The Trump administration just wiped out even more protections for LGBT citizens, this time

with a directive that affects millions of people.

Betsy DeVos has thrown out multiple investigations into schools discriminating against queer

students.

Lambda Legal has forced a county to stop withholding medical care to trans employees.

And California just voted to end ex-gay abuse for good.

A new directive from the Trump administration gives federal contractors permission to discriminate

against queer employees, affecting the employment security of millions of people who work for

contractors.

The document explicitly says that it supersedes employment protections established under Obama,

and allows contractors to cite religious freedom to fire people they think might be gay.

This comes after the White House promised to leave nondiscrimination policies intact.

So if for some reason you're still wondering if you can trust the administration to protect

queer citizens … come on.

Elsewhere in the administration, an investigation has revealed that Betsy DeVos has thrown out

at least five investigations into school discrimination against queer students.

The students had asked the Department of Education to look into cases where they were denied

access to school facilities, but the cases have either been dismissed or simply ignored.

There's good news in New York, where Lambda Legal just prevailed in ending a policy that

withheld medical care from trans patients.

Oswego County's policy was to deny transition-related care, even for procedures that were covered

for cisgender patients.

After Lambda filed a lawsuit, the county reversed course and will no longer discriminate.

And even more good news in California: The Senate has passed a bill to protect everyone

in California -- not just minors -- from ex-gay scammers.

Under the new law, anyone promising to be able to pray away the gay would be guilty

of fraud.

The bill goes to the Assembly for another vote.

California was the first state to ban abusive ex-gay practices against minors, and now it

could become the first state to ban it for everyone else.

If this bill passes, it would be a huge step forward for protecting queer citizens, and

it's thanks in large part to the advocacy of Equality California.
