I cheated a wee bit because I saw ones on the way in.
I'm looking for...
A Leonard Cohen record.
Like, people use the word "artist" very loosely,
but I feel like he's an actual poet
that sets it to music and.
I don't know, I just love him very much, so.
Okay, I know it's crappy to choose a Greatest Hits,
but because it has like, all those on it.
Suzanne and So Long Marianne are my two, two favorites.
- I'm gonna go with this.
Wonderful piece of work by Mr. Iggy Pop.
This was made I think just before
Bowie made Low, I think.
Iggy and Bowie were hangin' about all the time in Berlin and
causing riots and just being
awesome and artistically out there.
Notably opens with Sister Midnight, which
there's actually another version of that song,
Lodger by David Bowie, it's basically exactly the same
backing track, but he's kinda
reinterpreted the music.
I prefer Iggy's version to David, even though
David is the man, because it's darker and weirder, and
that's always better in my opinion.
- This is a good one.
Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails.
This is another one of like the key records in terms of
making me interested in being in a band and
teaching me what synthesizers were
and how to process guitars.

- I'm, I'm looking for a Nick Cave record.
Like, he's always been somebody I really
love in terms of
like how he writes songs and how he tells stories, like
there's so much imagery in the way that he writes, but
again I feel like he seems like the kind of person that
he just, he doesn't create things based on
what he thinks people think he should be doing or,
it's more like, you feel like he just
has to make certain things and,
such a multi-talented man.
I love his prose, I love the score work he does.
I love the whole thing.
So, two really uplifting artists so far.
- This is actually the best album ever.
This is the album that made me want to be in a band.
This is the band that made me
want to be interested in music in any way.
- So this one is kind of more of a curve ball,
compared to these last two.
Not a curve ball in general, but.
I love Beyonce, man, I love her.
I don't care what anybody says, I don't care.
Like, I can combat all these arguments, 'cause,
like everything, like the rating,
her performance on it, the imagery that was around it,
what she was talking about,
I think was really important, and there's nobody else,
I don't know, like,
what other artist could have made a statement like that?
- So this is an album called Surfer Rosa by The Pixies.
And I remember driving,
like the ride back from school with the headphones on
hearing this for the first time and you know,
Steve Albini produced and,
just like this raw drum sound.
And I became a massive fan of this band.
- And I know where my final one is,
'cause I saw it on the way in.
This.
Talking about awesome women who've done awesome stuff
and make awesome music,
Debbie Harry, she, I loved her when I was fifteen
and I love her now.
You see all these other boys that were in all these
bands that we listened to when we were growing up, and
I really loved like, Jimmy Eat World and Foo Fighters
and stuff like that, but
we weren't really seeing any women doing that at that level
and that was really inspiring to me,
and I feel like this is my favorite Blondie record.
And one iconic cover, too.

- First record I picked out was Surfer Rosa by The Pixies.
Kinda changed my life as a teenager,
I'd never heard sounds like that before.
Iggy, The Idiot, hanging about with Bowie at the time,
they were working together, they were sharing like
instrumental bits and generally being awesome.
Lots of early sampling on this album by Depeche Mode,
Black Celebration, this,
kind of best of John Peel collection from The Smiths.
It was a great entry point to the band,
like if you've never heard them before.
- This is actually essentials,
called the Downward Spiral, it's by Nine Inch Nails.
Followed up by the undisputed best album of all time,
the reason why I'm in a band, the reason why I'm a musician
is this album, this is like
my most important record ever made.
This is another big like learning album for me.
This is how I learned how to
understand the value of music that appears to be simple
on the surface but is actually really complex and really
esoteric in ways that you can't tell until you've
really listened into it.
Here's my favorite album of last year,
which, these two know I never shut up about.
- Every day, every day he's like,
have you heard the Alvvays album?
Have you heard the Alvvays album?
- I think I must have heard it 50 times?
I'm actually serious.
- Nick Cave, the last Nick Cave record,
obviously is a really harrowing listen but I feel like
they're so amazing, he's such an amazing lyricist,
we all love what he does and
this was a really special work of art.
I know it's a bit tacky to choose a Greatest Hits
but I couldn't decide,
I was standing there being like, which one do I want?
Which record one do I want?
So I was like, just think he,
Leonard Cohen's such an amazing lyricist.
He's a true poet in the real sense of the word, and
I've always, ever since I discovered him I've loved him, so.
Parallel Lines by Blondie.
I love most Blondie stuff, but
this is my favorite one.
And I love that they're playing on the idea that
you know, to be a woman in that position,
she has to be like this badass bone-breaker,
and she's wearing a T dress and,
she is a badass bone-breaker so it's pretty cool.
Finally, the pièce de résistance, Lemonade.
Sorry, eh, Lemonade, which is one of my favorite
records of the last couple years.
I just love Beyonce to the end of the earth,
I think, she's really,
I don't know, I think we'll all look back on this time
and think that this was a really brave,
important piece of art, and
I'm just here for it, I'm here for political Beyonce
all day, all day.

(CNN)There will be a race within a race at Saturdays Epsom Derby and one of them could be worth up to £50 million ($66.6M).
Follow @cnnsport The Derby, first staged in 1780, is the pinnacle of European Flat racing and comes with a hefty dose of folklore and a chunky first prize of £920,000 ($1.23M).
But thats just small beer compared with the riches on offer for the winner at stud.
And if that winner happens to be the favorite Saxon Warrior, it could unlock a treasure trove for owner Coolmore, the Ireland-based breeding operation which has Ballydoyle as its racing arm.
A Derby win to back up the 2,000 Guineas victory in May, allied to his exceptional pedigree out of Japanese Triple Crown winner Deep Impact and champion mare Maybe, could render Saxon Warrior virtually priceless.
Youve got the odds-on favorite Saxon Warrior, who is already worth a fortune, and youve got the rest of the field, Tom Goff, of leading consultancy Blandford Bloodstock, told CNN Sport.
Read More Whatever the rest of them do theyre worth £10-15 million but Saxon Warrior is such an exceptionally well-bred horse that if he wins hes probably worth in excess of £40-50 million. Saxon Warrior is favorite to add the Derby to his 2,000 Guineas win.
Should he add the St Leger in September to become the first horse since Nijinsky in 1970 to win British racings Triple Crown, he would seal his status as an utterly unique racehorse, adds Goff.
He has a very strong blend of Danehill, Galileo and Deep Impact in him, said his trainer Aidan OBrien, who has saddled six Derby winners.
Those three strong traits make him a horse we havent had before, so he is very different. But should another horse triumph over the tough mile-and-a-half Derby course on the Epsom Downs south of London -- a test which requires both speed and stamina -- a lucrative career at stud still beckons.

The heart of Jewish worship is a prayer referred to as the Amidah or standing prayer.
In fact reciting the Amidah was synonymous with prayer itself to the
ancient rabbis and is sometimes referred to in the Talmud simply as Tefillah
the Amidah is the main course of Jewish prayer everything else is an appetizer or a side dish
The Amidah is a chain of short blessings
that are recited together while standing quietly at every occasion of formal
Jewish worship although the Amidah is a prayer recited silently while standing
in place were citing the Amidah is hardly a stationary experience and many
worshipers develop unique ways to move their bodies while reciting the words of
the Amidah some rush through the words at only a few minutes while others stand
and quiet dialogue with God oblivious to the clock steadily marking the passage of time
The Talmudic rabbis provided guidance for the basic structure of the Amidah
The first three blessings should be occasions for praise of God the final
three blessings comprise our expressions of gratitude as we take a leave of God's
presence and the blessings in the middle are a chance to make specific requests
the blessings in-between the first three and the final three blessings change
according to the season
during the week day 13 specific requests comprise the
bulk of the Amidah these requests focus on practical needs of health and the
ability to make wise choices
as well as more lofty yearnings for redemption and
a world transformed by justice
On Shabbat and holidays when we pause to rest
those 13 requests are replaced by one blessing that focuses on the sacred
nature of the day
Historically the prayer leader prayed out loud on behalf
of the community
today individuals have a chance to personalize their silent
Amidah while joining the congregation in the communal Amidah
although there are many different versions of the Amidah in use among
contemporary Jewish communities they all share this overall structure and they
share most words in common too.
Once printed in a prayer book, the words of the Amidah
cannot change but it is appropriate to add one's own personal
words of prayer at the end of the Amidah or even in the middle of the Amidah when
our own personalized prayers correspond to a theme of one of the standardized blessings,

around us and its distractions and to use the words of the Amidah to remind us
what is truly important.

What If Nyogtha Was Real? - Duration: 5:20.
Hello and welcome back to Life's Biggest Questions, I'm Ron McKenzie-Lefurgey.
Today we'll be continuing down the disturbing road of the Cthulhu Mythos.
Nyogtha is a Great Old One first appearing in The Salem Horror by Henry Kuttner.
This Haunter of the Red Abyss is as mysterious as it is disturbing, but what if it actually
existed?
Let's explore.

Now get ready, it's time to ask the question: What if Nyogtha was Real?
Unfortunately, descriptions of Nyogtha are extremely vague.
It seems to be a giant beast covered in tentacles, living beneath the earth, and has been known
to influence happenings on Earth.
Sadly, while there have been a number of depictions, they tend to look at the various rites of
summoning and banishment, without actually highlighting specific powers of the beast.
However, many believe that it uses its tentacles in order to manipulate people and objects
around it, and this is the interpretation that we'll look into today.
It should be mentioned that some believe Nyogtha to simply be an avatar of the Great Old One
Nyarlathotep, but this video will assume it to be a separate entity.
With that out of the way, let's hop in.
First of all, I don't know about you, but this idea of a creature manipulating its surroundings
with far-reaching tentacles reminds me of an episode of Futurama, entitled The Beast
with a Billion Backs.
In this episode, a rift opens, connecting the main gamma universe to an alternate one,
inhabited by Yivo, a giant creature with a multitude of tentacles.
Yivo then used Fry to spread its tentacles across the universe, attaching to and influencing
the actions of every living being.
Yivo has been compared to other Lovecraftian dieties like Azathoth and Yog-Sothoth, but
I think the tentacle aspect would make Nyogtha a more apt comparison.
The problem is, while Yivo from Futurama was just looking for companionship, and was relatively
benevolent, Nyogtha would likely only be looking out for itself.
If it managed to get its hands, or rather, tentacles, on the people of Earth, we would
likely be in for a good deal of pain and suffering.
Luckily, Nyogtha doesn't have quite the same power as some of the other Great Old
Ones we've talked about.
It's believed by some that the trip to Earth weakened Nyogtha, and it had to seek help
from the Elder Things to regain strength.
They helped, hoping to control it, but when it became clear that Nyogtha didn't intend
to obey, they locked it up underground in New Zealand, and threw away the key.
This leads many to see Nyogtha as among the least powerful of the Great Old Ones, since
what power it does have is seriously limited.
However, it's possible that Nyogtha would only have to control a select few people in
order to have secondary control of many more.
We've seen in recent years the power a charismatic leader can have over their followers.
Mormonism, Scientology, even modern political groups have convinced people en masse to act
against their own interests, by convincing them that the organization had their best
interests at heart.
Nyogtha would attempt to take control of someone with a huge number of loyal followers, like
Donald Trump or even the ridiculously popular K-pop group BTS.
A few words of support from them would have their followers clamouring to join the ranks
of Nyogtha's legion.
Fortunately, there would be a way to fight back.
Basically the one thing writing on Nyogtha is explicit about is the summoning and banishing
of the Great Old One.
If people were to say the correct words to expel the beast from Earth, this calamity
could be avoided.
However, this would require people to learn that Nyogtha was real, and it might be difficult
to convince the populace of the existence of this slimy underground puppetmaster.
Of course, this is not a new idea.
For years, conspiracy theorists have claimed that the rich and powerful are part of some
outside group trying to manipulate society to meet their own goals.
Some claim this to be the Illuminati, others have and continue to blame Jewish people for
whatever reason.
Still others believe that they aren't people at all, but rather a shapeshifting race of
lizard people in the midst of infiltrating society.
However, considering most people don't believe in these theories, correctly in my humble
opinion, it might be difficult to convince them that this was the case.
On the bright side, that may not be necessary.
Since the writing is rather limited and vague, it's hard to say for sure how many people
would be required to perform the incantation, or how long its range would be.
It could be that one person saying it would remove the presence of Nyogtha worldwide,
or it could require several people to separate it from a single host.
However, it's likely that just a few believers, in the right place at the right time, would
be able to banish Nyogtha from its hosts, who could then profess the truth to the world.
This would then allow everyone around the world to chant the incantation, which would
likely remove the presence of Nyogtha from the Earth, at least for a time.
This might have long-lasting consequences.
In order to prevent future attacks from Nyogtha, we would want to make sure the rites continued
to be said, so that it wouldn't have a chance to infect any more of the population.
It might even become something spoken routinely, perhaps being said alongside the national
anthem before a football game, or even before meals, alongside or in the place of saying
grace.
Meet up with a group of friends?
Better banish Nyogtha, just to be safe.
Becky HAS been acting pretty strangely…
And now we return to our question: What if Nyogtha was Real?
Well fortunately, it's likely that it wouldn't be too powerful, having been trapped beneath
the Earth.
If, however, it managed to ensnare a few charismatic leaders, we could have millions of people
willingly but unknowingly joining the cult of Nyogtha.
On the bright side, it's likely that this could be stopped by using the incantation
to banish the Great Old One, which could then become an effective preventative measure to
keep the creature at bay.
It might be an uncertain time for a while, but eventually, the world would probably go
back to normal.
It wouldn't be ideal, but it would be a heck of a lot better than Cthulhu.

President Donald Trump has announced that he will pardon the well-known conservative commentator Dinesh D'Souza.
What did Dinesh D'Souza do? What was his crime?.
D'Souza was convicted of making an illegal campaign contribution.
BBC provided further details, reporting that D'Souza "was convicted of making an illegal campaign contribution of $20,000…in 2014 to a New York politician.
D'Souza was sentenced to five years of probation for violating federal campaign law." According to the FBI press release in the case, D'Souza's defense revolved around a claim of selective prosecution, which might have found empathy with Trump, who has been accusing the FBI of unfairly targeting his own campaign.
Who was the candidate? The FBI press release announcing D'Souza's sentencing says the contribution was made to the Senate campaign of Wendy Long:.
In 2012, the Election Act limited campaign contributions to $5,000 from any individual to any one candidate.
In March 2012, D'SOUZA contributed $10,000 to the Senate campaign of Wendy Long on behalf of himself and his wife, agreeing in writing to attribute that contribution as $5,000 from his wife and $5,000 from him.
In August 2012, D'SOUZA directed other individuals with whom he was associated, namely his assistant and a woman with whom D'SOUZA was romantically involved (the "Straw Donors"), to make contributions to Wendy Long's campaign for the United States Senate (the 'Long Campaign') on behalf of themselves and their spouses that totaled $20,000 with the promise that he would reimburse them for the contributions.
Later that same day or the next day, D'SOUZA, as promised, reimbursed the Straw Donors $10,000 each in cash for the contributions.
When confronted by Ms.
Long, D'SOUZA initially misled the candidate before admitting what he had done.
The press release continues: "During the plea proceeding, D'SOUZA admitted before the Court that he caused two close associates to contribute $10,000 each to the Long Campaign with the understanding that he would reimburse them for their contributions and that he did reimburse them.
D'SOUZA also admitted that he knew that what he was doing was wrong and something the law forbids.".

Trump Said D'Souza Was 'Treated Very Unfairly'.
Trump made the pardon announcement on Twitter on May 31, 2018, writing, "Will be giving a Full Pardon to Dinesh D'Souza today.
He was treated very unfairly by our government!" He did not provide further explanation, but the president has seemed to have a penchant for using his pardoning power to help those he thinks were targeted for political beliefs, as he previously pardoned controversial Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio.
D'Souza Was Prosecuted by Trump Foe Preet Bharara.
The 2014 press release by the FBI reveals that D'Souza was prosecuted by Preet Bharara, then the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and now a frequent Trump critic.
D'Souza "pled guilty to violating the federal campaign election law by making illegal contributions to a United States Senate campaign in the names of others," says the FBI release.
"Dinesh D'Souza attempted to illegally contribute over $10,000 to a Senate campaign, wilfully undermining the integrity of the campaign finance process.
Like many others before him, of all political stripes, he has had to answer for this crime – here with a felony conviction," Bharara was quoted as saying in the FBI release.
The Sentence Included Community Service.
In addition to the probationary term "with confinement to a community center, Judge Berman sentenced D'Souza, 53, of San Diego, California, to a mandatory eight-hour day of community service every week of his five-year term of probation, weekly counseling sessions, and ordered him to pay a $30,000 fine, as well as a $100 special assessment," the FBI press release reads.
Judge Berman previously "denied D'SOUZA's pretrial motion to dismiss the indictment for selective prosecution, ruling that there was 'no evidence' to support D'SOUZA's allegation.
In sentencing D'SOUZA, Judge Berman referred to his prior ruling and remarked that 'the defendant's claim of selective prosecution, legally speaking, is 'all hat, no cattle,'" the release says.
The president also recently granted a posthumous pardon that seemed designed to correct a historic racial injustice.
He pardoned boxing great Jack Johnson, who was convicted due to an interracial relationship.
A 2015 article in Vanity Fair described D'Souza as "political pundit, writer, documentary-film maker, and onetime wunderkind of the intellectual elite." D'Souza and Fox host Laura Ingraham were once engaged, but they never married.
He also dated Ann Coulter.

My favorite one was the second one feauring the white bat.
Despite being a pet detective he was terrified of bats.
I'm not really surprised though, bats normally have a bad reputation as bloodsucking vampires.
Flying rats with wings carrying rabies as they fly.
Ok what is the point of any of this you might be asking.
One of the cutest Pokemon introduced in Generation 5 were Woobat and Swoobat.
I just thought that they were fuzzy rip-offs of Zubat, but nah!
Its kinda original.
That being said I trained one and honestly speaking its a crappy Pokemon, but that's
really the point of this video!

Yeah, well yes there are!
Meet the Honduran white bat the animal that Woobat appears to be based primarily on.
Honduran White Bats huh!
They live in Central America in dense thickets of the rainforests or abandoned banana groves.
Typical of bats they are also known to roost inside abandoned buildings and hollow trees
on occasion.
They feed mostly on fruit.
Ah...look at how tiny it is.
Like Woobat, Honduran white bats are tiny for bats, they can easily fit in the palm
of your hand.
Just like Woobat, they have a fluffy white coat.
Their ears, face, nose and parts of their legs and wings are bright orange.
Almost no hair grows on their black wings.
Since their nose protrudes from their face in a triangular shape, scientists call members
of their family "leaf-nosed bats."
Crazy how they match up like this.
Now what about Swoobat!
It doesn't look like a Honduran White Bat to me.
Maybe that's because Swoobat is based on the Flying Fox, which is also a tropical bat.
Dog do you see the size of this thing.
They are known to feast only on nectar, blossoms, pollen, and fruit.
Unlike most bats, the Flying Fox doesn't possess echolocation.
Instead, the smell and eyesight are very well-developed in flying foxes.
That's probably why we can see Swoobat's eyes.
I see how Game Freak planned it!
Honduran white bats are one of the smallest bats while the Flying Fox is one of the largest.
Flying Foxes form large flocks and they may circle a fruit tree before landing, and usually
land on the tips of branches in an upright position, then fall into a head-down position
from which they feed.
Come on bro are you trying to be a vampire.
Flying Foxes eat loudly huh?
Kinda like how Swoobat emits sound waves of various frequencies from its nose powerful
enough to destroy rocks.

First look , I call this the urban look, because it's just vibrant & transportive
I begin the outfit with this exotic printed revere collar – It's the summer so I decided to treat myself with something playful
The shirt was 50 dollars from Topman
Inside I worn my good old white tee to give it a sharp look but still keep it simple. The tee was 25$ from Jcrew
An urban summer look would never be the same without a good pair of jeans
so I mix it my favorite frayed hem jeans from Urban outfitters. I believe they were 60 bucks
To upgrade, I was wearing my very first watch which I bought for myself when I got my first job ever
The all-black Gshock monster - and I believe it was around the 120 dollars at that point
The look was pretty much complex in colors
so I tried to balance it with a touch of black for my new classic Rayban Wayfarer. It was $150
And finally I completed the look with a pair of Doc Martens that leaves a powerful impression.
I call this the bowling look because it reminds me of the Mr.Porter and Prada collaboration, which I think is extremely inspiring
I started styling with a vintage graphic tee that I found in a nearby store and it was only 10$
I blended the tee with the checked trousers, it was actually a gift from Topman to me, I think it was around 80 dollars
To spice things up
I put on a 40$ silverware belt from Weekday and pair of retro sunglasses from
Urban Outfitters that looks exactly like the ones from Tom Ford, but cost only 18$
I don't want to go way to much so decided complete the look with another pair of classic Doc Martens that cost me the same

I'll start off with my books that I've loved this month
well actually it's only one book this month because again I've had a slow one
because I've been revising a lot more now which is good but it means that I've
had less time to do things that I actually want to do but yeah this book
that I have here is called emergency contact by Mary HK Choi I mentioned this
in my book haul so yeah this book is about penny and Sam and they're both going
through a really tough time in their lives right now and they meet and
exchange numbers and become each other's emergency contact so they talk to each
other all the time I mean you can probably guess where it leads to such an
easy read that just made me continuously want to read more ther's a link in the
description if you want to go and check it out lastly an entertainment is
YouTube so anything that I've been loving on YouTube this month I've
actually discovered this new girl well I didn't discover her but I've just found
her video this is what I mean her name is Eve Cornwell me check yeah her
name's Eve Cornwell and she's a university student at Bristol University
in England she's hilarious so funny and I love her
style of videos I actually think she's quite similar to the type of videos that
I make which is probably why I like her because we got you know things in common
I've kind of been watched all of her videos Eve love her go check her out

and the first one is called afraid by Mimi
now Mimi's a youtuber that I've been watching for a really long time
well i say a really long time but really like a year and a half or something like
that two years I love her videos as well she's really cute I love her style

absolutely adore but my favorite one is called afraid let me play you a little bit
okay yeah so as you can tell it's a really chilled out song I've been
listening to that song on repeat since it came out love Mimi
my next favorite song is called she changes the weather by Swim Deep this song
I have loved since like when I was in year 11 I first heard it when I was
going to the Reading Festival I was listening to all the artists that were
going to see if I like their music and I found this song and it is just insane
you'll get what I mean when you hear the song
again pretty chilled out but like in a really inspiring way I don't know and
then my last favorite song is by Haim which is a very well known band so yeah
the song that I'm talking about is falling I think this is one of their
most popular songs
okay I can't listen to the whole song otherwise this will be a very long video
oh my god love that song as you could tell I love to dance to it
not very well but I do dance to it especially in the car
it's actually quite embarrassing in the car because people just look at me and
stare and are like what the hell is she doing but I kind of don't care at the same time
fight me
next up is my food favorite
and i've only got one this month it's not even food it's a drink but yeah I've been
super super obsessed with iced coffees I've never even liked coffee before but
I just thought I'm gonna try it because I'm revising so much now so I need
caffeine because I'm not getting enough sleep for sure
so yeah I literally just grind some coffee in the Whizzer put it in the
little pumpy thing then I just add some ice some dairy free milk shove that in
give it a stir and you're ready to go super good coffee love it
my last category is fashion favorites this month
and i'm actually wearing my fashion favorite this time it is this cute little
pep, peplum? no off the shoulder top from Urban Outfitters I got this last year actually
but I'm definitely sure they'll have something like this Urban Outfitters
ASOS or Topsop it's just a really cute color and I think it kind of makes
me look a bit more tanned this kind of mustard yellow color which is perfect
because I'm just super super pale so my last favorite is actually my nail polish
color or colors basically they look like ice cream colors to me but all of the
colors together just look for a cute and I've had lots of compliments actually on
them a cafe that I work at a lot of the mums like oh I love your nails my
daughter would absolutely love them and stuff like that which is really sweet
and the nail polishes that I used were all Barry M apart from this Ciaté
pink one Barry M is just great and they always have some type of deal on but
that is my last favorite for the month and I hope you enjoyed this video maybe

Fashion For 2018
Sun damaged skin with resulting in freckles and dark spots can appear at any age.
This includes situations such as younger people who've experience a lot of sun exposure
or indoor tanning, as well as older people with accumulated sun damage which becomes
more visible in later years.
Treating sun damaged skin in the past involved aggressive treatments accompanied by long
downtime.
Modern technologies allow me to help my patients get comparable results, but without the prolonged
healing process.
I'm Dr Amiya Prasad.
I'm a Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeon and Fellowship Trained Oculofacial Plastic & Reconstructive
Surgeon.
I've been in practice in Manhattan and Long Island for over 20 years.
I have been treating sun damaged skin since I started my practice.
I started first using deep chemical peels and fully ablative CO2 laser.
As medical technology evolved, I adapted the use of less aggressive fractional lasers such
as CO2 and Erbium lasers.
In addition, I routinely use nonablative lasers which leave the top layers of skin intact
resulting in tupically no downtime.
I also synergistically use regenerative medicine technology like PRP or platelet-rich plasma
to further improve the skin at the same time.
Types of sun damaged skin ranges from different concentrations of melanin and pigment.
Light to dark discolorations that manifest as small spots are commonly described as freckles
or solar dyschromias.
Larger, more defined spots are commonly described as dark spots or brown spots, which we call
in our field solar lentigos.
These freckles and brown spots occur between the top and bottom layer of the skin, called
the dermal-epidermal junction.
To treat dark spots and freckles in the past involved removing, or ablating the top layer
skin.
This was first done with chemical peels, also known as TCA peels, which stands for trichloroacetic
acid, which required significant recovery for the top layer of skin to regenerate.
Chemical peels also tended to treat unaffected areas of the face, so treatment wasn't localized
to small areas.
This meant that more surface area of the face was involved in the healing process.
While TCA peels are effective, they did require patients to take time off work while their
facial skin was still peeling for several days after treatment.
Skin treatment evolved into the first fully ablative CO2 lasers in the mid 1990s.
CO2 lasers also removed the top layer of skin, and required significant downtime.
Lasers were also effective but patients were exposed to a lot of heat energy, and doctors
and practitioners had to manage the effects of high levels of heat on the skin.
Fully ablative CO2 lasers also involved removal of the top layer of skin, with heating of
the lower layer of the skin, the dermis.
A lot of healing time was needed.
Patients could be out for weeks while waiting for a skin layers to come back and cover up
the skin which was intensely red.
The laser technology I use in my practice every to treat solar dyschromias and lentigos
are treated without the need for prolonged downtime.
I discuss with my patients during consultation what the specific aspects of the skin my patients
want to see improve.
I also discuss the amount of recovery needed for the issues they are concerned about.
For example, if they want to address fine lines, an option we can use are fractional
lasers.
There is a dual benefit to fractional lasers.
One is the removal of irregular top layers of skin which is the epidermis and the other
is energy delivery for collagen remodeling in the lower layer of the skin, the dermis.
Unlike fully ablative laser treatment, fractional lasers allow surface areas to be left intact
which results in faster healing.
If the main concern is about dark spots and freckles, I usually use a Q Switch laser.
The laser can go through the top layer of skin leaving it intact while breaking up the
pigment caused by sun damage.
The approach to treatment is typically to have patients come in monthly so the pigmentation
progressively diminished without any disruption in the patient's schedule.
I explain to my patients that the pigmentation caused by the sun is comparable to a tattoo
even though a tattoo is placed in the deeper part of the skin.
The laser energy is absorbed by the pigment and broken up into smaller particles which
are metabolized by the body.
Like all laser treatments, skin type and skin color are very important factors in the type
of laser used and the energy settings.
Generally speaking, lighter skin can take a higher energy setting, while darker skin
needs a lower setting.
As I stated earlier, I routinely employ the use of regenerative medicine technology such
as platelet rich plasma and hyaluronic acid to help the skin quality.
It's actually a routine for us to perform Q switch laser treatment, which we refer to
as laser toning with PRP and hyaluronic acid delivered to the dermis called skin boosting.
In fact, PRP has been documented in the medical literature to be beneficial in treating hyperpigmentation
which further makes this combination an effective strategy.
Treating pigmentation and other skin issues caused by sun damage no longer requires the
long downtime of chemical peels and aggressive lasers.
As mentioned earlier, since the top layer of skin is intact with the Q Switch laser,
healing time is minimal to none even when combined with skin boosting.
This means your skin quality and areas of pigmentation can be treated conveniently without
interruption in your daily routine.
I recommend using other products such as sunblock to protect the skin from sun exposure which
can cause more brown discolorations to appear.

Coheed and Cambria have returned today with their first single in three years, "Dark Sentencer", presumably off their forthcoming album arriving later this year through Roadrunner Records.
The band dropped the 10-minute long track this morning via YouTube, which is a welcoming return to form after their departure on 2015's The Color Before the Sun.
"The Dark Sentencer", which is an anthem rager, returns to the sci-fi theatrical concept that made them famous.

I thought this idea was crazy to start with.
We were a little nervous. Had to take things apart a few times and rebuild them.
10 Weeks is a really short period,
going from a concept then design and then build the whole thing.
We've always done design-build-test, project based things in this course, and that's always
been a lot of fun.
We've never done something quite this scale before.
We want to make sure that when our students come in, they have a context for the engineering
that they're going to be doing.
You know, if they're going to be explaining the capacity of a 2x4 piece of lumber, we
want them to actually cut a 2x4.
I'm a freshman, civil engineering at Oregon Tech.
My mom used to say that I was going to be an engineer because I'd play with legos and
design weird things with them.
They're learning how to do project management through this and that's not something you
really learn until you actually do.
It's a new experience for me.
I'm a freshman, and building a tiny house at my level...
It's incredible.
I initially chose engineering because it's kind of close to what my family has done.
They were in the construction business, and I wanted to take it further.
Engineering, here, I thought was the better choice because we are a hands-on school.
Our professors really get the chance to know us because our classes are super, super small.
I come from industry, the other faculty members have an academic and industry experience as
well.
So, between the three of us we bring a wide range of experience to try to help the students
to know what it's really going to be like when they're out in the field.
The faculty just kind of guide us, if we have a terrible idea they'll be like "Oh, that's
a bad idea" but beyond that, it's all our decisions.
If there are any decisions to be made, we make them as a class, together.
It's really what we do here at Oregon Tech, hand-son and so this has been the ultimate,
hands-on learning experience.
They've learned through trial and error, some failure.
So far, we've had to come up with lots of plans, and change the plans lots of times.
It's pretty daunting, but a lot of fun.
The look on their face when you put a nailgun in a student's hand, and they've never experienced
that kind of power tool before.
Parents, they hear about and they want to join the class.
The impact of something like this on student is fantastic.
It really gives a sense of working in a team, and I feel like this is what that project
is all about.There's something really profound when you bring people with a diverse set of
skills together.
You get this opportunity to work together, towards a common goal.
And all of a sudden, all your creativity and excitement gets channeled into something that's
better than it possibly could have been with just one of us, alone.

How many words do we really need to know?
This is a very common question,
a question I've been asked many times.
It's a common source of frustration among language learners
I need more vocabulary, I don't know enough words
is what people say all the time.
According to Google,
there are over a million words in the English language
The Second Edition of the 20-volume Oxford Dictionary contains entries for
a little over 170,000 words.
How many English words do we need to know
How many words do we need to know?
there are 3 answers to that question,
there are 3 numbers:
The first number is about
being able to speak and express our every thought.
The second number is about
being able to understand other people in a face-to-face conversation.
The third number is about
watching movies, TV, passing a language test and everything else.
It's basically the size of your Active vs Passive vocabulary.
Let us look at each of these 3 numbers.
How many words do we need in order to speak fluently?
The answer to that question is in the most important piece of advice
I give every language learner:
use monolingual learner's dictionaries
monolingual learner's dictionaries use a limited list of common words
for writing simple definitions of every word in the dictionary.
The list is called "defining vocabulary"
according to Wikipedia,
in 1978 Longman was one of the first modern dictionaries to use defining vocabulary,
"and since then defining vocabularies have become a standard component of
monolingual learner's dictionaries for English and for other languages."
How many words are on the defining vocabulary list?
Longman uses defining vocabulary of just 2,000 words in its definitions
Macmillan writes the definitions using a defining vocabulary of 2,500 words
Oxford uses around 3,000 words
Here is your answer to the question of Speaking:
You need between 2,000 and 3,000 words in order to speak well.
With about 2,500 words you can express ANY idea
and make a sentence on ANY topic
from literature to business,
from philosophy to mathematics,
from sports to movies,
every conceivable topic
Granted, not in the most eloquent of ways,
but still,
you will be able to get your message across.
Between 2,000 and 3,000 words
Let's meet in the middle: 2,500 words for Speaking
How about listening comprehension?
How many words do we need in order to understand what
others are telling us in a typical face-to-face conversation
it depends
but in most cases
2,000 to 3,000 words should do
for two reasons:
Firstly, in a face-to-face conversation
native speakers are kind enough to adjust their level,
cutting down on the slang and focusing on more common words
The second reason you could get by with even 2,000 words
in a face-to-face conversation is that
you can Clarify and Confirm when you don't understand.
In a face-to-face conversation you could ask:
These are the few questions every language learner must learn first.
There is nothing wrong with not being able to hear or understand what other people say,
but there is plenty wrong not being able to ask, confirm and clarify.
How about language tests?
The answer to that question is once again in my favorite English learner's dictionaries
According to Macmillan dictionary
90% of the time, native speakers of English use just 7,500 words in speech and writing
Oxford dictionary gives a similar number:
7000 words account for 90% of the language
2,000 vs 7,000 is a considerable difference.
It's Active vs Passive vocabulary:
Active is vocabulary we use with great ease, on a daily basis.
Passive is vocabulary we understand when we hear or read
but don't use daily.
Let's recap:
2,000 to 3,000 words for speaking
That's active vocabulary
2,000 to 3,000 words for listening in a typical face-to-face conversation
That's active and passive vocabulary
7,000 words for language tests as well as movies, newspapers and news on TV
passive and active vocabulary
And the good news is that most language learners already know 2000 words
The bad news is that most language learners don't know
how to use them quickly and in grammatically correct sentences.
Most people can't remember the words they know
Remember quickly and use accurately
Because most language learners don't know how to learn vocabulary
