer ǀ AD ǀ Justine Leconte - Duration: 15:19.Hi everyone, it's Justine.
Earlier this year I said that I was learning more about photography and about how to create
good photos.
This video is the story of the full process of how I learned that, from learning the actual
skills necessary, to planning and executing an entire photoshoot.
You will see behind the scenes on the photoshoot day, and you will see the final results, which
is the photo.
I wanted a creative image of the jewelry collection that I designed.
Not something on a white background, like on a web shop.
This, we have everything we need already.
I wanted a better, more creative image.
Product photography is challenging because you're talking about very small pieces,
small products, and mine are in metal so they reflect light.
First I learned about the tools to get the technical part down, so to speak.
So that it's out of the way when I actually start creating images.
I watched tutorials on Skillshare.
Some of you may know that website already.
And I started with the basics.
Things like fundamentals of DSLR photography.
That's a good one to start with because you see examples, and he really says "This
photo was shot with shutter speed bla bla bla, aperture bla bla bla, ISO so and so.
If you change the aperture, this happens.
If you change the ISO, that happens."
I'm a visual person, so it helps me to be able to see the results and compare.
Then I dove into the specifics of creating flat lays, which is something that I could
reproduce and practice with pretty much alone, at home.
And I said, "Let's try and do a good flat lay of that jewelry.
With the props, with the lighting, whole program".
Then I thought, "Wait, if I'm gonna do a photoshoot, why not do a big one?" And so
one flat lay ended up being five completely different creative concepts and the mini-photoshoot
that I wanted to do became a full, full day.
No matter which item you're taking a photo of, I think that planning the composition
ahead of the shooting day is absolutely essential.
Each flat lay tutorial that you'll find online has a huge chapter on laying out the
things on the table, thinking it through before anyone even grabs a camera.
So I sketched what I wanted, I looked for props.
I tested them.
I got more props.
And in the end, I also built some of the props I used.
For instance, I found slices of wood.
I like it because the wood is warm; it has a warm color.
And it has texture on the outside.
But they were too new.
So I stained, I dyed the wood slices with tea.
Ahhh!
My tea was Darjeeling tea, so I'll let you guess how many sponges of Darjeeling you need
to get the effect that you would get with actual black tea?
And the answer is "It doesn't work.
I ended up using coffee."
I also machine-washed a specific thick paper, to give it texture, relief, see what would happen
to the color.
Thinking how can this possibly survive being washed, but the instructions clearly said
that the paper was water-resistant, so I tried.
First I tried to get it into the machine, and then I added detergent to see what happens.
On the day of the photoshoot, I was super prepared.
I was bulletproof.
I also think it's the only way to get five photos down in one single day.
You need to test, rehearse everything before.
You can't guess and experiment on that day.
Like, you need to know pretty much what the final result is gonna look like before you
even start.
I was trying to put a natural-looking hand.
That's still a bit more…
Uh-huh…
This corner…
Good thing that I'm wearing a dress.
You see the edges?
No, I'm fine with cropping.
Yeah.
The two little hands are here in the middle so the most important is that it's not like
this.
Yeah.
I need to change my seat.
Yeah.
This pose was a lot harder than I thought.
Like I needed to hold my hands super high above my head.
I was literally seated under the table.
You have to make it more…
This hand is not elegant.
The right hand higher.
There.
This has to be more elegant.
More elegant?
Extreme sport.
I'm like "Hold.
Like… do like this and look natural."
This one is the warmest, like right now I'm super tanned, so I think this one works better,
the apricot one.
That's also why I did my nails lighter.
Ok.
Here the contrast is better if I'm wearing silver, so it matches my undertone, because
I want all the backgrounds to be completely different in the five photos.
If I do like this, you don't see the hole.
I love the contrast.
The second photo was meant to be more graphic and also more colorful than the first one.
I just wanted to make it a bit brighter.
If you're going to do a pause, can you cream your fingers?
I think I've never been that tanned since I've lived in Germany.
The lower one I didn't touch I think.
But I will clean it again…
You will clean it again?
Thank you.
I can see everything.
There's some wind coming.
Do it again.
I made it darker.
Mhm.
The sharpness, I think it's sharper here.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's better.
The contrast is better.
I think just a normal T-shirt is not elegant enough, very basic.
And the blue one?
If I'm wearing a bandeau?
And you cut it out so I'm wearing nothing?
Yeah, that would be even better, actually.
We can do both.
Ok.
Yeah?
So this needs to be really black, yeah?
Yes.
And the back also.
Does this look really black?
It should look really, really black.
The contrast is great.
My collarbones need to be at the same height.
Like, it should almost be like, in the same method.
Yes.
So, we have two options here, black and white and color.
In the end this photo became two different photos, because I wanted to try it also from
the back, with a necklace worn the other way around.
And that's only possible if you plan more than one outfit, so I actually had four different
dresses and tops, and different necklines with me in my suitcase on that day.
That's the muscle?
Yeah.
There's nothing there.
Could you do another position with your arms, perhaps…
There is good.
This is a lot more green than I thought.
Yeah…
I mean this is the thing you're gonna see on the photo.
You know?
Cause also it's so big.
It's very present.
That's true.
Or I take just the little ones… the mini ones.
Like one bit like this.
Yeah, that would be better.
When you build houses as an architect, like you make a miniature city, for instance…
Oh, that's what it is…
You use this for the stones and everything.
Like those that you find next to a river, you know?
You want to make one?
I just don't want the props to be too big because the pieces are so small.
So the props should not shift the focus away from the jewelry, you know?
I also can go towards the right angle, doesn't matter.
But you need to change the light as well.
Ok.
Just turn.
Careful, careful.
Yeah.
Take the fabric.
Can you see where this starts, here?
Yes, I can.
No…
It should be behind the… behind the box.
I wanted it to be hidden by this box with the angle.
This is actually the flat lay that I wanted to do originally, before I got a little bit
carried away and turned that into a huge project.
Yeah, it looks good.
I'm gonna change the position.
I think this is a bit too much on the…
If you do a square, I think the jewelry is a little bit too much…
I see what you're saying…
On the top.
So we'd perhaps…
Yeah.
We can move that a little bit.
I think you can't see those.
Yeah.
This needs to change.
So…
Can we take another branch?
Very patient.
Uh-huh.
To do this job.
It's the art of flat lays.
Yeah.
You think it's easy… but it takes hours.
This is the result of the washed paper.
Now it looks old and used, which is exactly what I wanted.
Last shot.
This and this.
So in the end, I used coffee instead of tea.
Cause it's…
This is with tea.
This is with coffee.
And this is the original.
Lavender, dried.
Old books, with a nice texture and a nice cover, and this, which I found in an antique
shop.
Ok.
It seems that it's more difficult sometimes to make it look messy.
Yeah, it's harder.
It's harder, right?
Yeah.
Especially in a flat lay where you're planning everything.
And doing like… thinking it through in advance.
And then you put the props and it looks all symmetrical and geometric and you're like
"ugh".
Ok.
You know, actually, this…
This lavender thing was supposed to be olive branches.
Oh, ok.
I couldn't find any.
I went through all of Berlin.
So I took these ones, and in the end, nobody will know.
This photo, the last one, was meant to be completely different again.
You see it's afternoon light.
It's a completely different atmosphere and a different mood.
Even though both are pretty much from the top and pretty much like flat lays, this one
is about someone who just took off their jewelry, the pieces, and just let them fall onto the
bedside table.
Next to the book.
Next to an old, loved photo.
And they left.
They didn't think about what the layout would look like.
Everything should be like a little bit covered, yeah?
Yeah.
And also, random.
Yeah…
Like not so organized.
Is it too organized?
No, I think it's better.
It's like a warm light, but not too yellow, right?
Yeah.
Exactly.
But you can tell it's the afternoon?
Yeah.
Yeah.
In the end, you see that the five photos are completely different, and we've got options.
We've got vertical, horizontal and square ones.
Which is super practical to play with on social media, on my website, and you'll also see
more on my Instagram.
Actually, by the time you get this video online, published, I will have the final photos ready
to be shown.
Now I'm very curious to know, first, which photo, which layout, which mood, is your favorite
out of the five and why?
Second question…
Which one do you think best matches the original mood of the jewelry?
If you've seen my previous video where I explain the inspiration for this collection,
I think that one photo out of the five clearly is the closest to that concept, but I'm
curious to see what you guys think.
I'd like to thank Skillshare for sponsoring this video.
I learned the skills in their tutorials.
They made it possible for me to shoot that project with a team, and to even hire somebody
to document and film the whole day so that you guys could see it as well.
Skillshare is a membership-based website where you can learn a ton of different skills, including
photography, but not only…
There are many, many more things that you can learn on there.
And if you're interested in testing it, trying it out, here is my code for you to
get two months for free.
The first 500 people who register will get it.
I will put this link also down below in the description for you.
Did you enjoy being able to see behind the scenes on the day of the photoshoot?
If yes, thumbs up.
Thank you very much.
I know that my creative job is not like a regular office job, and I get tons of questions
about it.
In the future, I will do my best to take you with me more often, especially with fun days
and projects like this one because it's visually, I think, interesting to see, so
that you understand what I do all day when I'm not filming videos for Youtube.
See you next week in the next one.
Take care.
Bye.

Pop it over there as well because those favorites have withstood the test of time and I'm still loving them

also comment below if you are notification squad and you're early
I am increase currently when you guys are seeing this
So hopefully I have a bunch of cool pictures up go check if I don't then scold me in the comments
I don't know I deserve it
If you are new it to my favorites videos basically how this is gonna work is I'm gonna go through a few skincare things
I think I have a couple haircare things in this video 3 makeup products. I'm loving a few clothing accessories
I'm loving them to go through some fun stuff like music and a couple food things and whatnot
So I really like sharing with you guys new things that I'm discovering
So if you enjoy these videos, please let me know in the comments so that I know to keep doing them
Yeah, so let's go ahead and get started. We're gonna kick this off with skincare first
I am forever obsessed with this facial facial wash first up. I'm obsessed with this
I'm not even pretending I'm obsessed with this face wash that is from lush several months ago
I was a Kinsey in store and she was talking about this and I got a little sample of it
It was amazing and I made it last as long as I could I had to go back and get the real deal
So this is their herbalism face wash as you can see. It's like a green solid in here
so you kind of just like scoop out a little chunk and then put it under water and then just
Go to tell mosh in your face
It says this is a face and body cleanser gentle herbal cleanser with ground almonds to exfoliate and rice vinegar to mop up
Excess oil I have oily skin. So I love this
I can't necessarily speak to this affecting breakouts in any way
But basically what I do with this is I keep it in the shower
So I have a separate face wash I use in my sink area every morning every time I shower I give my face another wash
With this after I wash my face with this and wash it off my skin feels softer than it feels
Any other time like it doesn't feel like it's just my skin. It feels like there's like this light sounds great
But like it's like coated in this like smooth something
I don't know how to other than that all around just a big fan Alex made this one there
She is another in the shower product
I'm loving is the gloss a body hero body wash pick this up from the glossier store here in LA having not really known anything
About it just because I want to want to try more products from glossier. Yeah, their packaging is just cute
So that's what reeled me and they're very clever people there. Now. I really love this. So it's a daily oil wash
So you pump it out into your hand. It's like a
Oily shower gel consistency and you just lather it up it kind of
Transitions into a foam and then I I don't wash my face. I don't know why I did that
I just use it as a body wash has a great scent as well
At least my skin very moisturized because some other like random shower gels that I just like
Get in my obsession from time to time that I use
sometimes have like
fragrances in them that like burn my legs if I recently shaved or like do weird stuff to my legs that are not poor they
Like dry out my skin on my arms and whatnot
And this does not either of those also our trash is getting picked up right now. So we're gonna pause
Alright, we're back from our intermission. So next up
I have seen some other people talk about this in their favorites videos
And I think rightfully so it is the fresh black tea kombucha facial treatment essence, which is a mouthful of a name
But basically I didn't know anything about this. I went to a fresh event Oh in LA a couple months ago
They're giving these don't basically as those described to me is that this is a great product for at the end of the day
After you've taken off your makeup washed your face done and your toner
I don't know whatever you need to do is kind of like the final step and you just apply this all over your face
I think you're supposed to use like a cotton pad or something
But I don't like doing that because product I feel like gets absorbed more into that than it does into my face
so to make this last longer
I just wash my hands and then literally just like pour some out into my hand and apply that everywhere
So this is great for getting the like last amount of like
Dirt or makeup or whatever off of your face as well as it's also good for anti-aging
Who is texting me? I feel like it definitely does brighten my skin it smells kind of kombucha tea which
What makes sense and lastly for skincare and probably seen if you follow anyone on YouTube or Instagram?
people using those like nurse Jamie rollers and like Jade rollers and rose quartz rollers and whatever does the actual substance
itself
Do anything. I don't know honestly, I'm skeptical. I don't think so. I can attest that
This is great for like decreasing puffiness on your face
I don't I did that a little bit
But you probably no one can tell I can tell on myself you'll be able to tell on your face
So first of all, I got this one on Nordstrom's website they ship for free
It'll be linked below as all this is is they're literally more trash getting picked up
We're cycling
This one was the cheapest one I could find
those were you're still with me or like what are you talking about a is this morning and night again to decrease puffiness as I
Said in your face really it's good for like lymphatic drainage and whatever about I haven't seen the scientific receipts
So I don't speak to any of that
So how I go about using this is I will apply a serum or moisturizer or whatever
I just kind of
Plop this in between steps in my morning and nighttime skincare routine
And then I use this big side to you're just like rolling upwards
What's good for making your skin like firmer and whatnot
You do it down here work on the double triple quadruple it
I love how the end is a smaller one so you can get in your nose area
You can do this around your eyes or temples. It's just easier to concentrate those smaller areas
So I think SEP really quickly just a couple of hair care items. First of all, this is the dry bard detox dry shampoo
I love it a because it smells like the dry bar if you've ever been to the dry bar
Everything has this magical scent about it. Then nothing else on earth smells like and it just makes me happy
However, also this really is an excellent dry shampoo
I would compare this more along the lines to like a batiste dry shampoo. Then a trust me one cuz Trust mate
Let me know if trust my dry shampoo works for you. It does nothing for me
But with batiste, I really like how it actually is absorbing everything
It leaves my hair like looking volumize dand, like not weighed down and oily. So this has the same effect
I do even like this one more than the batiste win just because I feel like the batiste one kind of like you can get
A lot of product build-up if you're using too much as I feel like really dissolves really gets the job done
Big fan of this dry shampoo, I believe it said Sephora or Nordstrom or something again next up for haircare
I am so excited for this. I might be more excited for this than anything else
I actually learned about this despite being a big rush fan from a random video on Facebook
highlighting these
shampoo bars from lush and I never thought about this before in this video did a great job of presenting this point that is that
Obviously all of us are conscious in this day and age about recycling and trying to cut down like how much waste we're using
Unnecessarily and we all have our like little stainless-steel straws
Now what's striking is how much plastic we throw away from shampoo and conditioner bottles
at least I do and body wash and everything like that and think about how many of those you throw away in a year or
Much less five years or your lifetime. So I had never been presented with the idea of a solid shampoo bar
and basically you just get this wet and you kind of just like
Scrub this everywhere in your hair and wash your hair. Normally I think that's a genius idea you have this involved
This is all the waste which you recycle, obviously
But they all have different benefits and different ingredients
If you go on their website, you can read about all of them
but I just really wanted to highlight this because I think that this is another like
Small step initiative that we could all switch over to next up. I have three makeup items
First of all, I've been loving the Urban Decay setting spray. I actually was not a setting spray user even back like at Coachella
I remember me and Kenzi phoned back
How many she's gonna get so many shout outs in this video can see if you're watching. You're welcome
Just cuz I'm gonna talk about her right in second
But no wait anyways back at Coachella when me and cuz he filmed get ready with me video
I was like using your setting spray because I don't I didn't even have any then I started using it and I was like wow
I think this does make a difference. My favorite are all the Urban Decay ones. I can't tell the difference between all of them
I think they're all pretty comparable
This is just the all nighter long-lasting makeup setting spray up to 16 hour wear lightweight temperature control technology. I
Don't know. It just works. Also if you know of a mattifying setting spray, that will be clutch next
I wanted to talk about this Burberry highlight, which I talked about and a makeup tutorial. Do I do makeup tutorials? Not really?
It's the Burberry highlight
It looks like this is such a pretty color
Insert a couple photos where it's really glowy the quote Jeanine from a white fox event. Where at the other day it was sunny
I was standing outside on one side of the street. She went to the other side with Shelby or Adrian
to take a photo
she walked back over and she said I could see your highlight from across the street and no one has ever said that before and
That was the first day. I was really going in hard with this highlighter. I like it. I love it. It's great
Very very pigmented. I feel like this is a good color for my skin
I'm definitely more of like a pinky light natural highlight color than a gold
I don't think that looks natural and then lastly for makeup the concealer. I pretty much completely switched over to lately
Is this Neutrogena concealer? I found a fresh one because so I could read this. It's the hydro boost hydrating concealer
It works to refresh thirsty dry skin with hydrating core smooth and buildable coverage
100% just retweet all of that previously
I was using like the tart shape tape concealer for like highlighting just like under eyes and just like little places
I need to cover up or I was using the Too Faced Born This Way one and basically liquid concealers for me since my skin
Is really oily
It's just I've learned is a bad combination for like throughout the day and making my makeup last so what I love about this
It's not like what it's a solid you just kind of like swipe on where you want it
I still go with my Beauty Blender and just like blend it out. This is such a hydrating concealer without being oily
It's very weightless concealer
I use the shade light for kind of like my highlight areas
But also just concealing things and this isn't like the fullest fullest coverage concealer
It does do a really good job. But if there's like some big going on like there was this morning
I still just revert back to my benefit point concealer because that is the best full coverage one
Then I've ever used big fan of this you get it strike starting it at Target. You can get a lot of places
very cheap, so
Recommend sounds like someone's cars breaking down outside my house now, of course next up
We are making progress I have for clothing items No, all right
Technically six because I wanted to show the ones on my body first of all the necklace department
I'm loving this lightning bolt choker that I got from a place on Instagram called the wrapped wrist never website, too
But I found them on Instagram
so
I have this in gold and silver
Secondly, since I'm wearing it cuz you will get yet another shout out for her merch. This is my favorite item from her new collection
They're all like revival tees type thing. It's really cool for yourself t-shirt. I've been living in this
Yeah, so her merch will be linked. So now for the actual four things next up in jewelry
I talked about this in my haul video I did recently and that is just generally all princess Polly jewelry
So, for example, I have this necklace that I plan to be wearing a lot in Greece
It's just great with any like summery dress or summer top or even over just like a white t-shirt to sort of spice it up
A little bit they have a loss of jewelry on their website
and basically I'm just very impressed with the quality and with the fact that it's keeping its color grand Emily had it for about a
Month, but I've been wearing these a lot this pair of earrings. That's like a little hoop followed by this like cross charm
I've been wearing these all the time. They've just become some staples to me this summer
Just thought I would give them another little shout out because I'm impressed next up. I have talked about this in some vlogs
I can't remember if it was on this channel or on my vlog channel, but it is just this amazing pair of joggers
That's from Urban Outfitters. First. I got these black ones
They're definitely the ones I wear the most by show you the details on this pair because you can see better
So I do have them in black then I went back and got them in this dark green color
Which I love I feel like Kim Possible if I were to wear this with a black shirt
And then I also got this like nude pair. Basically, it's just a stretchy ankle this material. I don't know how to describe it
It's not sweat pant like it's not regular jogger. Like this isn't cotton. I feel like this is like a
Rayon polyester material now at least for the comfort be it for the price point especially for Urban Outfitters
I want to see these are like
$39
Additionally because these can really be dressed up or dressed down and I'm very impressed because despite the fabric being really thin
There's no compromise with them being see through it all even with the light colors
Like there's no cellulite popping through you don't see who do you think through these is what I'm trying to say
It's a very like smooth sleek. Look regardless of color. Some of you guys are gonna relate to that and lastly
I just want to talk about two pairs of shoes. I've been wearing all the time first up for my Air Force Ones
These are so so comfortable. Just generally I've been on like a white shoes kick and secondly in the sandal department
I've been loving these Steve Madden like camel upper sandals. They have about a one-inch platform as well
And yeah again just kind of straight to the point
That's it for the main categories of this video and I want to talk about a couple food things in music
So first of all drinking it right now, let's drinking it during our trash intermission
I've been really feeling not necessarily even just from press Juicery
These are from pressed Juicery. But this is their vanilla almond milk. It has almond States vanilla and sea salt. It's so good
I love these and la creación has these at home in North Carolina clean juice has like their little almond milk or coffee milk
Or whatever. I don't know
Please just have lots of variations of the same thing and they just taste really good
Lastly in food section has to do with water and so something I've been doing lately
that is a
Favorite of mine and that's been really getting me to drink a lot more water lately is that I was getting tired of lemon water
It was nice for a while. It kept me interested lately. I've been putting frozen berries in like my water bottles that morning
I'll put a small handful of frozen berries into my water and I'll just drink from that all day
So when I drink the water fill it up keep filling it up keep drinking it
it tastes so good the berries really infuse the water with a good flavor all day and
Lastly my favorite part of the video if you made it this far a comment below
first of all
You should
on Spotify because then you can see all my playlists categorized by like
Mood and fiving situation and everything six songs in particular that I've really been listening to like crazy are the following
Next I've been liking this
Next
This song I thought I hated at first means to be more like what is this in the car?
And then it gets to a certain point. It's a good like car jam song
This is can we were like what is good?
Again Spotify linked to pillow so that is it for this favourites video
Please let me know if you guys like seeing these also when you guys are seeing this
I'm currently in Greece on a log Travis box. I did I love Greece and my favorite place on Oliver
So if you care whatsoever about seeing my blogs from crease
I'm going to have my vlog channel linked below
Also thinking about doing an office of the week in Greece if you care about that, let me know
Okay, and that is all I will see all of you guys in my next video

Celebrating Fashion Freedom with Entrepreneur, Shinta Nurfauzia - Duration: 1:47.Hi, my name is Shinta Nurfauzia, you can call me Shinta.
I'm the co-founder and CEO of Lemonilo.
In my opinion, freedom of fashion is the freedom to express yourself through your own style.
For me, fashion freedom, is not just about feeling good.
So, fashion freedom, first of all, like,
I think everybody wants to be fashionable,
wants to be, you know, be able to be stylish.
But it's not like...
we have to ruin the environment, or like you know, buying things excessively.
Because I think, right now, part of the freedom, and to maintain our freedom
we have to think about the environment as well.
I really think fast fashion is one of the things that,
make our environment so unsustainable like now.
It relates to,
hy I decided to have a healthy lifestyle.
You can say that my personal style is "simple".
Please don't get me wrong, I like to be fashionable as well.
But the difference is, I don't like to spend too much time to shop.
I really believe that in order for me to be happy with the way I dress,
I don't have to burden the world.
I don't have to burden the environment.
So, just keeping it simple, including,
now there're a lot of ways to be fashionable.
Just borrow, or just buy the basic stuff.
So part of fashion freedom, I think,
we have to be very very conscious about what happened with the environment.
